@@nononou It's easy to assume that Marisa basically became a combination of herself and Mima. Mima was essentially Reimu's "rival" character in the PC-98 games, being present in all of them except Lotus Land Story. Marisa serves that role now, being a friendly rival to Reimu and the secondary protagonist of the series.
Wasn't Yukari a replacement for Mima or something? I vaguely remember hearing about this ages back

@@siriuslyawesome ISC is pretty good, but it's hard for me to play...still play it a lot though. By hard I mean it literally is Impossible danmaku, but that's the point of the game
As brutal as the danmaku puzzle games can be, they're absolutely some of my favorites when done well. I love that all of them have so many different solutions, and so often they test several skills one can have when playing a danmaku game.

If Mima's going to reappear, I'd rather see her as a player character instead of a boss. There would probably be less disappointment that way.
I would also like to see Yuuka as a player character again, but not in a phantasmagoria game.

it feels melancholic until the big trumpet part, and then it feels celebratory to me, until the brief bit of happiness ends and transitions back to melancholy. A lot like mima as a character to me, as she spends most of her time sealed away in makai, dead, but every once and a while she makes her "triumphant" return in an attempt to reincarnate and wipe out humanity.
Just imagine for a second:
A new Touhou game comes out. The Cast of playable characters consists of:
- Reimu
- Sanae
- Youmu
- Yuuka
One glance at the cast and you would notice something is wrong. Marisa is not a playable character!
You played through the game and no Marisa to be seen anywhere. You unlock the Extra Stage. Once you start the stage, a familiar soundtrack is greeting you, with the name "Reincarnation ~ Return to Paradise".
The midboss appears and...
Marisa?
What are you doing here?
- "I've been making some preparation for a big party in secret. I can't have you go any further or I have to make Stardust out of you!"
At the end of the stage, you notice, that the boss is a familiar face.

Sadly, that's due to copyright shenanigans. ZUN doesn't own the copyright to her, thus it's unlikely she'll ever appear.
However, one is not a true fan of Touhou without believing in miracles. Some day, we shall see a new incarnation of hers.

Bro, it's so sad, I understand why the fandom miss Mima, imagine for a second Marisa disappear from the games without trace of her, imagine she doesn't appear in any spin-off, in any doujin, in any main game anymore, she literally disappear in the nowhere. I think people are going to ask what happened to her even a lot of years latter. Well, that's literally what happened with Mima, she was literally as important in pc-98 as Marisa is in windows :/
I would love for her to come back but by this point I understand it will never happen. There's a lot of stuff i love to be explained of the aftermath with PC-98verse, the small things really, but god help me if it did happen, and not like a unfunny joke event, I'd be stoked! But everything ends and we move on. I just wish the fandom still acknowledged some of the older characters who aren't particularly famous for their relationship with said known characters.
But I've always had an issue of having inclination towards niche/obscured stuff long before the internet.
Honestly though I wonder why Yuuka kinda just vanished? She existed and hasn't been acknowledged in any spin-offs at all, I mean it's weird to be brought back then only to have nothing be brought up with it. I feel like Yuuka was just a cameo character and nothing more.

TH 11- Subterranean Sun incident.
TH 12- Byakuren and her stuffs xd
TH 13- Miko coming back because of Byakuren and her stuffs XD
TH 14- Weak youkais' revolution.
TH 15- Direct continuation of IN.
TH 16- Season incident. This one is kinda tricky, this could be another one to bring back Yuuka, it would be a lot more better than having cirno as summer. But I think it also makes sense. Not only because the protagonist have to be strong enough to defeat Okina with help, but also because they have to be weak enough to need Okina's help to go to her and be defeated xD Yuuka doesn't need that help, and she also has the power to control flowers, so she would notice what was happening, and there are 2 posibilities: 1- She know Okina is just treatijg gebsokyo to see if it can keep equilibrated
2- She doesn't know and doesn't care because no mstter how uncontrolled seasons are, as long as her flowers keep the rythm of changes in the seasons, the garden would be fine. So yeah... is complicated xD

Also there hasn't been any spinn off based on nature. The only one I don't know anything is AoCF, and probably that game is related to another thing considering the final boss sre Joon and Shion.

you know, now that I think about it, maybe the reason why ZUN hasn't really bothered to bring Mima back is simply because he's not aware of her having any kind of significance in the fanbase. if he said he wasn't aware of Flandre's popularity until before TH 17.5 and brought her back then, it's possible it'll be the same for Mima. perhaps she will only appear by chance/luck when ZUN becomes aware of her fanbase presence oxo
Thing is, flandre is a consistently top 5 most popular 2hu, but while nearly every foreign fan wants mima back, she doesn't seem to be that popular within the JP fanbase, after all, she was ranked 70th in the character popularity ranking this year.

ZUN could always change Mima's personality drastically like he did with Alice, and to a lesser extent Yuuka.

pikamarisa64 Mima's not actually that popular, contrary to the belief of Mima's diehards. In the annual Japanese THWiki character popularity poll she's dropped about 10 places every year since 2004. It wasn't held in 2013, this year's is currently on, but she was ranked 71 in 2012. In contrast, Yuuka was #7 and Alice was #2. Well, you can at least take solace in the fact that she barely edged out the Three Fairies of Light and Alice's dolls.

I don't know why, but this theme gives me Christmas vibes. Like, it's the part in a Nightmare before Christmas like film where someone dies. Then, after they die the main protagonist confronts some sort of internal conflict manifesting itself as a Christmas themed spirit/Ghost/ entity. Then this is the battle theme when the protagonist fights the conflict thing and ends up realizing it was nothing but a dream. Then they wake up confused in the middle of Christmas morning knowing that nothing happened.

Some people like only 1 character, some people like all the characters, it really depends a lot, so, you shouldn't mind what the others think / say about a specific character, but I know it's hard ;_;

It's intriguing that Zun remastered her theme. I mean, he usually remaster boss themes or stage themes of the character returned from the pc 98, right ? So why Mima ? Sho got reincarnation remastered, appeared on the cover of Akyu's untouched score vol 4 with a new design . . . what could this mean ? Zun doesn't want to bring her back even as a cameo so I don't understand.

He proboably used Reincarnation because it fit the scene it was used for.
Also, DiPP was released after EoSD, so there wasn't a lot of windows era tracks to choose from.

as for a story you could do almost anything,after all Gensokyo settles everything with battles,from a potentially world ending crisis to something as minor as someone stealing Yuyuko's last box of pop-tarts.
all that really matters is if yoi want a cute story or an epic one...or maybe it starts off one and ends up the other like in most Kirby games.
In the end it's your call.but if you want ideas feel free to ask me or other Mima lovers,there's plenty out there after all :)

@Aumima Mimadino true,there are some games that keep the story and actual gameplay in mind...but many more think they can wow you with the realism and number of polygons they can cram into each object.
Obviously the graphics matter but if the controls are bad ore the story is boring the game as a whole suffers.
shame that game you and your freimd made was never finished,but maybe you can still use the concept later on,even if you end up isong something else as a basis for it.

Theres already a theory like that! This theory is formed on the basis that during Mystic square’s (the last game of the pc 98 era) extra stage, alice opened her grimoire and used it for the very final time, destroying and rewriting the universe, hence the current universe is a rewritten one after the previous had been destroyed, separating pc 98 and the modern era.
