Hi, glad you found the videos helpful. More trance related tutorials are planned. It sounds to me like you're making some classic mistakes here. As a producer you're always in a race against time in order to complete a track. You need to be able to get things down quickly, before ear fatigue sets in. At that point, you're going to be so sick and tired of listening to the track that chances are slim you'll ever finish it. There are ways to help prevent this, and some workflows work better than others. If you need help with your tracks, and general advice etc then I recommend using my feedback service. Thanks! Glad you liked it! I always try to make my tutorial videos clean and simple. My own workflow is often quite chaotic though, as you can see in this video where I recreated a James Dymond track: th-cam.com/video/t5FeKwW1yW4/w-d-xo.html I really think it would have helped a lot if FL Studio had a true folder track architecture in the playlist, like other daws have. :)
@@FireWalkMusic a new update has nested automation under the appropriate channel now thankfully. So that would clean an arrangement window up quite a bit since a lot of clips are usually a ton of automation lol.. I choose bitwig personally because of the cleanness of the whole workflow but still dabble in FL because it's very quick to get ideas down.
@@Mrdjhappyman Indeed. It's a step in the right direction, but it's still just an automatic "group with above track" function. It's nothing like a true folder track architecture like in many other daws. The problem with "group with above" is that you can only group once. You have to choose between grouping either your automation with the correct track, or grouping all your elements together. You can't do both. For example, in Cubase I typically group all my percussion as one, all my leads as one and so on, and then the automation will still be linked with each respective track. The automatic nesting now kind of emulates that, but it comes at the expense of grouping similar elements together, so I hope they move to a true folder track architecture eventually. This will make organizing much better.

Thanks! Glad you liked the video :) I've been in love with trance music since I first heard it. It's something magical about those huge supersaw melodies and the deep basslines. :)
In other daws you would usually use send tracks for this. You can do it in FL too, but because the PDC system in FL Studio is flawed (they will attempt to fix it in FL20) I rarely use them. Especially when using submixes and such, you'll end up with several tracks not being delay compensated properly and everything will be out of sync. Patcher acheives the same thing as a send track, but without the PDC issues. Send tracks are a lot faster and more organized though. Patcher tend to be hidden away here and there, while send tracks are always visible and makes it easy to see what's going where. If they manage to fix it in FL20 I'll be using the send tracks again instead. :)
Hey, late 90s / early 2000's trance bass lines are very simple compared to today's bass lines, and they are also covered in this video. This video focuses on the sub bass in the bass line, which is the main foundation of the bass line. That's where the power is. There are three main underlying bass lines when it comes to all kinds of, and this video cover those three. They are the same both in uplifting trance and in psy trance. The difference is that in uplifting trance you also tend to have rolling mid bass lines with different and somewhat more complex patterns layered on top if the main sub bass, while in psy trance you just have one main bass. Back in the early 2000's trance music used the same basic sub bass lines as today, either the classic off beat bass, or a rolling bass line. It's the same basic technique as covered in this video. Back then there were no daws like today, so everything you hear in those old classics was most likely made on hardware, and then recorded. That means that everything was structured much simpler than what you'll find in today's music. It still sounded great though :)
I like these bassline :) alternative names for each bassline in order: 1) Off beat 2) Gallop 3) Full-on Anyway, thank you for side-chaining tips for mid bass. I never able to create a 'proper' trance track, i guess I have wrong hobby haha.
Thanks! Yes I know, trance is by far the most challenging genre to produce and get RIGHT in my book. I remember back in the late 90's / early 2000's when trance first emerged. I was still making music using trackers back than (this was before the DAW era) and I never managed to figure out how to make trance... Eventually I gave up on it. We didn't have youtube and tutorials back then.I think it took me several years to really feel comfortable with trance. During that time I watched everything that was available on the subject, reading books and so on. People who think that trance is an easy genre to produce really don't know what they are talking about. It might sound easy, but it's not. In fact, if it sounds easy, it was hard to make. :D
Nice and clear tutorials and helped with something I've massively overthought and that is processing but you've added a few layers to give it the dynamics and depth! Something I didn't do. Also that sub is real nice. I cant get mine like that haha!!
Great Vids! Thanks for your efforts :) Could you possibly give us a rundown of your favourite Keyboard Shortcuts? I know a few but a refresher would be good, Thanks again!
Hi, Fire Walk thank You for the tutorial. I really like your explanations on Trance BASSLINE it was very clear to understand. However Please make Future bass BASSLINE tutorial in future.Peace:)
Know I’m late but you can shorten wave forms visually on fl studio, I can on mine and it’s older 😂 on the screen before going to envelope settings use the parameters and you can tighten from there 👍
Yes, this has been possible for quite some time, but that's not the same thing. In this example the kick sample is being cut off with volume automation basically, so the transient and the bulk of the body of the kick is preserved until the very last moment, when it's cut off. Basically just the last bit of the tail is cut off when you do it this way. If you use the in and out knobs in the sampler itself, you change the entire sample, basically fading it out from from the very start, which will cause it to loose most of it's energy early on. By doing it this way instead, you preserve the power for as long as possible, while at the same time removing that last bit that's causing mud and overlap. :)
This is a pretty good tutorial. I do have one word of note, however. At 2:29, you call that pattern triplets. Triplets are actually when you divide a beat into THREE equally-sized notes. The pattern you have shown at that moment in the video is 3 sixteenth (16th) notes, with the first dropped out to allow for space for the kick. In FL, the default view in the Piano Roll is 16th notes (each beat is divided into FOUR equally sized notes). Mainstream Psy-Trance artists (like Vini Vici and Berg), often use Triplet grooves in their songs. Many people have become sick of this type of groove, as it has been overused to the point of exhaustion. 9 times out of 10, you will find 16th-note-based grooves in Dance Music, especially Trance
Thanks :) You're not the first one to notice that. I was so caught up with the exact thing you just said, regarding the standard trance triplet bassline, which was what I was referring to, not triplets in the true meaning of the word. I couldn't agree more. It's so overused that I would go as far as to say that it's almost ruining the entire genre. :\ When everyone starts doing the exact same thing, then everything will sound exactly the same. That's the exact opposite of what we need in order to drive the genre forward. Trance needs to evolve just like everything else. There's only a few producers who dare to do their own stuff. Like the thrill seakers for example. He's doing (and always have) his own thing. And it shows. You can immediately tell that a track was made by him. Which isn't the case for 99% of the trance released these days. Back in the early 2000 when trance was played on radio all over the world, every track was different. Everyone had their very own style. They even had their very own kick, their own hats and so on. It was one banger after the other. Today, everyone is just copying each other. Hell, people are even using the exact same presets and sample packs.... :\
Nice one! Firewalk I also remember the early 2000 and before! A golden age because the sound was fresh and a great formula and fusion of sounds. In my view most music evolves from what went before, when I listen back I hear lots of old acid house and piano house in the so called Trance tunes from that golden age. Like Moonman - Don't Be Afraid (1996?), the synth riff is a piano house style riff on a synth and it was great and still is :-). Also when I was clubbing (in London) back then lots of clubbers didn't really associate the music as anything other than dance/club music, my friends considered club/ dance music all the same, it was either "banging" or it wasn't. The genre's were more defined by the earlier 00's if I remember correctly. Superclubs like Gatecrasher had contributed to this along the way in the UK creating brands out of musical genre's. The triplet thing is fine it's just a bit more limiting I suppose than an old school off beat bass as the triplet is much more up front in the sound. Anyway thanks again for the tutorials Firewalk, and a trip down memory lane for me.
Great tutorial, could you please please make a tutorial on how to sidechain kick and bass perfectly using fruity limiter. I went ratio all the way and thres -26.0 I lost too much of my bass punchiness but this feel the best sidechain ratio.
Hi, FireWalk I am really loving these. I needed some refreshing on mixing and these cover exactly what I needed! I agree with you a visual representation of the sample in the envelope section would definitely help. I usually just use the fade out knob on the sampler just for the fact I can see and hear what I am doing (even though the envelope is the correct tool to use). I was wondering if you could do an in depth video on layering sounds. A lot of people have done it but they do it in such an odd manner and whatever they do comes out sounding terrible. In other words, it's fast with no care put into it and you make it brief but in depth.
John, Thanks! I'm glad to hear that you found the content helpful! I know exactly what you mean. There are SO many tutorials out there. Some of them are simply wrong, some are made in 5 minutes for the sole purpose of getting views, and others are just dragging out the time, talking about their cat and their life. A friend of mine who was starting out had real difficulties learning the relevant information, despite the huge amount of tutorials out there, for this very reason. This is in fact the very reason I started making these tutorials. I wanted to make videos that was as short as possible, straight to the point and at the same time containing all the relevant info. Covering not only how, but also a little bit of why you would do something. It's much easier to learn how to do something when you also have a basic idea of why you should do it. Your suggestion is an excellent one. I will make sure to put it high up on my "to do" list. :)
FireWalk you do an awesome job!let me tell you! Well I recently decided it was time for another jump in progress. after having actually spent money for classes that come out to be completely useless (masterclass with deadmau) as he didn't explain why or go in depth with mixing. I understand the know how but not why part considering that why compression has taken so long for me to get used to. Which I was afraid that would happen. Ill definitely be keeping an eye out. Thank for responding!
Thanks! :) Yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about. Music production is such a huge and confusing topic. Watch 5 tutorials about the same thing, and you get 5 different ways of doing it, and 5 different reasons why you need to do it that way. Where to begin? In many ways, it would be easier taking on rocket science.. :D
Hey, mixing and mastering starts at $35 depending on the amount of stems etc. Mastering is $15 per track. You can find all my gigs here: www.fiverr.com/firewalk
Great content, the part at 2:30 is not triplets tho, they are just 16th notes. For it to be a triplet it must be 3 notes against 2 in the meter. ie there must be 3 16th notes in what is 2 16th notes. I dig the effort you put in to the video, teaching is the best way to learn.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. :) Yes, I was referring to to the trance specific basslines. This varies from genre to genre. As kevin said, If you ask any trance producer to make a triplets bassline,, this is what they will come up with. Not triplets in the true meaning of the word music theory wice though, but a bassline consisting of three notes, and thereof the name "tripplet bassline". I realize it can be a bit misleading. For example, if you ask an orchestral music producer to make some tripplets then you'll get a very different result. So you're absolutely right in pointing this out! I should have made this clear in the video, but I guess it's a bit too late for that now. I can't even make an annotation to point it out, as youtube has removed them. :\ I'll try to keep this in mind in the future :)
You're welcome :) I do have a tutorial about tuning kicks to the key of the track. But I think most people tend to do it by ear. Most professionals I know of usually start by finding a kick and a sub that works well together, and then build upon that. :)
Thank you very much...4 help plz can you make a tutorial on "compressing" and "eq" different things like 808s, Growls, leads , Bass , Drums , Precusion, synths....
Gewd stuff Firewalk. Im new to Trance production and i see a lot of Info online and it really gives me a headache as to witch way to go production wise. For now i just have the "free" FL STUDIOS 12 SAMPLER. I dont kow if i should go all in and buy it...
Hey! Trance is arguably one of the most difficult genres to produce, despite what many seem to think. The production techniques are just insane. But if you keep at it and become really good at it, then just about everything else will seem like a walk in the park after that. :) So don't give up. It'll require a lot of trial and error. There's no quick solution when it comes to music production. It will probably take years of hard dedicated work. It will pay off in the end. I always recommend buying a legit copy. It's one the cheapest daws out there, and you get lifeteime free updates and awesome support on their official forums. Besides, you help support the development team, which means they will be able to hire more people, and be able to update and improve the software more rapidly, and that will benefit you too. :)
Yeah it is VERY difficult for me at least.LoL But you can create so many sounds its insane. For me Uplifting is the way i want to go production wise. Just the emotions it brings are beyond description. I told my self whene i started this Mission that it wasnt going to be completed Today not Tommorow not next Month maybe not even next Year... But one day. One day.One Day i am going to get a track completed, signed and released. P.s. i meant to say i have the Demo version FL Studios LoL. Thx for The support =)
this is sooo incredible. Love your work. the only thing i really don't understand is how to let a bassline sound in the front instead of the strings etc. is that easy to create ? thnx in advance
Thanks, glad you liked it. General rule of thumb, the dryer a sound is the more up front it will be. When you apply reverb and delay and such, it tends to push the sound to the back of a mix. Keeping the sounds at the center of the mix also helps.
Yes, this is actually on my list. Hopefully I'll get around to it soon. You can also use patcher to accomplish the same results. I usually prefer patcher, not because it's "easier" but because the PDC system in FL Studio is flawed when it comes to send tracks. In many cases you will end up with sync problems, depending on how you set up your routing, because the send tracks themselves are not delay compensated.
Unfortunately, yes. Should have caught it in the video editing. The video was originally twice as long, but I removed some parts to make it shorter and more to the point. Not sure if it's possible to edit it out now that it's uploaded :\

This is not psy trance, the last example is but 90% of the video is generic uplifting trance
@@FireWalkMusic yeah ahaha awesome im not the one asking but it was really usefull information so thanks a lot
THis guy is a trance guru!!!
Glad you liked the video :)
I like these bassline :) alternative names for each bassline in order:
1) Off beat
2) Gallop
3) Full-on
Anyway, thank you for side-chaining tips for mid bass.
Will help me make some trance stuff in future 😊🔥
really good tutorial and quality sound
Thanks :)
Great Vids! Thanks for your efforts :) Could you possibly give us a rundown of your favourite Keyboard Shortcuts? I know a few but a refresher would be good, Thanks again!
Sure, a lot of people has been asking about something like this lately. I'll definitely consider this for my next video. :)
I like the style of your vids man!
Thanks! Glad to hear it :)
I've learned quite a lot.. My next track will sound like a tripplet bass track.. Thanks for sharing my man ;-)
That's good to hear Jan! I'm looking forward to hearing it. I'm sure that if anyone can nail it on the first attempt, it will be you. :)
Very and very helpfull and powerfull video. Many thanks! Like!
Very Nice Mixing
Thanks, glad you liked the video :)
absolutely great
Glad you liked it :)
This sounds like he is teaching me how to service a starter.
I have another video on my other channel about how I rebuilt a 3S-GTE engine from scratch :D
very nice, you make trance bass like A.R.D.I Driffmon and artic moon very profesional sound good, Thanks man
Thanks! Glad you liked the video! :)
Great tutorial, thank you!
You're welcome :)
Hi, Fire Walk thank You for the tutorial.
I really like your explanations on Trance BASSLINE it was very clear to understand. However Please make Future bass BASSLINE tutorial in future.Peace:)
Glad you liked it, and thanks for your suggestion. I will put it on my list :)
Hi, great tutorial. Could you make a video on how to write and mix driving percussion for psytrance, or hard trance please?
I'm planning on making more trance oriented tutorials in the future :)
Very useful tutorial! Thanks for the tips! 😃
You should do a complete step by step guide =) Song from beginning to finnish! Take us trough the prosess =D
Hey, it's planned, but I can't say exactly when it will be done. :)
Great tutorial👍
Thanks :)
fl has come a long ways
It sure has :)
Havin the wave form of the kick in the backround of the envelope would be great
No
Great stuff 🤙
Thanks! :)
Exactly what i need
Glad you found it useful :)
Phenomenal video
Thanks, glad you liked it :)
Like a photographer style :3
:D
When everyone starts doing the exact same thing, then everything will sound exactly the same.
Anyway thanks again for the tutorials Firewalk, and a trip down memory lane for me.
super helpful!
Glad you liked it :)
finally something trance related
Hopefully I'll be able to make more trance related videos soon. :)
Anyone notice the similarities to the “how it’s made” narrator. I love that show.
:D
lol I love “how it’s made”, too! The voice is really alike! XD
nice track man
Thanks :)
Thanks a lot! Useful!
You're welcome :)
Thanks Man! 👍🏻
You're welcome :)
God bless man, and nice logo.
Thanks! :)
You are the best🙂
Thanks, glad you found it useful :)
Great tutorial, could you please please make a tutorial on how to sidechain kick and bass perfectly using fruity limiter. I went ratio all the way and thres -26.0 I lost too much of my bass punchiness but this feel the best sidechain ratio.
Some times it helps to try out different triggers (kicks) for the sidechain as well
Hi, FireWalk I am really loving these.
FireWalk
you do an awesome job!let me tell you!
Thank you!
You're welcome :)
You make it seam easy.. Thanks! :D
You're welcome :)
Thank u, brother
You're welcome :)
can you make a uplifting trance song structure tutorial please.
It's on my list :)
this is helpfull... thank you... :)
Thanks, glad you liked it! :)
FireWalk :)
Awesome! Thanks! :)
You're welcome :)
Smart video tnx!
Glad you liked it :)
@@FireWalkMusic how much for mixing tracks?i have alot of tracks that need some good mix?
Hey, mixing and mastering starts at $35 depending on the amount of stems etc.
Mastering is $15 per track. You can find all my gigs here: www.fiverr.com/firewalk
Can you make acid techno bassline & kick/bassdrum tutorial?
thank you so much man
You're welcome. Glad you liked it! :)
Agreed! I think he was talking trance genre terminology regarding the triplets though. Every trance producer calls this kind of bass line triplets. :)
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. :)
Yes, I was referring to to the trance specific basslines.
I'll try to keep this in mind in the future :)
Thank you so much sir
You're welcome :)
Sir , can you show to us how to make the "slyder-score" bass line please? thanks!!!
Thanks ! :)
You're welcome :)
very helpful
Glad you liked it :)
Gold tutorial
Thank you for this awesome tutorial. Only one thing , why nobody ever talks about the kick and sub must be in the same key ?
You're welcome :) I do have a tutorial about tuning kicks to the key of the track. But I think most people tend to do it by ear. Most professionals I know of usually start by finding a kick and a sub that works well together, and then build upon that. :)
Super 👍
Thank you very much...4 help
plz can you make a tutorial on "compressing" and "eq" different things like 808s, Growls, leads , Bass , Drums , Precusion, synths....
I already have videos on how to EQ and how to layer leads, and I will be making a mixing tutorial about compression soon. :)
Keeping the sounds at the center of the mix also helps.
thank you
any chance of your video" how to mix " mixing( the follow on video from how to mix gain staging)
I'm looking forward to it :)
+TheRahsoft you're welcome. Yes, I will finish it shortly :)
Could you do a tutorial on delay and reverb sends? I would love to know how to properly send audio to return tracks.
FireWalk Thank you for sharing you knowledge. The least I can do is to sub 😊
Thanks! Much appreciated :)
keep up thank you
Thanks, I will
sir, please upload vocal mixing tutorials..Thanks
Hey, that is already on my to do list, so I will definitely get around to making a tutorial about that eventually :)
thanks ,,sir
hey man can you show us the mixdown of the sub bass and the sound design of the preset ?
Hey, I will definitely make more tutorials about trance bass and such
Super thanks
You're welcome :)
Did you just call 3 sixteenth notes ‘triplets’?
Unfortunately, yes. Should have caught it in the video editing. The video was originally twice as long, but I removed some parts to make it shorter and more to the point. Not sure if it's possible to edit it out now that it's uploaded :\
@@FireWalkMusic Alright, no problem! It was still a great tutorial, I may just be too whiney, so don't worryy lol
triplets is what some people call 3 x 16th notes. its hardly relevant
