    Great stuff Mr. Ken ! Loved part 2 also !! A lot of "vintage" iron !!! My Dad always called the low gear " Bulldog" !! I learned to drive in a late 40'S International cattle truck , also know as a "Corn Binder" !! It had the Bulldog gear . Whenever you shifted in the Internationals , you better double- clutch if you wanted to change gears !!! I guess one of the main reasons I love your videos is they bring back so many great memories !!! For that my friend I thank you !!!! Be safe and God bless you and your family !!!!! Eddy

    "Compound" related to 4X4 Hi Lo when I was a young boy. "Granny gear" was those non-progressive 1st gears.
    The only other "Compound" I remember was the Old Mack RQ 718's & RQ 720's. I was 12 years old when Daddy
    started teaching me to drive the old 2 stickers (4X4 & 5X4). The old duece & a 1/2 CCV (WWII vintage) trucks I
    learned to float all my gears, So much easier to drive them that way. Between the Granny & Compound I could
    walk faster than the truck...so I'd jump out open the gate...let thew truck through...close the gate...then jump
    back in & drive the truck. Good video...lotta good info.

    Cool stuff, My dad had a 50 f-100 ford truck when I was a kid. I went and dug one out of a junk yard about 20 years ago but I never got around to fixing it so I gave it to a buddy at work when he retired, As far as I know it still sitting under a shelter at his family's home place. Graet video thanks for taking us along for the ride :-)

    I'm 41 man, you are taking us to toy stores hahaha and childhood. Born in Cuba, in one of the first trucks I started learning was in a quiet 1952 International truck and yes, you can walk by their side idling, very quiet truck that was. And the family sold it, too sad. Was in great shape. So you certainly bring lots of beautiful summer vacations in that truck visiting families in the Country of Florida, Camagüey, the area from where is my mother side of the family. Great channel man, and awesome content, you're bringing back to live lots of engines that are sitting ere, missing the old days fun!!! Great job, keeps you busy and active, that's good!

    Back in 76 thru 79 I was working for a Nursery ( landscaping biz) but we used to lay a lot of sod, and used to have to go cut & load our own too! I used to run the old walk behind sod cutter but after running it for a while, in a day, that thing would wear you out! But boy fooling with that sod it sure would put the muscle on you, like lifting weights all day! Anyhow, I quit school back in 76’ and went to work the very next day ( didn’t have no choice, my old man told me I had too)! You know how that is!! Anyway, good stuff brother man!! 👍✌🏻

    My 1st encounter w/a super low gear was about 6-7 years ago working for a supply house...Had a bunch of Internationals(manuals) & some Ford Heavy Dutys(those were automatics). One of the chief drivers & I were coming back from making deliveries & ran into rush hour traffic. Dave says to me: "Throw her into super low." I'm like, "What?" Dave then tells me get out of regular 1st then go hard left & up...when I released the clutch, it was like the truck had shut off - it dropped to about 600 rpm, but the old boy(built in 2001) kept right on moving - yeah, I was impressed.

    • @1963impala2drWaylonWire
      @1963impala2drWaylonWire  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      we used to call it "Granny low" and we'd haul hay on the farm with some old flat bed truck.. you could put er in granny low and get out and walk along beside it and throw hay bales up on the back. you'd just walk along and reach in through the window and turn the steering wheel a little once in a while

    8:04 AND it's a two speed axle! That's the truck I want. I need a dump bed about three times a year. We got out of dirt farming in the 80's and sold our grain trucks. I've wished for dump bed a million times since then. Those old flathead Dodge's never die. Fresh gas, Marvel Mystery oil and patience will get any of them going. The only thing about them I don't like is the damn distributor is not easy to reach at all. You about have to pull it to mess with the points.

    • @Punk-Jw
      @Punk-Jw 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@beckywatt5048 It can be done with that 10 speed too, but the shift pattern will change. We used to do it with 9spds a lot

    • @beckywatt5048

      Jeremy Wilson That does make sense, now that you mention it , I used to work on a lot of converted road trucks whers 8th and 9th , and 9th and 10th were way out there , instead of a straight ten spd .It made them hard to drive fully loaded on a secondary road here in Michigan.

    then
    m old truck cabs with speakers opposite the speedos are meant for right hand drive builds where the speedo is on the right and the speaker on the left.. exporting trucks to right hand drive countries made easier..

      Yeah, my wife likes cars too. The Scirocco is actually the parts car for her 76 rabbit. The remaining shell is left to me to do something awesome with for her.

    Talk about a classy tow vehicle. Take the Dodge, (4:45) a 12 or 24 valve twin turbo Cummins, (pre def 24 val.), and a up to date ram 3500 4wd chassis.✌✌

      That'd be cool but that's smaller than I was thinking for a tow rig... I do have a Cummins v8 and an overdrive 9 speed.
