I got this game for the GameCube in 2004, when I was eight. It was my first FPS game, and I ended up sneaking downstairs every night to play it! I loved it, the art style was very appealing and something about the sound effects and rumble made the game feel very alive. Great review!
I'm glad you enjoyed the review! I 100% agree that there should always be bots! I've had Urban Chaos on my radar for a bit. I'll add it to the recommendation list.
First game I bought for my og Xbox 4 years ago, along side splinter cell 1 and Pandora. Still my favourite console among my vast collection to this day.
I played this for the first time a few years back and it was still really good fun. Probably leaned a bit too heavy on it's unique style, but I enjoyed the experience and was really bummed when I saw the remake had done away with the aesthetic that made the original stand out. I wish that it had gotten a sequel because ending on that cliffhanger was so disappointing, though at least you can read the comics if you want to know where the story goes; unlike other games that end with a sequel hook that will never be fulfilled. Still a really good game and worth playing even today.
Belgium mentionned yeah We have an immense tradition of comics, starting with Tintin. From the same creator of XII, Thorgal and Largo Winch are also great comics.
I love the Tintin comics. Shame we didn't get a sequel to the animated movie. The Tintin 1990s animated show was pretty cool too. We finally got legit English translations for XIII and I've read through the original comics. Pretty good, shame we didn't get a sequel to the video game.
I was at the release party in Rotterdam (Netherlands) of this game, where a few developers where there, and they realy had passion for this game, Lots of press had more interest in the food and booz then what they had to say, and that was a shame. I realy enjoyed playing this title.
@@campxbox I use to watch that game demo all day on crimson skies or project Gotham 2 voodoo Vince n grabbed by ghoulies but now we adults with money no more begging or worriing about a ham telling yo parents full detail
Another solid terrific retro review! This is a under-rated gem, which I have with the strategy guide in my collection. The remaster was quite poor initially but since they radically re-did it, it's a good experience today worth playing on modern consoles.
The remaster was definitely improved from the original 2020 butchered release. Unfortunately, they did not fix the terrible cutscenes, especially the lame intro where a random FBI Agent watches the excellent 2003 intro on a projector screen. I don't think the remaster sold well, so we likely won't be getting a sequel. But hey, you can read the comics in English.
Also shout out to "the Hunt" where you basically shoot at a "death NPC" that runs on a track around the map and you get points by shooting at him. But, the more you shoot at him the smaller he gets and the faster he runs on his route. Also if he touches you, you die. Spent a lot of times with the cousins on that game mood!
Wow!! Sad I missed out on this one as a kid, used to see it in stores, but for some reason the whole comic book style never caught my attention. But this looks awesome! May have to pick it up and give it a try. Great video.
Got XIII for Christmas in 2003 and had an absolute BLAST with the game. It had somewhat of an active online presence when it released and have some good memories with the death matches. I replayed it last year via that remake that got a touch-up after it got demolished with reviews and it still wasn’t that good. I still have my original on Xbox that I want to play again with Insignia and I also have it on GOG.
I just picked this up for the switch, and was going to pick it up for the OG Xbox, remember it was fun playing it with my neighbor back when it was released.
Awesome review! This game will always stick with me. Wish more gamers knew about it or get a chance to play it. It may just be me, but I found the gameplay extremely satisfying because it felt different. The violence has an "umf" and actually makes you feel something. I catch myself being snobby about graphic styles in popular games like Borderlands and saying, "But yo, did you even play XIII?".
its sutcha crime that we never got the sequel and its an even bigger crime that the remaster was a steaming pile. what a masterpiece and its also hard af just like og far cry. it also has great voice acting.
Probably my go to recommendation for a rock solid 7/10 action game - as a sincere compliment of the game’s strengths. The controller aim assist curve just hit a very sweet and enjoyable spot. It is a bit hard to track, but if I’m not mistaken this was also Ubisoft Paris first release - that’s pretty good for an inexperienced team with a smaller budget.
I played and finished it on PC and it was a damn good game with a good story and a good german voice over. Still today a good and forgotten title. I own also the Gamecube Version of the Game which is graphical impressive :D
played the Gamecube version a few years ago and loved the game, now replaying the original Xbox version and wow that 60fps is a night and day difference.
First M rated game I bought for my PS2! Spent a lot of time with bot multilayer and replaying the story. Also its a stunning game, even today. I remember thinking "wow I feel like I'm playing a comic book!" style and art direction will always overtake visual fidelity over time.
Saw a big retro gaming channel cover this. I'm no comic reader so the reputation of the original book was totally lost on me. Its really interesting seeing such huge names attached to this game. It also came out when I was a kid and this looks quite adult it has to be said. Today however, i am in my late 20s and have become more interested in noir and spy films, and now that i know it's a faithful adaptation of a comic, thr art style suddenly makes so much more sense! As such, I find myself feeling respect for it. Ive also been playing Forgive Me Father 2 which also has the cel shaded comic visuals so im more open minded to the style now
I won't say XIII is one of my favorite 6th gen FPS games, but I do love the cell shaded art style for the game. Wish Monolith's Shogo Mobile Armor Division had an anime/comic art style like XIII but back in 1998.
I believe the GameCube and PS2 version had their own exclusive content if I remember correctly? Also, the 2020 remake of XII turned out this way becuase of COVID which meant the production was much more harder online if I think was what happened and the Switch version was pushed back.
This was the game I got a og xbox for and got me back in to gaming. Now 21 year later I'm still gaming and have a big xbox game collection. So said the remake was so bad.
The remake is STILL buggy to this day sadly, and it's been patched so many times since release, they had to remaster the remake, what a mess!! At least it is playable even with it's buggy mess, but what can we expect from Buggysoft.

Np and I already did both my friend
I'm really enjoying your runthrough of the OG Xbox games.
split screen vs the boys was alot of fun back in the day :)

Best review of XIII that I have seen. I played it on gamecube. Still one of my favourites. Bots should be made mandotary.
Next game: Urban Chaos Xbox?
I'm glad you enjoyed the review! I 100% agree that there should always be bots!
I've had Urban Chaos on my radar for a bit. I'll add it to the recommendation list.
This game will always hold a place in my childhood memories. I was obsessed with XIII. Luckily I have it on Steam and can replay it any time i want
First game I bought for my og Xbox 4 years ago, along side splinter cell 1 and Pandora. Still my favourite console among my vast collection to this day.
That's an excellent set of first games to get on the Xbox!
I got this game back in late 2003… loved it! Head and shoulders the most underrated game on Xbox

Is there any you recommend? I like comics, but I haven't ventured to far out of my own country. Tintin seems like a classic!

Yeah, I was wondering when you were going to cover this one. This is a damn good game!

Unfortunately every other version of XIII has that game mode, but not the Xbox. IDK why that is, but it sounds like a blast.
@@campxbox that is strange! It was such a unique game mode. I dont recall seeing any other game do anything like that.
Wow!! Sad I missed out on this one as a kid, used to see it in stores, but for some reason the whole comic book style never caught my attention. But this looks awesome! May have to pick it up and give it a try. Great video.
Glad you enjoyed! It's well worth picking up and checking out.
First Comment. This one was a good one to cover. Played on the gc back in the day. Super fun & underrated.
your comment was second. i seent it

this is the first game i played online on. My dad had this game and xbox live and it felt unreal at the time haha.

I just looked up Forgive Me Father 2 and it looks awesome!
5:20 ooofff nam flashbacks from this mission xD
I feel you, that was a brutal stealth section.. hard to keep track of everything with so many identical tents
Much like Jet Set Radio, I feel this game is more style over substance. But the style is so strong, that’s not really a bad thing.
Yeah I'm that type of person that doesn't mind style over substance if the style is well done.
I won't say XIII is one of my favorite 6th gen FPS games, but I do love the cell shaded art style for the game. Wish Monolith's Shogo Mobile Armor Division had an anime/comic art style like XIII but back in 1998.
Dude they recently made a indie FPS game called Fallen Aces. It looks just like XIII, with its graphics and comic book style presentation.
They don't make em like this anymore! Played this so much on PS2 back in the day
A very fun shooter
I'm early for this one sheeesh
I used to rent this game alot on ps2 but the snow stage was hard.
Yeah that stage can be brutal
Good game Camp Xbox
A Masterpiece.
I remember i called the game X 3 for a while when i bought it😅One of my favorite games

Thank you for rewiev. All of time I was neutral to xiii.
Thank you for watching!
Bots were always fun on this one
This game was a banger on PC back in the day. Sad the Remake is so busted.
I played this game back in the day on GameCube. The load times are horrendous and when you die it has to totally reload the game
I play a lot of Xbox shooters but is it just me but I felt like the controls were super clunky I couldn’t get into it :/
back when ubisoft actually made good games and cared about their work and fans too
This was the game I got a og xbox for and got me back in to gaming. Now 21 year later I'm still gaming and have a big xbox game collection. So said the remake was so bad.
I loved the original, recently played the remake and i wish i didnt 😂
The poor man's Killer 7
