How come there is so much out there that says you cannot paint an aluminum railing? Your video makes it look easy but how long will it last?

      Hi There,
This was a wrought iron railing.
Check with your local Ace, but there is a product called Galvanized Aluminum Primer. Follow up with an exterior grade paint that adheres to aluminum. Hope this helps!

I don't know. I was wondering why many videos say to clean the railing before you start scraping off the paint and rust? Why clean a railing that is going to be scraped afterwards, creating more dust? So, I looked up Krud Kutter and it apparently removes dried latex paint...so maybe that is why. But, would it remove dried enamel paint? I don't think so...enamel is oil based and latex is water based. I think most people use Rustoleum enamel exterior paint for railings.
In my mind, dish liquid would work well enough to remove normal oils from your hands and dirt. Railings are not like car engines. They get rained on and no one is going to want to hold onto them if they are exceedingly greasy/dirty. But, yes - if you have greasy railings then Krud Kutter would work well on them.

Oh just great Lou you made it look so easy yet for some reason you didn't specify latex or oil , I've painted for years and most recommend Rust-Oleum and I used it for years and results were always less than expected, 1or two years if even that long , they simply and honestly do not work ,truth be told. It's a dishrag my friend.🤨

Hey guys, isnt he supposed to sand all the white paint off first? I am trying to do this in my house... I have metal white railings on the interior, but I want them black... Do all i need to do is just buy a primer and black paint, or do i need to sand of all the white first?

    • @marykimberlyhayes
