    Travel advice about South Africa from a South African: There are so many experiences to be had in South Africa. If you are on limited time, decide which experiences you are after and then speak to South Africans about it. These are the typical tourist destinations in South Africa, but didn't touch on what I consider to be the best South Africa has to offer. Bon voyage, and hope to welcome you soon.

      If you are going to make a video for international consumption at least have the voice over done by someone who knows the pronunciation of local place names. Holy smokes! Where is k-nesna for goodness sake. Kgalagadi, at least she didn't sound out the K but she totally massacred the rest of the word.

    Extraordinary that the only places she mentioned on the coast were Cape Town, Umhlanga, Hermanus and Knysna! She left out the coast from Knysna to Umhlanga and even Durban didn't get a mention. East London should at least have been worth a mention as it is the only river which is navigable by ship and for ichthiologists the place where the coelocanth which was thought to be extinct was landed and identified by a woman who was to become the curator of the museum there. Port Elizabeth was not deemed worth a visit? PE is worth a mention because of its proximity to Addo National Park as well as dolphins and whales and more importantly our incredible flora on the Garden Route. It was also the Detroit of South Africa for much of the 20th Century. Perhaps she didn't want to try and pronounce it's new name of Gqeberha and we should be grateful. Kimberley also failed to get a mention which is understandable I suppose because neither did Bloemfontein. Other things she could have mentioned are that we have three capitals, Pretoria, Bloemfontein and Cape Town with Bloem being the judicial capital. There was no mention of the fact that Cape Point in Cape Town is the southern most point of Africa where the cold Benguela current of the Atlantic which washes Clifton Beach meets up with the warm Agulhas current which is significant because it causes the rounding of the Cape to be extremely treacharous to shipping.

    • @gertlamprecht3898
      @gertlamprecht3898 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I agree with your comments about the absence of mentioning major cities. However, the southern most point in Africa is at Cape Agulhas which is more than 200km from Cape Point. The coelacanth was discovered in 1938 by Marjorie Courtenay-Latimer, curator of the East London Museum, but identified by Professor J.L.B. Smith in 1939.

    • @runnerbean5858
      @runnerbean5858 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@gertlamprecht3898 Yes I know about the coelocanth because my mother was very interested in genealogy and Margery Courtney Latimer was connected to my father's family. She had a standing arrangement for the fishermen to call her if they had anything out of the ordinary in their catch. She had a real problem when she discovered it because Prof J L B Smith was on holiday in Knysna at the time. She had to very quickly find somewhere to place the fish on ice until he could be notified and get back to identify and confirm her identifying it. I have the book about her.
