      Since Tony's a geek, consider the size of virions (viral particles) and then consider the efficacy of wearing a cheap face masks to prevent inhalation. Wearing a mask outdoors (as Chelsea was doing) is especially ineffective. Most surgeons use N95 Respirators though these must be carefully installed and are one-time use applications. Wearing a cotton, paper, or nylon mask might give you a false sense of security, but understand it does not protect you from the virus....

      @@navis5284 it is not to protect you from virus, mask is to prevent your droplet from spreading and infecting other people... if other use mask then we are safe and if we use mask then other will be safe... when everyone use mask then we can contain infection in to small scale and not becoming super spreader... tony is a geek and even he and chelsea use mask, so you should use mask too...

I turned off the GPS and the Wifi, and that cured the problem for me. Now I turn those on when I shoot and off when I am not shooting. I hope this helps.

  • @davidlee7094
    @davidlee7094 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    There are lots of settings which will reduce battery drain. Turn off WiFi and anti-flicker , turn on power saving and eco mode. Turn off viewfinder review and set disp. Performance to smooth may help lagginess. As you say many people praise battery life on R5 and R6 but the way I shoot eats up batteries so I carry several spares. I noticed how slickly you changed lenses. Either turn off IS before power off or wait a few seconds after power off before changing lenses or the IS in your lens may be damaged.

    Thanks for the quality revie.
    I have a question for Canon full frame mirrorless cameras. The adapter for EF lenses physically represents the same ring as for macro photography, which should zoom in on the image, i.e. change focal length. Plus, the EF's flange(the segment between the matrix and the objective lens) is longer by definition than the RF's. What will we eventually see on the matrix? In my opinion, the image on the matrix should be enlarged due to the camera-adapter-EF lens system. The question is how much to change?
    Thank you.

    Hi Tony. I just Got a Canon R5 and yesterday I filmed for my TV production for the first time and I decided to use 4K-D ALL-I 60P, the files looks fine on the camera if I play there but when I got home and tried to download the files they are ZERO bites on the computer. I use a different computer with the same result. I found online another guy with the same problem and he solved the problem by using the Conn EOS utility software. In this way he was able to download the files. All the 4K-60P -IPB I can download without EOS utility, just by copy past or drag and drop, but this is not working with 4k-D all-I 60 p. All the 4K-60P -IPB and HD files I can import in my Vegas pro 17 but the 4K-D ALL-I 60P that I download using the EOS Utility I can't import in my editing software.
    Can you please test with your R5 if this is an issue? Thank you so so much!

      Ryan B Sony‘s mount sealing really has some issues. It even accumulates dust when you don‘t switch lenses. I believe part of the problem is dust that accumulates underneath the support surface of the mount. Blowing out those areas that are covered by the mount with a blower improves the dust issue a lot. But I also think that the mount is just not sealed to the same degree as Nikon’s and Canon‘s.

    Just wondering if you exchange your lens with the sensor facing down and the lens front element side down to the ground? I usually have the 2nd lens and camera next to each other with the back lens cover screwed off but just sitting on top, and the lens on the camera half mounted, then I can take both off and swap them quickly with swift movement. With the occasional aid of a blower, I almost never get sensor dust that way, even on holiday out and about. However, I also probably don't change lenses anywhere near the amount of times you do.

    One thing that doesn't get mentioned very often is that the Sony A7RIV has 26MP in APS-C mode which gives you a 1.5 crop. So if you have a Sony 70-200 with a 2x Teleconverter (as see in the video) you can cover 140mm to 400mm in FF and 210mm to 600mm in APS-C. The R5 has only 17.3MP in APS-C mode.

    I must say sensor dust is not an issue in Europe. I only uave to use a cleaning blower twice during the last 2 years. On the flip side the f11 lenses are pretty useless here. I barely manages low ISO images with my Sony 600 F6.3. Sunny days are few and far between here in the UK... The size of that Canon 70-200mm is darn good. I am definetly jealous of Canon users having that option

      @Code Bunny thanks for the advice and the reply. I must say the Sony a7iii and the 200-600 f4-6.3 are very capable. I got nice kingfisher diving shots with it. I was just trying to say that f11 lens in the UK would be useless for fast flying birds. I would love to try the Nikon Z6 or the Canon R6 but as a hobbyiest i cant justify the rental cost or frequent changing of the system. The combo you are using though sounds impressive. When you are changing lenses, dust will enter in chamber between the lens and sensor and will stay there even after lens is put back. From that moment on dust inside have a chance to hit the sensor anytime. Unless shutter has brush for sweeping sensor every time it trigerrs.

    I noticed on my R5 that stuck pixels (or are they hot pixels?) appear whenever the shutter speed is set to below 1/10 sec with a black image (lens cap on), and get more evident the slower the shutter speed - most noticeable at 30 sec shutter. Any shutter speed above 1/10 sec and faster, they completely disappear. This leads me to believe perhaps they're hot pixels, not stuck pixels? Interestingly, they appear on the EVF and LCD even before taking a picture. Does anyone have this as well?

    I bought an A7R IV last month, I took it out several times, and didn't get sensor dust, I used the air blower thingy every time before I went out, but I always checked the sensor and never saw dust particle on it, could it be because I bought it recently and newer copies handle sensor dust better?

    • @romanpul
      @romanpul 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It‘s because your camera is still kinda new. With sony cameras (also most other MILCs but to a lesser degree) dust accumulates underneath the support surface of the mount (the part that hangs over the sensor) over time. Cleaning those areas regularly with a blow helps to reduce dust issues a lot in the long run

    • @yamantarakji
      @yamantarakji 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@romanpul I don't mind the complaining because making the a7R IV close the shutter when not in use is such an easy thing to implicate, like the in the a9, I have absolutely no idea why sony chooses not to do that

    • @romanpul
      @romanpul 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yaman Tarakji Yeah, but this closing of the shutter doesn’t actually help that much. Dust will still accumulate inside of your mount and fly around it while you are using it. And also the air that comes into your mount when you remove your lens has dust in it. So the closed shutter is only preventing dust from immediately settling on your sensor. Regular cleaning of the entire mount with an air blower is probably the most effective way to prevent sensor dust. From my experience most sensor dust does not fly straight onto your sensor when you have your lens but is dust that already is inside of your mount

  • @garrettstevensen2467

    Out of curiosity, why is the camera held up towards the sky, when changing lens? This helps "funnel" dust onto the sensor by gravity. It specifically says not to do this in the owner's manual. This explains why you are having so much dust on your Sony's.

    If Tony was shooting with the A7R IV to compare with the R5 why was the A7S III used for the video comparison (08:33)? I can't say definitively what the relative battery lives are BUT one of the commonest pieces of advice I've come across with mirrorless cameras is to carry 1 or 2 spare batteries! I had 2 Canon and 2 third party batteries for my 80D which I now carry with my EOS R. With heavy use I tend to go through just over 1 battery per day. I'd certainly rather carry an extra battery or 2 than forever be cleaning the camera sensor or having to remove dust spots in post processing all the time. Interesting to see that 600mm f/11 being so useful for landscapes.

    Thanks Chelsea as this was a great review and brought out some great information for me. As I'm debating staying with DSLR or going mirrorless. As I was planning since just retiring to really getting into photography as it always been a dream of doing wildlife and landscape or if lucky enough portraits and other areas which though I probably want get to in my time. But have been looking at the 90D and the 70-200 as that is my dream lens that I've always wanted. Though I have a about 4 other lens that are DSLR already and wanted to keep because of all the cost involved to move to a newer camera and get the lens of my dreams. But now with mirrorless I question to stay with DSLR or go ahead and move to mirrorless though that expense is going to be a way bigger move than I planned and wonder if worth it.
    Though seeing a lot of great reviews that maybe the better choice in the long run and maybe hope to get enough on selling my other lens I wanted to keep and get a few of the newer mirrorless lens along the way. Of course now 90D seems to all be in backorders status and makes me wonder if they'll be back once this pandemic stuff get controlled that maybe they'll be manufactured to restock them or maybe not and mirrorless may be our only choice now. So waiting and watching to see what happens and which way I will go when things kinda of get back to a norm hopefully in the coming year.
    Also looking forward to you testing R5 on wildlife as I've been reading and watching your videos on shooting wildlife as big fan and though no where near where I need to be after watching Tony and you in the previous video on learning I'm going to work on coming up with a learning plan on basics and then moving along making sure I get the basics that when I do start shooting more and more I get those great shots as I should. Though I do have that habit of watching a video and getting it over fast that I can do it as you pointed out. But in the end you both agreed learning on TH-cam is not really the best way but does prove useful in its own ways.
    Be safe and can't wait till you shoot wildlife with R5 and hope you use the 70-200 as well as 600 though haven't check prices on it yet but bet it will be on the pricy side as well. Just may have to hope and pray maybe I can save up enough if I go the pricy way with mirrorless and hold off long in my plans and dreams of shooting photography and in the right way as well. 👼🌹🤗❤❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏

    I did wonder why they went with a 5 as essentially the flagship of their mirrorless lineup. Are they going to drop an R1? If not, are they doubling down on the "less bulky" thing, and thats why they dont give it the larger grip profile with greater battery of, say, the 1D? I feel like it would do much better with that massive extra bit, including cooling and battery. And maybe people won't like the size, but I'm the type to buy the battery grip anyway, so why not just integrate it?
