      a note for the next video, is that you can use the e60 m5 driveline and a manual 3.08 diff because its close enough to the 3.15 needed for the 8hp trans. the driveline fits with little modification and its all bmw parts. i have a friend whos got 8hp70 behind a 800hp 2jz and its holding just fine bone stock. i would bet money you could get away with a stock 8hp70, and then find the limits of the stock clutches in the n54 platform, swap the clutches and be good for 1000hp. the ONLY reason i did the full stage 2 billet internals , baskets, cog drives etc etc is because when i blow this n54 up, i wanted it to be ready for a 1500whp engine swap. if you dont plan on pushing more than 800ft lbs of torque through it, stock 8hp70 will live long enough for you to crush a shit ton of n54 records lol.

      My thoughts exactly. I’m not decided on diff ratios yet. My 3.46 is gonna be short for the 8hp. But not chasing 300kmh so see how it feels.

      @@ZeroTo60Tube if you have 8.8 rear, the 8hp70 with the 3.31 mustang ring gear is identical to the a90 8hp50 with 3.15 oem diff. thats a good place to start i would say because they ran 8s on the stock rear diff lol

    our 8hp45 has been used and abused daily for over a year without issue. It's being run on a 650-680whp N54 in an e92, the xDrive variant. Clutch pressures and Charge times have not changed at all! mine you, we're using the CanTCU with high torque reduction, easier shifting, less load on clutches and all-around quicker shifts. We've been VERY impressed, I'm about to install another 8hp45 into my 135i aiming for 700whp+!

  • @TIPh0enix
    @TIPh0enix 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Definitely something affordable would be ideal. I think once you guys crack this, the swap will be accessible to a lot of people and I for one am really looking forward to having one behind my N54.
    On the other hand, it'd be really cool to go the 70 route just to see how far you can push the platform with such a beast of a box attached to it.
    Decisions, decisions.

    My buddy is building his b58 from the bottom to top end to make 1200hp. As for the transmission, he's leaving it stock, the zf8 in the b58 lasts anywhere 650-700 pretty well. Depending on your torque limits using Xhp, it will depend the longevity with the actual gearbox. Pure makes a stage 1 rated for i think 800 hp? and the stage 2 for 1000 , take it with a grain of salt.

  • @7jaymc
    @7jaymc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I haven't heard anyone causing damage in the 8hp. The most issues I've heard is tuning the factory TCU to not limit torque on gear changes

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats what i heard. And the box basically trying to protect itself. However will be interesting to see what everyone has to say.

  • @justinp2993
    @justinp2993 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think most are already afraid of the cost. There has to be a way to run the 8hp45 without the $4000 controller, that would be the holy grail. I can't believe that someone like Xhp who has lots of experience in both can't work out the coding. I also think the 8hp70 box is going to be tough to find for anyone in the states, not a lot of diesels here, and not a lot of them dying an early death in the junkyard. The 8HP is a better transmission, comparing my n54 6hp, my n55 6hp (both tuned) to a family members stock n55 8hp, the 8 shifts and drives better. That all being said you didn't actually break the 6hp even with all that power, you simply drove through the clutches, that could be fixed with better frictions. IDK it's all interesting but I think keeping it as cheap as possible will ultimately benefit the most who may be watching this. I say if the purpose of this is information and research change your path and start with the 8hp45 in the flomax car. Hell put the 8hp70 in Oreally and see what happens.

    Great video on explaining the differences between the 8HP70 and 45. Looking at Wikipedia, the 8HP70 and 45 have the same gear ratios but are different to the gear ratios in the 8HP75 and 50 which are the same. As a result, the diff ratios vary with 3.3 for the 8HP70/45 and 3.46 for the 8HP75/50 which matches the 335i diff ratio. A 8HP75 would be ideal but I would imagine they are like hen's teeth to find and would cost heaps of cash to purchase.

      I should have had a look on availability. I see on ebay that there are a couple of 8HP75s out of 5 & 7 series diesels in Victoria for sale for $4,000 each. Clean looking units. Depending on how much the remainder of parts cost for the install, it may work out cheaper or similar to the cost of the Nizpro 6HP21.

    Looking at the E89 models using the 8HP, they’re all N20 engined. Is the idea to flash the ZB from the E89, and use xHP or similar to make custom calibration and shift maps? Or can the firmware and calibrations be mix and match between E/F series 8HP cars?
    Finally, any info on the shifter? Does it need to be from F10, or can other shifters work? (eg E82 DCT shifter, F30)

    Interesting that you've decided to put a diesel transmission into a petrol car, have you worked out the big difference between the two yet (besides the amount of torque they can handle), and the major issue you'll have to think about and overcome for longevity? The issue is the diesel motors are vertical, petrols are a slant. Compare the bellhousing bolt holes side by side (I can see them clear as day with the two in front of you in this video) and you'll see about a 15° difference between the two. Meaning the pickup for the trans fluid in the pan will never sit flat, fluid starvation and cavitation will be your enemy. Be prepared for a lot of modifications to make a diesel trans work well (and last) in a petrol BMW.
    There are ways around this issue, but I'd need to talk to you off camera to give you things to look at, as this has been a known issue for many, many years of modified BMW's. I did email you ages ago and said I'm more than happy to give you a call and let you know what I know to try and help out. There are a couple of different possible options depending on your budget. And, not everyone on TH-camwill tell you all their dirty little secrects on how they get things to work, or how much it actually cost (unlike you guys, who keep it real).

    • @geordiegibson1210
      @geordiegibson1210 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@transporter_tv Yes, the 4cyl motors are a slant, it's the 6cyl motors only. If you look at the angle of the straight part on the bellhousings of both transmissions in the video, you'll see the difference - it's not huge, but noticeable if you look for it.

      @geordiegibson1210 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ZeroTo60Tube I'm definitely interested to see how you do it, as it may give me more options to think about for the turbo M62 build. Anything is possible, the Guruautoworks kit basically is just sandwich plates to rotate the trans back to it's proper orientation, so that's not hard and eliminates one of the issues, it does create a few smaller issues but these are easily sorted.
      Just interested in how you're planning on going about it.

    IMHO the 8hp45 is not that significant of an upgrade over the standard 6hp21. The torque rating is the same from factory, yes the 8hp is faster and could theoretically hold more torque, but by how much. Again, IMHO, it is not worth dropping a functioning 6hp, in order to swap it to an 8hp45. If You have already broken a 6hp, then maybe it is worth investing in an 8hp45 over refurbishing/used 6hp. Then again, if You have already broken a 6hp21, You are most likely running torque figures at the 8hp45 limit, as well. Therefore, should You have the spare cash, just pull the trigger on the 8hp70/75.
    Did You look for an (Active) Hybrid 5, or are they not common in Australia? The reason I ask is because I know they run an N55 with the 8hp70, so it should be bolt on front-side. Plus, the ratios should be more in line with what a petrol car should run. If I were to do a swap, this would be the one I would look for, though Hybrid 5s are very rare finds in the junkyard.
