The Volvo build begins… the demolition tear down... wasn’t expecting to find this 😵

- This 1959 Volvo 544 stands us zero dollars. We sold the other one we had for the same price we bought it for and got this one on top of the deal, for nothing. The owner seemed to think this red one needed a lot more work than the one we sold him so we’re going to dive into and see what kind of condition it’s in….

I can relate to doug and hope and wish the best for him ... glad you are giving him time and leg up? Life has been rough for him ... please keep him on the upward path ... may opportunity shine on him so he doesn't have to struggle going forward ... his dry self depricating humor shows his humility and honor as well as his honesty
This was the most highly entertaining episode. Loved the "interview" of Doug, loved the banter. I've never given money to a youtube channel, but if someone started a little fund for Doug and his son to do some traveling, I'd donate to that. He's a sweet guy who really knows himself....literally....😂😂😂
Good hearted woman.
The 1959 Volvo 544 is in better shape than I thought. It'll be interesting to see what Chad and Jolene have planned for the old Coupe. Chad's interview with Doug was entertaining. Nate , Doug and Chad are the best of friends . Like a lot of Canning Mountain Men do is to kick back on the weekend and have a few beers and share some stories and laughs.. .
Plan is start cutting it up, weld it up, then start another car.
Life is like a box of chocolates Doug, every one is an experience. Mistake's,, ,divorce, only makes a person that more stronger in life’s experiences.
Been watching chad for years and yet to see a project finished and dont think he will
Have you not seen the cars in his new shop/ museum? Don't say he's never finished a car. Let's get real here people
@@Aaronlewis8846 tv cars that nobody wanted. No finished car, no pay; simples.
he did better when the show was on tv.
I was happy to hear Doug correct Chad's " me and Doug" you always put the other person first, not yourself.
I enjoyed the interview with Doug, I think Doug and Nate are great guys.
Doug’s a bloody laugh seems like a good fella
You are a good man Doug.
Please don’t paint it brown
You think he's gonna get as far as paint? Well, if that happens, it's gonna be something that is from a clearance shelf.
I like Doug you always have a laugh when he in the shop with Chad and working hard keep up the good work guys Chad and Nathan Doug and Jolene on the camera
A dry vac comes in handy sometimes. You can keep it under the work bench
I like the part when he empties the dustbin outside the garage door.
Chad is a funny character. Runs around trying to weld a fender in 5 minutes then he dedicates an hour trying to remove insulation from inside Volvo with a screwdriver 😂🤣
Finally - “Doug and I”
Thanks Doug, so appreciate the correction.
My personal peeve. I was watching Jeopardy, and Ken Jennings said, “ Me and my wife.”
I thought, “knows facts, not grammar”
What the hell you gotwo that not finished
show us your cars on your youtube channel.........oh, you dont have one
Volvo actually in pretty good shape! Lot of potential for sure. Reminds me so much of a Volkswagon, but with an ugly front end. If it were mine would only really change the front. Doug is the coolest! 🙏🙏
Your Absolutely Correct !!! The Old Volvo rear half lis similar to a Volkswagen Bug
These cars were great rallye cars all around tbe World... Be a great build if you could do one in Bad Chad Style ...get to use original steel wheels , just modify , make it a 2 seater with vintage racing stickers
if doug will relocate to Hickory North Carolina i will give him a wonderful good paying job and train him in a plastic extrusion skill that will let him progress in life.
A very kind and considered offer to Doug Brown but I'm sure Doug is entrenched in Nova Scotia
My Sister is just south of you in Maiden, can she have the job?
Limited availability, I guess.
Hi everyone and Chad you got to many things in the fire I know of four you haven't finished so please stay on one until you get it finished. God bless and have a blessed evening and night
Who cares what you think let him work, or go somewhere else
Have you cleaned your house? Why don't you mow your lawn?
Hi guys can't wait to see what chad does with this build. love the interview with Doug ! He contradicted him self though! At the beginning he said he doesn't drink anymore then later he said he'd been on a bender! no matter what he says he sounds a loyal dad to his son and a fun guy to be around.
I think he meant he doesn’t drink like he used to, just a few beers every once in a while.
Que pasa por la cabeza de este hombre no termina nada lo sigo por 3 años y no a terminado nada no lo sigo mas
Google bad Chad you’ll be more informed
Oscillating tool with the scraper attachment works great! I use it to remove seam sealer!
Seam sealer? You don't need that. Hockey tape and rock guard in a spray can. Fantastic.Jolene woke up 7 looking like a 10.
@@varioushardcore.....what??? stone.
What happened to the other car? Very disappointing.
Don't think there's much you can do with a volvo shape to make it any more outlandish than it allready looks
glad someone saved the white volvo. go nuts on the red ruster. it is your dream. love the show and Jole vids
Space the front and rear fenders out 4"and and lower car 2". Put some serious tires on widened steel wheels with hubcaps. You have all the gear to widen the wheels. Don't touch the body! Slip a stock V8 with an auto under the hood.
Color is good but maybe black out the windows. Simple Roll bar to stiffen things up after you install a real motor. 3"exhaust out of the fenders (top or side). Hide the mufflers aft of the front wheels mounted vertical.
Fenders are a piece of cake to widen.
Paint the chrome and widen both bumpers.
If you widened the fenders you could put louvers in the spacer to vent brakes or use the lower rubber bits shape to make a brake duct in the same shape. Paint the inside black.
When have to remove stuff like that stuck to the metal, or undercoating, etc., you'll have a much easier time removing it if you cover the area with dry ice. Let it freeze up nicely then it'll come off in pieces without ton or scraping.
Dry ice, oh yes I'll just pop down to the corner store and get me some, who the hell has dry ice to hand, come on please, elbow grease a scraper and a bit of patience is all anyone has for a job like this.
The only thing missing in this video is Jimbo
Then we will have the 3 stooges .
Does people get paid to be rude?
Your model, stylistically, bears some resemblance to the 1946-48 Fords. It overlapped with the 122 model but they stopped selling new versions in the early 1960's. I do remember that the brakes on the 122 were not very good. They weren't fast but they were built like tanks. The grill of the 122 took some style cues from the 1955 Chrysler. They were assembled, but not manufactured, in Dartmouth and were called the Volvo Canadian.
build a 1946 style front end on it.
Fed up with the Plymouth already!
He can't wait to CHAD it up !
"Doug and I" ... Good Job Chad!
If the engine is in bad condition, you could search around for a Volvo 2.0 liter with a Webber carburetor and headers so that you can run a dual exhaust. If the radiator is bad, find a decent 4 core radiator and fit 2 Honda motorcycle radiator fans. Delete the front and rear bumpers. 15 inch wheels, sport front springs and a rear sway bar.
Idea for the Volvo: raise the front fenders up to the same level as the hood. Then adjust the rear fenders to get a nice line from front to back?
I have an awesome tool in my garage. Its called a vacuum 😂
Chad, doug ,and Nathan makes he good team bravo
Cool and honest good buddies helping each other out & work good together, the way it should be.Pleasant to watch
Try using paint thinner to dissolve the glue under the foam and sound deadening material
No, I'm wondering what your going to do with the other 2 or 3 cars you've started lol
The 544’s weren’t built for luxury like doug said but, they were a very good handling vehicle and were really quite comfortable to ride in.👍👍🇨🇦
Don't worry. Chad will take the value right out of it and make it ergonomically uncomfortable to drive if it ever gets beyond chop stage. No doubt in my mind if I'm being perfectly honest with you.
It's nice to hear to working man doing one day of life and enjoying it and more to come love the show from the UK.
Not feeling the Volvo, I was enjoying the chop on the Plmouth, but the Volvo has all the style of a brick.
Looks like a glorified Volkswagen. I bet it was bought by a teacher that wanted to prove they were sophisticated but didn’t have the money to buy something really cool.
Widen the finders and put wide tires on. Then put a 289 Ford motor with a 4 speed trans.
Brings back memories of 1968 while driving to Arizona in the Volvo when the engine through a rod. The car was full of teenage boys going to a ball game. Good times.
It's quite a statment when you can back off bolts that have been sitting for 65 years or so, especially ones that lived in a country in love with road salt.
i like the jumping around to different projects jolene works hard!
Great video, I own a couple volvo 122's so im loving this content. Like that you interviewed Doug cool idea. Keep up the great work I appreciate the content and thank you to all the Kleenex reps for coming by and casting your thoughts all comments matter 👍👍🇺🇲
It seems that you have North American point of view when you're wondering Volvo's marketing target. Volvo PV544 was Swedish middle class family car in the 60's and main market area was Nordic countries in Europe.
That soft rear fender coating inside cabin is noise insulation, just like those black plates inside doors.
You got tired of working on the 34 Plymouth?
Old saying in 1961… If it ain’t fast , chrome it !
If anyone can make the old Volvo stand out it’ll be Chad Jolene and Crew just sit back and learn a lil something, class is in session
Thank you Doug
I thought Doug said he did not drink anymore
means something different in canada
He did too then he went on to say he was drinking the other night
❤split the finders lengthwise at the top of the wheel well 2"to4"😅
Volvos have been an industry leading manufacturer for safety! Also, they incorporate a medium of luxury.
So fun, love the honesty
tune the cabs with a 29 inch or so length of garden hose, without breathes hold the hose in carb and the other end to your ear, tune them to sound the same , I always checked them every day, they ,or mine had a habit of loosing there tune, but then I only knew two speeds, stop and go, petal to the floor to the floor to go which resulted in pedal to the floor to stop.
Awesome, Thanks
I don't drink anymore "Doug"
Yeah I was camping and drinking all weekend 😂
Thank you for your comment. That was a good idea. I’m kind of fed up watching bad Chad anyway because he never finishes a project. He just jumped from one vehicle to another tear it up then goes on works on something else you know I’m done with him. thank you Chad you brought me a lot of laughs because your humor yeahhave a good day
See ya tomorrow 😉✌
Exactly see you tomorrow!!
Goodbye, have a great life 😂
@@michaelbristol6467
Yes, bye-bye
It was built for the family man
fun fact on the volvo....the seats all fold down to make a bed....miss my pv444
VOLVOS LOOK AWESOME WITH ORIGINAL ROOF
I understand your thoughts, of keep building other cars, but i as viewer need to see some finished builds, before moving right on to next project, as this concept get boring quick. On saying this I love the channel!!!!! but please complete builds before moving on otherwise this channel will stay the same......
I really like the Volvo design. Looks like an old Ford '48 tudor.
QUESTION: how about taking out the bottom 8-10 inches of the rotted body to lower the car that way?? I like the lines on the top. The hoods too big also. Looking forward to seeing what evolves.
First time commenter, great seeing and hearing you two having a good old yarn as mates, nothing to serious awesome. Thanks Boris from New Zealand
Can't wait to see the plan for the Volvo
Remove the rear wheel to work on it easily.
come on chad we want to see you finsh something
ADHD kicking in
Definitely something wrong upstairs
I just watched the latest episode from Vice Grip Garage starting off where he pulled the old truck from the bushes ending the video where he is driving it around all cleaned up, shiny and fixed. All edited to fit into one episode. Showing the "how to'" details of how he is doing things and what he is using along the way but without wasting the viewers time. So much more rewarding to watch. No wonder he has more than 6 times the number of subscribers
plus you actually learn stuff watching vvg
@@beerstein7137And?
Instead of another chop, how about narrowing the centerline. Make a single front, single back seat. 50% skinnier between the wheelbase. Maybe a trike
That is actually something that would be nice, but that requires engineering which isn't a strong suit here. You watch "Paper to Pavement? This car is about to lose it's utilitarian charm.
Something about tearing a car down that motivates you to get in the garage. Thanks for the motivation Chad 👍🏼🤙🏼✊🏼
Nice interview 😎👍
The Volvo appears to be in fairly good condition.
It will be interesting to see the transformation of this car. The front and rear bumpers you could just get rid of, I think it looks better without them.
We love the whole bad Chad team you guys are golden thank you for all the amazing episodes keep up the good work lots of love from Pittsburgh pa guys ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ and the puppy 🐶 also
I love the interview style jolene!
Schwedenstahl !😁 (Suomi Iron)
Doug probably never got a door ding, when his car was in primer.
How about a classy Volvo Mini Pickup with a unique tailgate (Sunk in square look tailgate) . A flat paint scraper with sharp edge works real well.
Chad, add some fatness to those rear fenders to accommodate some fat rubber!! That would look great with skinnys up front!❤
Another project that won’t be finished
You should put a small block Ford in the volvo
Having never been a fan of volvos, it's difficult for me to think of anything I could do to it that would improve it. I guess maybe one possibility would be after chopping the hood to stretch it out and make it 4 or 5 feet longer and turn it into a lowrider....sorry, that's all I got 🤷♂️
He could lift and 4x4 it.
Just so you know... A small block chevy fits in these little Volvos very well. I had a 57 with a 283 auto. very cool ride.
How about a copper-looking orange paintjob for it? If you're looking for ideas on color. I've seen a good example on a Woodie car show. ✨
Chad can’t wait to see what you’re going to do with this one
Wow. Shop. Good. Size. The car is. Really. Good. Shape. Hope. The. Engine. Runs. Well. Thinking. That’s there wouldn’t. Be. To Many. 61. On the. Road. Thanks ❤❤❤❤❤
1959 Volvo 544
Chads build take it away chad
Doug is a solid guy no Bs with him and a great addition to Team Hiltz AUTO
Been watching this guy for 18 months and he hasn't finished anything yet
Google 1959 Volvo pictures turned into a pickup truck it looks great that's what I would like to see it turned into😊🎉😮
So Frustrating, jumping from one project to another, and not seeing anything finished.
Or not even seeing the finished project.
I have a great imagination. Or an artist view. With your skills I would stretch both rear fenders. Put a big differential in. Chop the roof but not the way you've done. I'd rake it. Taller in the front than the rear. Put a decent engine nothing crazy or crazier the better.
Just an idea😊
Oh, my bad. He drinks a bit. If ya keep it to a minimum, you're all right 😂
Great! It’s time to chop it, make a coupe out of it, extend the head lights and tail lights, drop a supercharged engine in it…………….and start a new project!
He talks more than he works, done with this channel
I don’t think you are the only one that feels that way
Bye
Easy killer, the guy does a video 7 days a week 365 days of the year. What he can't take it easy once in awhile. You people are beauties! 😉✌
Bye Felicia...
Mind the door doesn't hit you on the way out
Hey Chad if you chop top and bumpers off why don't you shave tails and headlights and turn signal just thinking out loud all you guys are the BEST ❤pray for you guys everyday
Use dry ice to remove the sound insulation. Great work guys and great video Jolene.
good job!
M'Daddy sold Volvos in Oshawa, ON, under "Jake and Bill's Garage" beginning in 1959. At that time Volvo was looking for European-trained mechanics to sell the rugged Swedish car with the funny name. l still recall those cars in the early 70s. l still have a stack of old sales literature on those Volvo 544s. lt could well be that the red Volvo originated from my father's shop -- stranger things have happened. l am still driving Volvos.
You must be a sadist 'cause Chad will defile this poor auto into an "Oh-Dear-Gawd--No"!
Make a pickup. Would be great for running for parts and supplies.
The Volvomino, or the Volchero?
you should give dug and son a hoilday break for them both....surprise him on camera
I think it will look cool chopped. Never seen a chopped Volvo
