#1 needs a little bit more clarification. You DO want your tone arm straight. Having a straight tone arm prevents excess record and stylus wear.
Mounting the cartridge all the way backwards or all the way to the front of the headshell is also a big nope.
Use one of those alignment jigs to mount it properly.
When connecting the headshell/cartridge to the arm, twisting that socket nice and firmly is also a big nope.
Damages the bearings and possibly binds together, so you'll have a hard time to get it off again.
And moving the turntable with the platter still on, also a big nope.
A heavy platter puts alot of strain on the spindle bearings in the case of movement and it could potentially come off.
the height adjustment is to compensate for different cartridge heights

Guy tried selling me a record and when he sent me a photo of the record I also seen a penny on the cartridge. Was never buying the record after that as the grooves would have been worn to death. I have my tone arm at 3 and anti skate at 2.5.

Technics shells to use the Stanton 500ALII require additional weights of at least 3g… 25 years ago when I bought the first 1200MK2 they were included… Now not anymore. Now that I have purchased the 1210Gs I have removed them from the old MK2s and they work great. I have never used the arm lock because the turntables have never left the house ... Excellent advice for the less experienced 👍🏻

Another no no is putting the counter weight on backwards. If you have the tonearm set up correctly then you shouldn’t need to have the weight on backwards or any additional weights on the headshells (I use concordes so couldn’t use the weights anyway).

To be fair, we only did the coin on the cartridge head on cheapie turntables back in the 70's along with our cheapie records so they didn't skate across and would barrel through spots where it would otherwise skip. These were mostly ceramic cartridges on BSR turntables and with no internet we had no one to tell us not to do this, lol. Usually the record player as well as the records were lying about on our playroom's floor with the records lying bare on the carpet. A holdover from when we were even younger and using very cheap electric turntables with accoustic tone arms and soundboxes, playing the same kiddie 78's our parents had when they were kids. We knew the old 78 heads weighed more than modern heads so we simply re-created that extra weight and it worked a treat. If the record wore out, so what? At that age we weren't interested in sound quality. If we had been we wouldn't have been listening to our tunes on 9volt AM transistor radios with straps for hanging from our bicycle's handlebars. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Heck, back then we'd have laughed at all these modern turntables because they were like old wind up victrolas in that they could only play one record at a time whereas we could load a whole stack of them onto the spindle and listen for hours.
On point #1, I raised the height of the tonearm because the rear of the cartridge was very close to the vinyl, if the vinyl was slightly warped it would knock into it. Is this an acceptable reason to raise it, or is there something else I can do? It's a Ortofon VNL cartridge
Thank you for the advice! Can you please make a new video about what you need to do, when the platter stucks to the spindle. I tried many times to tap the spindle with a wooden spoon, but it’s still stucked. Would be very awesome if you can make that happens, thanks!
For the vestax u can unscrew the Platter and Just lift it off after. by pulling up from beneath the holes while pushing against the spindle with your thumbs u can get it loose if it got stuck over time.
I had an incling you'd mention the headshell weights soon as i seen the coins sitting there 😂
This should be more complete. DO balance the tables on the surface they are on, before calibrating the tone arm. DO calibrate the tone arm to cartridge specs (counterweight and anti-skate). DO not remove the platter while its spinning. DO not remove the cartridge from the tone arm unless replacing or cleaning. DO clean under the platter regularly.

Ellaskins, all due respect, but tip #2 is not applicable to all turntables. the one that i am using for example (AT-LP120X) - when you move the tone arm back to its "resting" position, the tone arm is not anymore laying on the lifting device that you control with the lever. in this way, you can lock the tone arm even with the lever upright. of course, everybody should check their turntables and know if they whether they can do this or not
I've seen people take the needle off the record without using the leaver leading to a cringing but hilarious scratch sound but also I knew it would lead to damage of the stylus

Don't put your speakers in front of your turntable.
Never in my life use coin in my cartridge needle even when I battle style scratch mix oh mixing music oh listing to music n chill out is a great turntable the pioneer 1000 beautiful turntable for everyday use n DJ mixing scratch n to chill to listen to music once you set it up with the antic skate to chill n listing to record lp for the DJ leave the antic skate to 0 keep it there for Battle scratch DJ all the time you could set up the weight to the gram that any other cartridge needle need to be set up so it track the record better just let the needle break in for less skip it take you a couple of day by scratching oh let the needle sit in the turntable for a couple of days so it break it if you not using it give it time to break in n you be good to go n it will not skip n break in your record too if is not a skipless record that is only for scratch DJ
Putting the needle on the slipmat while spinning is a trick in turntablism. It Usually doesnt break if u do it once or twice. Still dont recommend it tho
