18:08 anyone else love generic buttmetal riffs in early 2000s stuff? 18:50 very much agree. Even if the game stinks, it's still good to document and use to broaden our understanding of how gaming evolves and how one disaster of a game might have prevented another game from making the same mistakes, thus leading to a great game further down the line. It's this indirect way developers kinda learn from each other
Brute force and bloodwake were absolutely some of my favorites that nobody talks about... that and bloodrayne!! Man i miss the eclectic mix of games that we got in the early 2000s, and how so many things felt so fresh and cutting edge.
I was searching for Knight's Apprentice since i was 7 and lost the disk in a box full of nameless cds. It really itched the scratch behind my memories. What a relief
I just had to say thanks for helping me rediscover Seablade! That game lived rent free in my head for years and neither I nor my Father could ever find "that x shaped spaceship in the ocean game" no matter how hard we tried. After watching a few of your videos i knew if i was patient it would show up here. Thanks for ending a years long search my man!
Fun fact: To this day Elder Scrolls III Morrowind is still an Xbox (console) exclusive. Honestly people who were mad about Bethesda going to Xbox forget their console debut was on there, it's kinda poetic that they wound up together again.
I picked up furious karting because of this video. Also indycar series 2005 was exclusive to the Xbox in North America. That game nobody ever talks about. The game is tough as nails, maybe the best simulator racer on the console. The default setup for the car at each track was typically bad and it forced you to dive deep into figuring out how to set up your car in the garage. Had a lot of fun with this one back in the day, even was part of a league that would race weekly on Xbox live back in the day.
I remember Memorick from the German game magazine i was reading as a kid. They only tested PAL games though, so there had to be a release of it outside of North America
A couple of my favorite Xbox games which were both exclusive are Voodoo Vince and Stubbs The Zombie. Both have been re-released in the past decade, but until then I thought were very obscure games that none of my other friends knew about. I can still have plenty of fun playing them today, they're great games with great soundtracks also.
I liked that you tried truly obscure games. I collect OG Xbox games and some of these would have tricked me out of $10. The kart racer may still get me.
12:37 looks like you play as postal guy here?? 😂 Anyway This is becoming one of my personal favourite gaming channels. That Iron Phoenix game looks really fast paced and runs pretty well* for the hardware. Especially since it looks like there are a lot of effects going on during the battles
I still have my old OG Xbox and it still works, only thing is I have to get the cd reader and gaming tray fixed because it won’t come out sometimes. Once I get all that fixed I will be able to play some old Xbox games and go back and play some old games like Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, NFL Street, Blitz the League and some other games I grew up playing. Thank you for making these types of vids, soon I will have a big collection of games and then my modern systems too and have a lot of gaming consoles to play.
Have you ever played night caster before. I saw it at a game store and got it because it was five dollars. Its really awesome ive never heard of it before i bought it.
Iron Phoenix does support system link. I wonder if 2-4 friends playing against each other in the same room with this LAN setup would be a better experience? Cool video. I'm definitely gonna take SeaBlade off my backlog. In this world of too many games, one less game to worry about is a good thing. Thanks for the content!
Not only did Furious Karting have to deal with releasing the same year as a big Mario Kart release, it also had to stand out against PGR, Rallisport Challenge, and Sega GT on the same console. And then it got further pounded to oblivion because there was another PGR game on the console, Forza burst onto the scene, and then Quantum Redshift became somewhat of a cult classic, basically burying the game under a racing game landslide
Fun fact: Toxic Grind actually wasn’t intended to be exclusive to the Xbox. It was originally planned to be released for not just Xbox, but for GameCube as well. However, for some bizarre reason, the GameCube version was cancelled, and only the Xbox version was released.
Iron Phoenix was awesome. I had a demo disc with a demo of it and I think only a few characters were playable. But I always really wanted the full game as a kid, but never did get my hands on it.
I picked up Memorick a few weeks ago along with Robin Hood Defender of the Crown since I like both the legends, and I hadn't seen anyone talk about either yet. Robin Hood is on PS2 as well rather than being exclusive, but in the UK it seems the Xbox copy is more difficult to get at a low price.
lol, that Iron Phoenix review, "Never understood the game well, it was a clusterfuck and it looks bad, but it was so fun that I could spend hours until dawn playing it".
Fun video! Legit obscure games. I don't claim to know about all games of course, but as a life time game player I'm familiar with a ton of them. Most of these were new to me! Not sure if you've checked out Yager yet, but if you like flying games I would dare to call it "a hidden gem" on the xbox. It's not perfect, but I had a good time playing it.
I loved Toxic Grind when I was in high school. I keep thinking about it even tk this day, but sadly don't have an Xbox to play it. I also miss playing Deathrow. That was an awesome take on sports games.
I think I mentioned before about the Buffy game that a must (the sequel Chaos Bleeds is also alright, but not Xbox exclusive), in terms of exclusive games, I can't think of any other really good ones left after that. Chronicals of Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay? Multiplats from the era you might want to give a go Psi-ops The Mindgate Conspiracy I loved back in the day, Bloodrayne, Tomb Raider Legend, Xmen Legends. Great content as always.
Damn, I forgot about Toxic Grind. I only played it via a demo disc. Back when demo discs were a thing and fun. I used to play this and a few other games even for their short time limits or level access.
I played a bit of Iron Phoenix. I remember learning about it via, I think, Next Gen magazine where they had it in a feature with (the canceled game) Vultures, as some sort of "new type of fighting game" type story, since both were these arena focused team vs team type affairs rather than 8-way movement fighters like Tekken or straight-on 2D ones. Don't believe I played it back in the day, or even spent much time on it now on my modded Xbox - mostly because that sort of "behind the back" swinging wildly around combat isn't very... finessed. The Xbox *had Unreal Tournament 2* for that kind of thing as well, with better online, presentation and more content _in addition_ to letting people flimsily swing around melee weapons while bouncing off the walls in arenas. I applaud it for trying something new, but... I mean, compare to this Sega (and Platinum's) later Anarchy Reigns and you're like, "OH! _That's how the idea should've been executed!"_ lol. At least as far I'm concerned - *that* games has a really good fighting/brawler feel. I think a better modern version of Iron Phoenix would be Naraka Bladepoint, or even Naruto: Shinobi Strikers, so to Iron Phoenix's credit, props to it for somehow resembling relevant, successful titles in 2024. It's clear the devs at Sega Sammy were onto something with Iron Phoenix then, I'll give 'em that. I DEFINITELY need to check out Furious Karting though, from the sounds of it. I can look at the style of the characters in the cutscenes and immediately see the same kind of personality as something like Total Overdose, the Outlaw Sports games, State of Emergency, or Saints Row. That's actually _really_ fascinating to me to see; cart racers are 100% always cartoony fare, so seeing anything else just begs the question as to why more people don't take that kind of stab? If only to stand out in the marketplace. Hearing that it plays well is icing on the cake. I'm also happy to hear about Toxic Grind... mostly because it reminds me I need to play more _Dark Summit,_ lol. Now THAT'S an extreme sport/dystopian future story-focused hybrid game I actually enjoyed! This was a fun topic/video! Seeing Iron Phoenix (and mentioning Unreal Tournament 2 up there) reminds me of other arena/fighting/combat games that are obscure on the Xbox now. If you revisit this topic again, I suggest looking into DeathRow, WarPath, and STAKE Fortune Fighters on backlogged. I cannot, in any universe, imagine those titles having many ratings either, lol.
I agree with Iron Phoenix having its finger on the pulse for something that would be done much better later on. Those are great recommendations, though; Deathrow is one of my all-time favorites.
ooohhh man i played the shit outta toxic grind, wonky controls and all!!! the aquarium level is a fuckin chore along with the greek one but man i still loved it.
Honestly, the most obscure exclusive that haven’t been talked aside from a few gameplay clips is the very odd Volvo North American game that was buried by the amount of simulation racers on the system at the time….yeah. There was sooooo much racers!
Ah yes, that game. I think the most bizarre thing about that game, if you ask me, is the fact that it’s playable on the Xbox 360. I remember being shocked when I found that out. Like…why?
Yea, thats what i actually seriously miss about the late 90s/early 2000s era of gaming... All these fun concepts and ideas that devs just build a game around.
Random question, would you compare Seablade to Defender: For All Mankind or do you think they’re too different? Because the whole rescue people in a flight shooter reminds me of Defender 2002
I remember reading the previews about iron phoenix and thinking it would be so damn amazing. It’s unfortunate that it didn’t live up to my internal hype. In a way anarchy reigns ending up being closer to what I wanted out of the game
I saw Seablade in the 5$ bin and was never sure about it, thanks for the review. I just wonder how much some of these old games could be fixed with patches, Could a patch, even a fan patch turn a 4/10 game into a 7/10 experience?
I remember Iron Phoenix. I was really into fighting games at the time and it was billing itself as a group fighting game, so I was kinda looking forward to it. Then it came out and got terrible reviews.
Its a shame SeaBlade didnt do a better job. I just love underwater games and the idea of having airborne and underwater environments sounds great conceptually. And theres nothing wrong with hoping to find a hidden gem and then pointing out clear flaws. Especially when, in retrospect, it seems SO close to being great!
I had both Toxic Grind and SeaBlade as a kid. Got both from a Hastings store when I lived in Southern Oklahoma back in the late 2000s; I have more memories of SeaBlade, mostly because I couldn’t finish the first level and even back when I was a kid, I could tell how cheaply made the game seemed to be, just from the CG models that moved around like they were in a PowerPoint presentation during the cutscenes. Years later, I picked up a cheap copy just to show my friends how awful the game was. I did think it was comical how the game advertised its website in the loading screen, which is still available for viewing on the Internet Archive.
Wow, I haven't thought about Hastings in a while. Back in 2005, when I was addicted to my PSP, I remember their PSP UMD movie selection being top-notch! I also picked up a lot of Xbox gems there. I do think that makes a bad game fun, though, sharing it with others haha
wow I actually played a demo of that kart racing game. totally forgot about it. didn't like it though as the kart felt too realistic for an arcade racer. i was constantly flipping over my kart in tight corners :D
I was one of the top ranked in the world on Iron Phoenix. Gamertag Ge0v1RuS. My crew Arese, R6R. Top dogs. Good times. Hope they remake so I can reclaim my throne.

Wow, I haven't thought about Hastings in a while. Back in 2005, when I was addicted to my PSP, I remember their PSP UMD movie selection being top-notch! I also picked up a lot of Xbox gems there.
I do think that makes a bad game fun, though, sharing it with others haha
As much as I love the OG Xbox. This is where ps2 had it beat
YESSS IRON PHOENIX WAS SO AHEAD OF ITS TIME!!!! REMASTER PLZPLZPLZPLZPLZ
Dude sea blade has alot of potential for Star Fox/ Knife Edge fans.
My personal faves are Whacked! And Kung Fu Chaos
Please cover Galleon someday
Great game!! 🎉
I collect for 360 right now.
But I am tempted to get rid and collect for the OG xbox.
wow I actually played a demo of that kart racing game. totally forgot about it. didn't like it though as the kart felt too realistic for an arcade racer. i was constantly flipping over my kart in tight corners :D
I was one of the top ranked in the world on Iron Phoenix. Gamertag Ge0v1RuS. My crew Arese, R6R. Top dogs. Good times. Hope they remake so I can reclaim my throne.
My immediate thought was Tao Feng: Fist of the Lotus
I typed in Tao Feng and your video was the first to pop up! 😂💀
Tao Feng.Kameo,Sudeki,Kukato Chojin.
Who remembers Kabuki Warriors?
Nice!
Thanks!
People usually say the Xbox versions of multiplatform games are usually the best among them, meaning, superior to the PS2/GC/DC counterparts. I wonder if you have created videos with such comparisons or if you plan on doing them at some point?
Yeah I plan on them at some point! I think that would be a fun video.
I originally wanted an Xbox because I played a 4p ninja fighting game demo at a store but never can remember the name
Was it Kung-Fu Chaos?
I never heard of any of these games.
*Azurik: Rise of Perathia enters the chat*
You made it 15 seconds until saying "hidden gems".
My new record!
