This is the reason I started playing guitar in the 70’s when I was 12 years old.
Turning 60 soon, 6 kids 8 grandkids later, still playing guitar, teaching three generations after me guitar and it all began with this song on this album many moons ago. Thank you Don and Joe.

This is the best live song I have ever heard. Probably better than the recorded one. The fact that the drummer is the lead vocalist and sings just like in the recorded version or probably better, blows my mind. Mad respect!
Drummer in this instance--they had to change the key of the song because Don Henley's voice is so high.

Steve Winwood was lead in the Spencer Davis Group in the 60's and Blind Faith late 60's while playing drums. Phil Collins with Genesis,also not many more so this is quite rare 👍

I'm 67 years old. I've been a drummer and a guitar player since I was 8 years old. I have always been able to sing lead vocals and play the drums as well as sing and play guitar. I'll tell you what's impossible for me to do, and that's play bass and sing. Nope. It ain't happening. I can sing some soft background or short harmonies, but that's about it. Lead vocals are OUT if I play bass.

I would’ve always imagined singing in perfect pitch & harmony would’ve been the most difficult while playing drums since each of your limbs are doing completely different things, and then to belt out a perfect singing voice simultaneously seems like a superpower. But considering Paul McCartney taught himself to play bass after losing their bassist, and still sang all of his songs in key, that’s pretty impressive knowing that you say it’s difficult.
If you're a drummer you should be able to sing and play at the same time .. plus his is quite easy Cos the song is slow paced.

It maybe crazy but I cannot just read the lyrics without the beats and following as singing the song.
It trips me out to no end how someone can play drums well and sing well all at the same time. Unfathomable.
Everyone makes a fuss about that but it's no big deal. Playing guitar or piano is 1000 times harder than playing drums. Any decent high school drummer could have played those drums after having heard the song once in sound check. Try that with those guitars. I'm a singing drummer no problem and I'm far from superstar talent. I did notice that Henley is singing on the beat and accenting that somewhat, which does give him a unique, albeit somewhat percussive, sound.

Its about how you play it. And a good drum solo is just as hard to play as a good guitar solo. And no no high school kid can play the drums and sing like this man.

One of the greatest things about the Eagles is that they sound the same live as a recording. The sign of a great group! So frickin talented, and their music soothes me!
Yes, they were one of those early to the scene Laurel Hills bands who could all play their instruments and play them well. No session players necessary for the albums.
Glenn Frey insisted the band play their hit songs exactly as they were recorded. He knew their fans came to their concerts to hear their hits just as they loved them on the radio and records.
A sound analyst ran the vocals of 2 live performances (from different years) through a programme:
His finding was that the 'live vocals' were EXACTLY the same - impossible to replicate in real life.
In other words, The Eagles have been lip syncing at live concerts. Sad, but evidently true.
@@BOBMAX68 Sounds logical. But former bassist Randy Meisner left The Eagles after a heated argument with Frey who insisted Randy sing “Take it to the Limit” during every live show. Randy claimed the song was very hard on his vocal cords and couldn’t guarantee he’d be able to hit the high notes night after night. Frey refused to relent and Randy split.

I love how you can hear most of the parts of the solo in the verses of the song. When I heard the song for the first time, the solo hit and I was like "I've heard this before.." Then I listened again and realized that I could hear bits of it scattered throughout the song. It makes the solo so much more cool.

Not many bands sound as good live as they do in the studio, but Eagles were able to take an already perfect song like Hotel California and make it sound even better live. This is one of the best live performances ever and I'm not sure if any band will ever come close to how great Eagles were again.
I saw them in 2019. At seventy they sounded just as tight.✌️✌️

I’m 71. I loved the Eagles when they hit the airwaves. I wasn’t even 20 at the time. I just watched this video and appreciated the magnitude of this composition more than ever before. It truly is a classic piece of music.❤❤❤❤

There is a reason anytime a poll is taken of the greatest rock songs of all time, this masterpiece composition is at least in the top 3 if not #1 itself. Like a fine wine, it only gets better with age. And in my humble opinion, this version, when the Eagles were at their pinnacle, is the best version ever recorded.

I am now 74+ years old, and am still enjoying this sublime musical song in Bangladesh, reliving my memories of having discovered the Eagles way back in 1977 while I was there in England as a student! Fond memories of the ambience of this eternal masterpiece.
