Brought some great memories back, I'm 70 now but back in the day that was one fine auto!! LOL that arm was almost gone as it was burning it up every time it made contact. That my friend is a true story Years after I parked it, I got married and had a 63 1/2 galaxy and she wrecked it body wise so I took the body off the 59 and put it on the 63 frame and it was not a bad fit as the body mount moved easy enough but the brake lines were a lot of fun. I used the newer interior, buckets, console, 4 speed, steering column...ect and got her back on the road for another ten years. Oh I also got a divorce over her shit driving and running around on me. No worries as it was for the best. The next marriage lasted 37 years... I lost that one to cancer :( but life goes on as I never married again. Still miss the last one.

Another good one...from what l'm seeing - all it's gonna take is a few dollars (that someone would have to spend anyway on whatever they were driving) & a little bit of time...oil pan hump's at the front - if it'll drop & slide out, be good to see what that sump screen looks like...can't believe that po' o' clock's trying to make time... this car's trying to do right by you Jonathan...l think it was glad to see you coming in the red truck
That's Ol" Waylon Wire with the barbed wire plug wires on his old rat rod "Rockabilly". He's putting together his new rat rod truck now to hold that big GMC V-12. I can't wait to see it done. I love watchin you, and Mr. Ken's projects come together!
Dann the old girl was want to run! Broke plug wire and not running since 77 and then fire off like that, WOW !!! It just might make it to KC if I hold my mouth just right. Great find Jonathan!
G'Day, in the late sixties, my father was a truck driver and drove a (petrol) gasoline truck. A neighbour was always stealing petrol (gas) from it. My father got a new diesel truck, the neighbour only stole fuel once more. Syphone hoses were credit cards everywhere, even before credit cards existed.
In the mid 70's my boss's father in law, who lived next door to his body shop, came in every day & told everyone how great his gas mileage was in his new VW, after listening to this for about two weeks, everyone couldn't take it anymore, so Bud would sneak into his garage every night & add more gas to the vw, pretty soon the car didn't use any gas at all, the gauge never went down. Bud kept this up for two weeks, you should of heard his father in law's stories then................course no one believed him & when it started using gas again, the stories quit..............it was a riot.......
You're So Right, Jonathan on People Worry to Damn Much. IF they could see what we used to do with these old car's and How we used to run 'em. Well, they would just shit them self's💩"👀" he-he. Tranny fluid or Marvel Mystery Oil or ... I have used LUCAS OIL TREATMENT ... A LOT ! I SWEAR by that stuff. Have saved a few valve train rebuilds with it ! Believe it or not. I have a Chevy S-10 that had noisy lifters when I bought it 6 years ago. I add the Lucas right in the GAS and the Oil. Within a 50 mile run the lifters were as quiet as NEW ! I've put at least 30,000 on it and no more lifter noise ! I add 2 ounces every oil change. GREAT STUFF ! And I'm NOT much for the "mechanic in a can" stuff either, but I make sure I always have some LUCAS on hand ... always !
That dent in the rear, it's amazing how it didn't rust over the years! Now a days if you scrape the chrome off just a little bit on a bumper hitting something, the bumper starts to rust like crazy. This car looks amazing and great first start video!
Sounds good. Some marvel mystery oil will probably cleanup and quieten those lifters. A little work to make it a driving car would get you more money and make it easier to sell
Jonathan this is a beautiful 500 just as is! I wouldn't restore anything on it.....just do what needs to be done to make it road reliable and safe. I would love to see you keep it because it would make a great video series for your channel and you actually appreciate cars like this as we do. I would rather see you keep it but I am a classic ford collector here in cincinnati and if you made up your mind to sell it do you have a price in mind? Thank you for another great video and I wish you and your family all the best during the holidays!
I appreciate that you took the time to explainabout the points. There's been a couple generations now that may not ever have learned about them. Same goes for carburetors. There's folks that are afraid of that old technology because they never learned about how simple it really is compared to electronic ignition or fool infection.
Jonathan W though you have said "I'm not a Ford guy" I think you might be getting attached to this old beauty. It loves you. Started up pretty quick for you. Haha. And a guy can always use a shave and haircut by fire.😆
God i would love to hang out with you. When I was a little kid my older brother was was A 352 king. I learned about points, timing etc. Best time of my life you are just like him. Now I'm 65. And building a 47 Chevy truck

My first car was a 59 convertible. White with black top and blue interior. That was in 1965. It was already close to the end of its life. 6 short years. After 4 months of agony I traded it for a top of the line 61 Pontiac Bonneville 2 dr hard top. I still have the hood badge from that old Ford. Yesterday I had to change a flat tire and used a lug wrench I bought new for $1.50 in 1964. I have carried it in every car since then. I will always have fond memories of that 59 ragtop.
I'm thinkin' here that cleaned up nice and all tuned up with new brakes and tires you might just have something worth while. Since the body's so sound and it's so complete that might compensate for being the ugliest Ford ever built. All that being said if you were to do it up right back to pink and everything your wife would be the envy of every young Lady at the grocery store. That trunk is big enough to carry groceries for a whole passel of hungry young men. It looks like a hit from here. 2 thumbs up !
@@timothynewkirk2654 amen! That screams style! That's when a ford had personality and class. Now cars are just cookie cutters of each other. I’ve done this one before! Friends 59 T bird with a H code 352. Pristine car but sat for 20 years. We cleaned it up, put a fuel pump and hoses on it and fired it up. It ran like a beast! Torquey engine for sure. The next weekend we replaced seals and a line in the AC compressor and got the air conditioning working! All the power windows and seats worked as well. You got to know it was in a garage and not outside while it sat. Made our job much easier than yours sir!
We grew up riding in the back windows climbing over the seats drinking out of garden hoses rode bicycles with out pads and helmets and now there scared of everything nice video
Nice video! I have a love for these in particular. I have a 59 Skyliner retractable hardtop. It's been in my family since 77. 352/cruise-o-matic, top works, fully restored, etc. I hope you get that one back on the road.
Not only did you get it to run but it tried to move with flat tires. With all of the chrome and stainless being intact on this car that's what really makes it look nice. Dad kept some old transil oil around just to make sure he cleaned the sludge out of an engine. You do great on all of your first start videos always like to see an old engine brought back to life.

I am sixty one now and I would love to own one of those old Fords.Such a cool car.For some reason I was always into the 64 model year for some reason. I have only one brother left out of the seven of us and he was never really a car guy like my other five brothers. I really miss them and the times we would work on those late fifties and mid sixty model of cars. They cars were just so simple to work on back in those days.Thank you for letting me in joy the video. I have watched a few other people videos and I also in joyed watching them too.
Ya Gotta Love a FORD! Keep it Jonathan and spray it Coral or whatever that color was! Hats off to another FORD survivor! Newk from Kentucky
I am with ya brother! I am in cincinnati and any old ford is a great ford! I am jealous to not have that survivor in my garage.
Rick Middleton I'm in Northern KY...right across the bridge by NKU!
@@timothynewkirk2654 oh crap. I am in beechmont and anderson. It's great to see a fellow ford enthusiast so close. We are ford all the way . We have a restored 56 thunderbird, 69 Mach 1, 51 ford choptop, 64 Galaxie convertible, 56 victoria, 48 coupe we are making a street rod with, and 65 mustang fastback. This 57 is beautiful as is and I would love to add it to our stash! 😆

Rick Middleton watch: 805roadking if you don't already. Great back yard resto of an older F100!
Nice 59 JW.. My dad had a 352 in a 62 Mercury .. Thx for taking us along on another adventure...
Have thoroughly enjoyed watching you tinker with this car. Really gonna make a sweet driver. Still can't believe how solid she is. Those old 352's are almost bulletproof. I really got tickled when you were talkin about the backfires. I guess some people don't understand " downhome mechanikin". Nice video man!
Ford Galaxy sitting there many years hope you get car running engine good condition new tires car wash no brakes awesome video keep up the good job friend bless you
my dad had a '59 galaxy in the early '60's pulled a wheel driven manure spreader hauled gunny sacks oats on the hood/square fenders & drove it to church on sundays
Ha! "I needed a haircut anyway" I love it! Great videos and educational for the younger crowd. Thanks! I remember the ads in 1959 describing the 59 Ford as "the world's most beautifully proportioned car" My Dad had one..
The winding mechanism in the clock is stripped. The gold ornament is on the roof of every 59 Ford Galaxie model to cover a leaded joint in the roof. 59 Ford owner since 1960
you are very fortunate to have such old timer knowledge at your age. Love these old classics and am glad you saw fit to share it with us. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Id love to see you get it goin, would make a good series, Its really a neat 50's piece
I use to have 1959 Pontiac Bonneville . Nice video . Thanks
Got the love the older cars
Watching guys like you inspired me to get an old car that was abandoned and get it on the road again. Doing up a 1963 Ford Fairlane.
I absolutely love it
A great car to do up
Wish I was closer and a bit richer now
I’d buy it
wow, what a sweet ol ford. from here it looks pretty clean and has all its original chrome. thanks for sharing your passion with us.
Been looking forward to this video !
Just reminded me of being a teen ager back in the 1960's and working on the old 50's cars without a clue. An excellent primer of what we did. Thanks
It wants to live. Wouldn't blame it any.
Great video. Love your closing words . . . "people worry a little too much". Couldn't agree more!
HELL YES, We didn't have Credit Cards back in the 30's...........
Now THAT is a funny story !! Sounds like something someone I know real well would do !! LOL ~~ GREAT STORY !!
Yes, I saw that same movie. Walter Matthew was the star of it, I think. (PS You have been caught in your own Bullshit LOL)
This was awesome. I love seeing old cars brought back to life.
Here in my city in Argentina there are a galaxy in the same condition. Its a bestial car.
That is just amazing to see you get this old engine running after 20 years. You make it look easy and that is a sure sign of a professional.
well, if coldwarmotors has a classic daily driver restoration every winter, why not do the same starting with this?
I am enthralled with that channel. His "half-arsed" jobs are better than 99% of the professional jobs round these here parts.
FrankTheCat my two fav channels!!!
Haha, was thinking the same. Two of my favorites are Jonathan and CWM. That whiskey dent will be no problem. This is one clean car.
1963impala2dr is another good ol boy, if y'all want another good channel to watch.
I'm another big CWM fan. Have any of y'all seen the 60 Fury yet? Wow!
I love watching these first starts love the car I'm glad someone like you has given it another chance at life much respect!
cant imagine watching videos like this in 30 years time trying to revive Prius & Qashqai's etc lol
R Alvarez tesla first recharge in 30 years, will it boot?
😂 so true
😂😂😂😂😂
Thank You Jonathan for sharing this Find and 1 start with us!!!!
You're So Right, Jonathan on People Worry to Damn Much. IF they could see what we used to do with these old car's and How we used to run 'em. Well, they would just shit them self's💩"👀" he-he. I had a '59 T-Bird bit I don't remember the exact HP of it now. These old hoods made Cool 'ol sleds🛷to pull though the fields around the farm👍🏼
I had a 71 fairlane in the 80s, broke the throttle cable. Tied my shoelaces up to carby through the firewall and pulled the car home by hand throttle. Good times
Ex-Law Enforcement yeah buddy! I towed many a car to the scrap yard with 2 pair of Vise Grips instead of a steering wheel!
"People worry too much." - I'd wager those have been the last words of many people over the years...
Yep, the last words of people who didn't make the grade for natural selection. Use your brain and you'll be fine ;)
Wow, it started much easier than I thought possible for a car that's been sitting for so long!! Great job!
maybe a qt. of transmission fluid in the oil might clear up the lifters. I imagine the accelerator pump might be dried up.
I would heat cycle the engine a couple of times readjust the valves, if that didn't work jerk the intake lifters are pretty cheap.
" IF YER SCARED TO DO IT - DON'T DO IT " NO TRUER WORDS EVER BEEN SAID. GOES FOR MOST THINGS IN LIFE WORTH DOIN. GREAT VID. SON. GREAT VID.
LOVE these old Fords ! I had a 57 Fairlane and sold it ... still miss it. Was a beautiful Red & White Cruiser !!
Dig those skirts, did they come stock or were they added on??
Junior D stock...
I appreciate that you took the time to explainabout the points. There's been a couple generations now that may not ever have learned about them. Same goes for carburetors. There's folks that are afraid of that old technology because they never learned about how simple it really is compared to electronic ignition or fool infection.
Sort of had a feeling that you were going to go a little futher with the car. That's a good thing.Would clean up well.Make a nice daily driver 👍👍
Great video and attitude, glad to see you survived another day in paradise despite all
Jonathan W though you have said "I'm not a Ford guy" I think you might be getting attached to this old beauty.
Love them old FE motors! That year is bad ass as hell! Wish I had the $$ Id be down to take her off your hands today!
Yeah...that's why they continued making them for trucks into the mid-90s.
I think it's a nice cool old car.I also like watching your video's because you make it feel like I am standing there with you.thanks
“Sounds like Christine” :DDD
Well I watched this video till about 19 mins in give or take then I went outside and changed the spark plugs in my truck. Come back inside and finished the video. Johnathan I know your a Chevy man and I'm a diehard Ford man but brother I wish there was more people like you in the world. It would be a better place.
Is that the heater fan knocking the housing?
Nope, It was the clock, someone must have set the alarm! HaHa

@@RickMiddleton-1 My thoughts exactly. Jonathan just strikes me a good, decent person.
I seen a comment on a post here the other day was a comment on a straight 6 cylinder and they called it a antique and i know iam old but it aint been that long! Best dam motors ever!:)
I didn't know you were a dent whisperer.
I saw that... he 'felt' the dent and knew the date of the accident... was it raining that day too or not... lol Good job though.
AWSOME!! My uncle back in KS years ago had one of those. Put a bunch of ponies to it. My Dad sad he remembers him pulling the front end of the ground with it!! Love old school vehicles, equipment, and mechanics!!
"This thing even sounds like Christine" 😂😂😂
The people commenting against your practices are correct, but only for the vast majority of the population. They do not consider who they are critiquing. You, Sir, may carry on to your heart's desire. I trust your ability to bypass any factory system for the desired outcome, without major risk. Man, I learn so much from you and your videos, and I am one that really appreciates your knowledge, and that you have the heart of a teacher. Thank you Jonathan.
sea foam will clean it out and most likely free up the lifters. but i would wait until after you get it running good. and i was about to say your gap was to big.
@Haz Cat i have used business cards alot most are about 20 thousandths
Thank you Jonathan this video made me realize my coil is hooked up back wards on my 302
I think you've got an electric fuel pump in the glove box.
Sounds more like a dirt dauber nest on the heater fan squirrel cage. Some Fords kept the fan running on low & could not be turned off.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Really enjoyed watching you overcome all the problems and getting it running.
Nice!
That was some good tips on how to set points for people have never dealt with them before.
Oh yeah,,, Nothing like the Taste of Gas,, and the smell of burnt Hair... lol
Been there,, done that...More times than I can remember.....
And you ain't kidding when you said, "Everything today is Throw Away"...
Went to the parts store just here recently looking for Wiper blade refills....
NOPE, You got to buy the complete Wiper..Don't carry just the rubber anymore..REALLY ???
Ain't nothing wrong with my old wiper or arm,, just needed new rubber....Talk about wasteful spending....
Now these....Love these old simple setups under the hood...No EFI, No Electronic Ignition, No Stupid sensors and wires everywhere, No Multiple Coils, or MILES of Vacuum Hoses all over....Just keep a spare, set of points, Spark Plug and an Extra Wire, a spare Fanbelt, a roll of Black Tape, maybe an extra Quart of Oil and a handfull of tools... Heck,, you can pretty much get her back home....
It's getting to the point, where you can't even work on vehicles today, without having to use Special tools and/or equipment... Just imagine what it's going to be like working on vehicles 60 years into the future... Well,, You and I won't be around then to see it, 'Cause we're both Old...lol
Gasoline fueled Autos might be a by-gone thing of the past by then....
This was the first of your videos I saw. I've watched every one since then. You are a master of what you do!
make it drive able J.W. I KNOW you have to many projects .but you can do it justice .have a not a rat rod build.i would to put some cash into it.and im sure there lots of good people that will fund the build wright people.just a few bucks from us yuoutubers can make it happen (WITH YOUR HELP AND GUIDANCE J.W)PLEASE
Tye Coleman I'm a Ford Man. I'd throw in $50.
I love that ford. The fender skirts just sets the whole car off. Got to love them skirts.
I like it when its NOT some rich guy with everything finding these old cars....the 'blue collar' worker who loves any old car as such....m.o...
mick Jagr oh you mean the rich guy who will take it to a garage, have them restore it, and use their talents to go win car shows acting like he did it? Those rich guys? Lol
drby0788 ..yep..those "guys"...so true man
I DID THE SAME AS YOU MANY TIMES WITH THE GAS BOTTLE XCEPT I DIDN'T HAVE THE SMART CAP LIKE YOU HAD THERE W. THE SPECIAL HOLE IN IT.. I BETCHA THIS METHOD WAS USED A LOT BY EARLY DIRT TRACK RACERS AND MOONSHINERS. GREAT VID. MADE ME SMILE WIDE FOR THE OLD DAYS. I THANK YA
Good deal.
Chuck Haynes UGLY...wash ur mouth out!
@@timothynewkirk2654 amen! That screams style! That's when a ford had personality and class. Now cars are just cookie cutters of each other. Remember a time when you could have a car coming towards you at night and you knew what it was before it got to you just by the headlights??? Good luck doing that now.....😕
Rick Middleton - back in the 1960s I used to know all the taillights at night....‼️🍺 Back when cars had class🎯🎲
@@mrdiplomat9018 very well said and those are days I miss dearly.....
Ugliest ford ? Nah there have been abominations since then
I’ve done this one before!
What a gem! Starts like it ran yesterday. Accelerator pump is not sealing, but fuel is flowing through the carburetor. Trans is even trying.
Great to hear it running again! Your videos are the best!
Hi there, first time I’ve seen one of your videos. It’s really great to see people still keeping these old girls alive.👍👍
