The ones that have manual tuned high hp cars know what a gem this is. imagine parallel parking with a manual tranny double diaphragm spring clutch ,getting your left foot numb🥲. like the car loses street use for sure. but now with this everything changes
Over the years, especially since it has gotten so easy to make power, I just came to really dislike clutches altogether. 8HPs seem like the answer to it all. You can even still have a clutch pedal, without all of the mechanical headache! Dreamy. Lol
just fyi, you can do the transbrake on the paddles. hold downshift to activate transbrake use upshift to bump/stage the car release downshift to release transbrake. you might have to enable bump on tuner pro.
I’ve been dealing with Charles from Track industries. And I feel 8speed has of sorts cornered the market. And it’s become very hard to source parts on this trans ATM. I might be wrong !! Eg their trans conversion adapter from 4wd to Rwd is a 2-3mth wait and clutch emulator the same. manufacturing these type of parts in this country is a must so enthusiasts can enjoy these products and have them readily available. Just my 2 cents 😅
Dude, this is everything I wanted my LS turbo 8hp70 s13 to end up like. Sadly HTG let me down hard but it looks like Lamik has this handled now🤘 looking forward to putting the 8hp back in now!

Yea I had the bangs between gears when I had poor traction setup previously. The bangs are from ignition retard not ignition cut. They can sound cool but I don’t like the fact it causes a boost increase if it’s an aggressive retard amount.
I would highly suggest it the swap mate. Yep, stock used 8hp70 gearbox. I’m at 880NM and the gearbox in factory form can handle 1200nm. So plenty left in the box.
No major challenges, just need to have the correct info going into ecu and back into TCU. I’m running the Link FuryX ecu but both need the same setup to work.
What sort of rpm do you redline the engine for the safety of the box? i’ve seen a lot of forum posts etc saying there is issues with the 8hp boxes over 7500-8k rpm due to oil pump cavitation. Are you able to shed any light on this from your experiences with the boxes? Have an sr that’ll be spinning upwards of 10k rpm.
Good question, i run the engines so far to 8000rpm with the 2jz engines, power is made very early with the 2jz so we don’t need such high rpm. I wouldn’t have an issue spinning it to 8500rpm but I would have concerns above that. 9000rpm I would say is possible, but 10,000rpm is just crazy haha
You think a 2j swap in a e92 with this trans would bolt right up? My concern is with the swap kits already offered for the 2j to e92 swap, would they mate up good with the 8hp.
Like anything modified, Nothing is a bolt in with no modification install, this will definitely fit and be a great idea but you will need to fabricate some things, cross member to hold box to chassis, driveshaft made to suit etc

@@Notorioussociety242 nah that’s actually a great question mate. The engine tune would need to be looked at, only because the auto will behave slightly different in the cruise and idle parts of the map, these different parts of the map the engine accesses may not have been efficiently tuned with the manual. Any quality/competant tuner will have these parts of the map mostly predicted and tuned but may not be perfect. If you have a good quality wideband setup well, it can help also
This is awesome content, but don't get yourself raided and arrested! I'd chop that datalog off at the speed limit if I were you, and delete all of the footage you have of anything that's not strictly legal. You guys have it rough down there.

Yea the v160 would help fund most of the swap if you did. Yea 1200nm is the supposed max limit, but increasing that isn’t a huge job to update a couple of parts in gearbox. You can drop some “Max torque” out of the tune at the 4-5000rpm range but keep HP high heading up the rpm range!
Yea they handle more than 700NM, my 2jz is at 850nm and going strong. Yep Link G4+ will work with this setup. Like any ecu, they take correct configuration to work properly.

No im using a petrol 8hp70 stock box. So a stock petrol converter. In the stock cars these come from, the final drive is about 3.2-3.4 ratio. Even with a 4.1 ratio like I had, you won’t really use gear 7/8 for anything but very low rpm cruise. Even the 4.1 at 8000rpm in 8th gear would be like 400kph. Reason for lowering the final drive from 4.1 to 3.7 is grip, it’s way to hard to get 800hp to grip with such violent gears gearing, I’ve dropped it down to lower the torque multiplier in lower gears.

I’m an 80s kid, all I have ever owned is manual transmission race cars. Now having access to newer technologies for the cars is hands down such an improvement. Same goes for electronics controlling our race cars now, so much better 😃

Is there any noticeable delay when you demand and shift and the shift actually happening? When downshifting is it still a direct feel? Trying to work out if this would be a suitable replacement over a sequential for a circuit car.
Hey mate, yes there is a delay, it’s about 150ms of delay, this could be tightened up a bit but this delay is more to do with the gearbox getting the correct solenoids full with oil to select the next gear, the shift time of the actual gearbox is very quick (70-120ms) but yes there is a delay on top. Roll racing and drag racing it’s not an issue but it may be more of an issue with circuit racing. Maybe a DCT gearbox is more suited for time attack/circuit racing, but I haven’t compared both on a track to really know. Not like the 8HP won’t be a good gearbox for circuit, just a DCT may be a bit better at super sharp shifting times with no delay, if that is a preference. Both 8HP and DCT have pros and cons.
@@Motorsporttuningsolutions1 Agreed. For circuit racing Temperature would become an issue very fast with the amount of changes/RPM you would be at. As long as you can keep the Trans cool and dont mind the slight delay i say why not.

Having short gears, as I always said, reduces drastically turbo lag.

I think it should act sort of more like a stock car. I normally bmw wouldn’t go straight to 7th after flooring it a bit like that.

Yep, can use the Transbrake feature or simulated clutch pedal classic clutch dump. So has two forms of launch.

Not personally but it would have limitations compared to a dedicated TCU.
Good option for people but the TurboLamik would be hard to beat.

No not like a normal auto. I went from 810hp to 775hp, hardly an issue in my books. Nothing 1.5psi can’t change haha

Is there any noticeable delay when you demand and shift and the shift actually happening?

Trying to work out if this would be a suitable replacement over a sequential for a circuit car.
Hey mate, yes there is a delay, it’s about 150ms of delay, this could be tightened up a bit but this delay is more to do with the gearbox getting the correct solenoids full with oil to select the next gear, the shift time of the actual gearbox is very quick (70-120ms) but yes there is a delay on top.
Roll racing and drag racing it’s not an issue but it may be more of an issue with circuit racing. Maybe a DCT gearbox is more suited for time attack/circuit racing, but I haven’t compared both on a track to really know.
Not like the 8HP won’t be a good gearbox for circuit, just a DCT may be a bit better at super sharp shifting times with no delay, if that is a preference.
Both 8HP and DCT have pros and cons.
@@Motorsporttuningsolutions1 Agreed. For circuit racing Temperature would become an issue very fast with the amount of changes/RPM you would be at. As long as you can keep the Trans cool and dont mind the slight delay i say why not.
Yea I believe with the correct cooling system for gearbox fluid, well designed, would not be an issue.
Zf8hp76 transmission is abit faster , then the zf8hp90 the fastest i think , what bmw drivers use ❤
