    • @RowanvanBeckhoven
      @RowanvanBeckhoven  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say that you defintely don't need anything like Omnisphere to start out with. I mainly use it for organic and athmospheric sounds. But those sounds are rarely the main sound of a track. You could also use samples for those kind of sounds.

      @@imadsting2467 Sytrus and 3xosc are both good plugins, and you can make alot of sounds with them, but imo, sytrus has more options like oscillator harmonic editing and fm modulation which makes it better for more complex sounds, like bass house/dubstep wub wubs, and 3xosc better for simple leads/basses/plucks.

    im wondering how the base follows the notes in the chord progresion? my attempt sounds so out of tune during the pad progression

    • @RowanvanBeckhoven
      @RowanvanBeckhoven  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The basic rule is to follow the root note of a chord. For example, if your chord is a G (major/minor) chord, your bassline plays a g. This makes your bassline sound harmonic. If you deviate from this, it could sound 'off', but that could also be a good thing, depending how you use it.

    • @zygican
      @zygican 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RowanvanBeckhoven Yeah I keep it at the root note but I can't make it seem to sound well when the pad's chord go lower for example, then the base will just sound blurry and kinda disappear. Am I meant to just leave the bass in the same note all the time and not follow the chord?

    • @RowanvanBeckhoven
      @RowanvanBeckhoven  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zygican Definitely not. You should follow the chord progression. However if you feel like the bass does sound well anymore if you move it lower, you can always move that note an octave up. Not the entire bass section, but just from where the notes start to sound 'too low'.

    How do you know which volumes to put the bass or the kick etc.? As in the mixing process

    • @RowanvanBeckhoven
      @RowanvanBeckhoven  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hagen Weidmann It’s mostly a matter of just listening. There are some guidelines to it, like ‘bass should be 3-5dB less than kick’ etc.. but it all boils down to what you want your mix to sound like.
      A good way to practice this would be using reference tracks. Try to get the same balance between kick, bass and other elements of the track. You could even use mix busses to limit yourself to just mixing instrument groups, instead of tweaking 40+ instruments

    - 05:41 still confuses me. A lot of work goes into shaping the bass on those instruments, I see other musicians do that as well, so I'll have to spend time learning this part.
