- The short - PLX-1000 is an all around fantastic turntable. It's great for DJs who scratch and the works. The PLX-500, however, is not.

Thank you for the torque demo!! I came close to the 500's and I'm soley scratching!
i used 1200s a decade ago and trying to get back in the game. great video, saving me from making a big mistake.
Just total respect of you scratch dj guys, I am just looking for a reliable solid turntable for music listening, and I totally will get the plx 500 to listen to my vynal. Thank you so much Sir 👍 Tam.
How's your experience with the 500's?
I'm about to buy
@@apollian I own 500's, never had the 1000's. solid buy for the casual spinner
light years up from the Technics I had prior
Have a different preference 3 yrs later today? @@wesleyhiatt5437
So I decided on the reloop 7000s MK2s 👌🏻
I got the 500 a week ago and I love it so far, maybe in the future I will upgrade, I wouldn't mind a belt-drive turntable next
Why would you go from a direct drive to a belt drive. Trust me. Belt drives suck to mix on, I learned on them. They’re horrible. Just a suggestion. Go with techs.
Hi all, I’ve never used either of these (I’m still on Technics 1210’s which I bought 3rd hand 12 years ago & are still holding up great!) but I hear the 1000 is great & the 500 is rubbish. I saw other videos of the 500’s & people who got them were very unhappy with them so save your money for a bit longer & get the 1000’s. You should be happy with them! 👍
for some reason my gear gives to much buzzing sound with those ground connecters ive tried adapters but they dont work.. the only solution that works is turntables with built in ground. thank you for talking about this... you made my chose... the 500 will do just fine for mixing my record collection.
Interesting that you prefer the built in ground! Glad you found it helpful.
Awesome review of both now I really know the differences and I will choose the 1000 thank you
I don't get your point! What's got the torque to do with your scratching? The original technics 1200 mk2 even got less torque than the plx 500 and i'd bet my ass that almost everyone you ask would prefer the original technics than the plx 1000!
i agree…As long as the needle don’t jump!…lol
PLX-500 is a starter turntable and maybe a little better than Audio Technica AT-LP120XUSB. PLX-1000 is totally different game that you can compare to Technics SL-1200GR that falls short in every way compared to PLX-1000. The crazy thing is that the Technics is three times the coin compared. You pay for the brand nothing more and the sad part is many fall into it with a huge placebo effect. PLX-1000 is the go to DJ turntable and the best of the DJ turntables that also has a sound quality for audiophile use. PLX-1000 and Ortofon 2M Blue is not a bad pairing for audiophile if you are on budget. Next step would be Ortofon Super OM 40 that in my opinion has better sound quality than Ortofon 2M Black on this price point. For sure if you want to have Ortofon 2M Black you will also need a very good amplifier/filters because the Black picks up lot more sound and the background noise can be loud if you fall short on other components. The turntable is brilliant and can handle the sound as the source. That's not a problem.
2014 the PLX-1000 was advertised 13.1kg. 2022 manual has it 14.6kg. 2023 Sep the weight is about 15.5kg on my new PLX-1000. No fails on tonearm, speed is spot on, all the adjustments function 100%, no platter wobble. Absolutely brilliant turntable. I would recommend to spend a bit more and get the PLX-1000 over the PLX-500 if you can. PLX-1000 is not a copy or clone of the Technics. Pioneer got the rights for the Technics at 2010 but Pioneer only used the blueprints to design an all new turntable that is better in every way.
@@ElectronicMusicUnderground Reloop 11.7kg vs 14.6kg for the Pioneer. Reloop doesn't come with dust cover. RP-7000 MK2 AU$800 + dust cover AU$130 = AU$930. I paid AU$940 for the PLX-1000. New prices.
@@ElectronicMusicUnderground PLX-1000 is less than 0.01%. Step better than Reloop. Go and search the specs.
Plx 1000, in Spain 750€ y.
i got 2 of the 500's. for "normal" mixing... house music for example, they work really great but yea, like you said. for scratch dj's / hip hop dj's i would highly recommend the 1000's. greetings
Thanks! Happy to see other people having the same thoughts on the two.
I’m thinking about getting a pair of plx 500s for mixing Spanish techno Makina and similar style music are they any good for mixing and holding beats I’m hearing so many mixed reviews
very helpful. you just saved me $700
You missed out the most important thing. Low to medium low turntables have strobe lights and fine speed adjustment because they cannot be trusted to spin at the right speed. (Otherwise why have these features? Properly engineered Hi fi turntables do not have them. Of course the pitch adjust is not only for correcting the speed but you can improve on the music by changing the speed to suit your taste you don't need to hear it the way the artist wants you to. Hey it's your vinyl you can do what you like.
So technically I'm not a "Scratch DJ" but.. I am a house music DJ using mostly just beat matching cue up. How does the performance of the 500 do in terms of that style of DJing? I have actually been using my same Gemini XL 200's now for 18 years. lol believe it or not. So I know the PLX 500's would be better than those.
XL200 is belt drive?
Thank you very much very very helpful thanks again John
The plx 500 can handle beatmatch? Because i need one pair to go on some local bars and to have at home. I know that a clubbing experience is not recomended, but i think some small/medium events, open air they can handle right?
Yes
Nice comparison
What about for converting to digital file like mp3 or WAV
Would the torque make a difference ?
I see some old school hard style or hard trance songs from say 2004-06
Seem to be off bpm
Sounds like it kinda slows in between
But in saying that
I assume they would have been using old tech from back then
Thnk you for this. Really helpful
U are good in observation
Thanks for the video. I was looking at getting the 500's simply because they are nearly half the price but the 1000's seem worth the extra $$$
Exactly the same with me. Thinking I might save up and get the 1000's.
@@D5DRIFT like I said in the video, if you're planning on scratching, get the 1000s! If you're just going to listen to records, you can just get the 500s.
@@ExcellenceSoundKrew cheers mate. I'm not looking at scratching at all. Someone said the 500 is more plastic than the 1000. Is this the case? Be honest, does the 500 feel solid and heavy to you. :)
@@D5DRIFT i'm pretty sure the 500 is made of the same metal the 1000 is made of. I have no idea why someone would say it feels like plastic.
@@ExcellenceSoundKrew I'm going to get myself down to my local DJ shop and have a play with these. Thanks for the info, and, great video.
Very helpful. Thank you.
Anything beat the 1000 at the same price point today? Or comparable for much cheaper?
The PLX-CRSS12! th-cam.com/video/13IOKjvINMw/w-d-xo.html
Does the sound quality of plx 1000 and plx 500 are both same for music listening?
Hello. I don't recall there being any differences in the sound quality. Both sounded the same.
@@ExcellenceSoundKrew Thanx for the clarification and quick response .
Is the PLX-1000 pretty much the same as the AT-LP140XP?
Not even close to the pioneer. The lp140xp is not worth the asking price of $500
The whole tone arm assembly is weak. Mine was very loose. The plinth is plastic, and there is zero damping. The target light in the up position is very loose, not smooth or solid at all. The power cable kept falling out of the unit, I had to push it in numerous times. The platter, when seated on the spindle, wobbled when applying slight pressure. The anti skate didn't work, the tone arm lift isn't damped, so when engaging it to lift the tone arm, the tone arm jumps up. Overall very disappointing, if you want to compare the plx to anything audio technica then it would be the lp120xusb.
The pioneer is steps ahead in build quality and performance compared to the lp140xp
Does one sound better then the other? Thats the only thing i care about
they sound the same.
What about the difference for mixing on?
I'm all so looking at the reloop 6000 in white just the listen to vinyl. So not sure pioneer plx 500 in white. I think the reloop looks better
What I don't like about the plx 500 is the fact that the rca are permanently attached to the turntable.
who had an idea for producing a buitl-in RCA cable? and why did they listen to him?
Going to be playing techno and break beats but no scratching. Any preference?
500s should be good for you
Just curious, since you mentioned real records. What are fake records?
lol. Sorry, i meant records that aren't timecodes, i.e. for Serato/Traktor.
@@ExcellenceSoundKrew Oh you were talking DJ records vs listening records. I see
Plx 500☆☆☆☆☆
can someone please let me know if i got a faulty plx-500 i keep getting pitch fluctuation on serato i know some is normal but to the point where my mixes and keep on beat
Omg thank u im watching im still on these damn controller man lol
So no difference in the tone arm and assembly
Why don't you ever say turntablelst?
Hi!

So this is basically bashing a 1200 mk2 clone ?
Yeah the 500 is like an MK2 and the 1000 like a Mk5 as far as I can gather
3:45 doesn't sound like bashing to me
@def creator I was talking more about playability based on reviews I'd read.
everybody loves raymond
No scratch ‘n for me……
Me parece una vulgar copia del 1200MK2 de Technics.
the 500 is a huge peice of crap, looks like allllll the cheap ass decks
