Great in depth review! I realized the dynamic range had improved in R5 but it is through this video that I have a better grasp of how far I can go in over & under exposing. Thanks!
Wow, what an awesome camera... & review! I use the 5 D4 professionally & was curious whether the R5 had it beat. Someday I may upgrade if I ever get back to events shooting when the pandemic ends.
I tested out the R5 three weeks ago. Nice camera. But being a DSLR user, I'm not used to the smaller chassis, the R5 doesn't feel like a full camera in the hands, and the controls a little too close to one another. I would prefer a larger chassis (the size of their regular DSLR) for better (personal) ergonomics, and also having a larger chassis would allow space for a larger battery to make up for the much lower shot capacity with each battery charge. It's hard to get used to getting only 300-400 shots per battery vs 1000 shots on a 5D.
One thing I have been studying lately and good to remember when using higher pixel density sensors, like the 45Mp in R5, is DLA effect. Like with the RF 600mm or 800mm f/11 lense on the R5 you don't get any more resolving power by adding a teleconverter. With R5 the DLA effect begins already at f/6,6 (airy disc 2x pixel diameter). But it's really hard to notice so the typical formula used gives a value of f/8,2 (airy disc 2,5x pixel diameter). It's typically considered that DLA takes "full effect" when the airy disc from the diffraction reach 3x pixel diameter - in the R5's case at f/9,8. Even though the "maximum" DLA value is f/9,8 there is no real harm in using f/11 lens. But for easier composition/viewing it's probably better to use the APS-C crop mode instead of adding a teleconverter. Please notice that these DLA numbers are totally different for R6. They are: f/9,8, f/12,4 and f/14,6. So with f/11 lens on R6 you could possibly get some additional resolving power by using a 1,4x TC. Here is a link to DLA calculator. You can use any camera model with correct sensor size and just type in the proper resolution. www.photopills.com/calculators/diffraction
That's true, which is why the F11 lenses strike me as, well, odd. The idea of sticking a TC on a lens with a maximum aperture of F11 already just seems wacky to me.
@@DustinAbbottTWI Yeah, and that 800mm has so long minimum focusing distance. So if it were 400mm f/5,6 instead it could be used in lower light and focus closer. And then, if so chosen, by adding 2x TC would result 800mm f/11 but still with closer minimum focusing distance.
I watched the R6 Definitive review which then led me to this one. Both are really informative. I can’t really see the R6 as a natural upgrade to the R, given the lower resolution so I guess I had better start saving for the much more expensive R5. I love the in camera crop mode and the autofocus looks such a huge step up from the R. Many thanks Dustin.
Thank you for taking the time for this great and detailed review, and also for making it easy to understand, even for a non-pro like me. I've been ogling this camera ever since its announcement (currently shoot Canon 5dm4) and your review definitely makes me want to take the leap, even though as a hobby photographer, I cannot really justify the expense. The 5R seems to bring a few things that have been on my "perfect camera wish list." I don't need this camera but sure do want it now. I look forward to watching more of your reviews. Thank you!
5DM4 is still and will always remain a beast of a camera. Capable to handle the most demanding of situations for most people. Trust me I have one and it still pays the bills.
I was waiting for this one. R5 amazing camera. Eye focus and tracking on Sony level. Animal eye focus is sick. Works on fish too. Canon is ahead now with that RF glass
@@samhartwig4640 Canon stated themselves that this is an 'A camera' that could be used in video productions....drop the ignorant statements. The R5 has serious problems with not only overheating but quality with numerous accounts of problem LCD screens, blackout issues and poor AF. Also, DR!
Congrats on another professional, unbiased review! Congrats to Canon for making such a well engineered camera. I thought you gave the right balance of perspective to what this camera can/can’t do. Yes it overheats in video, but stills are it’s main priority. If video was the priority, they Easily make it bigger and allow for external heat sinks. I have an SonyA7R3, not because I wanted a small Mirrorless, but because I Feel DSLR, has been taken as far as possible, but Mirrorless can offer so much more. I supported Sony, as without them, the big 2 would still be pushing DSLR. Sadly I doubt I will purchase the R5 as it’s high price and travel restrictions, mean I have an expensive camera to shoot the backyard. Maybe in a couple of years!
The a7RIV has even more resolution, obviously, but the EOS R5 is much cleaner on the ISO range. For me the Canon's resolution is at a sweet spot, and I prefer its ergonomics and focus/tracking abilities.
Same here. I have a RIV and Switched to the r5 ❤️ nothing is bad on the Sony but for me More Things are usefully and ergonomic on the r5. And i like the focus square who is so smooth. I think the Display has a faster framerate against the RIV am i right dustin ?
Amazing review! Thank you for this very deep dive. I was very fortunate to get mine at launch, I can concur with everything you said. I also had the R, it was good, but feels like a preview system to the R(RF mount. This R5 is the benchmark for Canon, a great start of the mirrorless chapter for them!
Thank you Dustin you may be a little late to the party but a far better review and a review that not only talks about the "over heating" but about the camera . and that is what we all want it for . I've had the EOS R for a year now and looking forward to the R5 when the UK get Stock but in that time I have never used the video side LOL in fact I have only just set the setting for it just in case. and hearing the words "Impressed "from you make a big difference as you see so many cameras, so to be impressed shows us that Canon have done it right this time
FYI if you are looking for a combined L-bracket and grip extension for the R5, I took a risk and bought the Stabil LCR5. While I had never heard of the company and the finish isn't world class, the machining is great and it is actually a more secure fit than the SmallRig L-Bracket for the A7RIII that I believe you also use. The Stabil costs over $100 and comes from Vietnam, so value isn't as strong with SmallRig products, but I don't know of any other competing option with the same features and the increased security of its attachment makes it worth it.
Thank you for your video. I do not understand your comment on gimble . Do you mean that the EOS R 5 if with stabilized lenses we do not need to use gimbal? In terms of color Fidelity which one is better? the EOS R 5 or the Sony AR4 ? Thank you very much
Great review and thanks for all the time spent to make it. Happy you purchased one as I would like to see more on the field review now, usability, setting sensitivity, different scenarios,... and lens performances. I’m looking forward to your R system development
You always present an extremely professional, detailed review, thank you. To me the negative hype about the overheating is the belief that the R5 is a video camera. To me it is a stills camera that does some (impressive video). It flies in the face of logic to ask a camera with a very small form factor and weather (and thus thermal) sealing to dissipate the heat generated by high-resolution video. If videographers really want a video camera to use for extended periods, the newer EOS R5c seems like a much better bet, or an actual dedicated video camera. I had to smile at your comment about it being cooler in Canada - recent record temperatures experienced in my home province of BC and those of Alberta and Saskatchewan are showing that is not necessarily the case any more. I have a couple of R6 units and I love the low-light performance of these cameras, but I am likely going to reach for an R5 to get the extra resolution so I can crop for my wildlife shots. For me the IBIS+ILIS and focus-tracking are game changers.
What a great review; the colors in the video look outstanding, including the red on the chair hand rests and the foliage in background; Wow; I am also very pleased with my R5!!
Thanks to TH-cam suggestion, glad I found you and the best unbiased review, with clarity to the level that amateur/hobbyists as me can understand. Thank you and subscribed, looking forward to continue to see/hear from you.
I just realized Dustin I've enjoyed a ton of content from you over the years and never showed my appreciation. Thank you for your very thorough reviews and wish you continued success! Whenever your reviews come out I pay especial attention as I know it will be a fair shake and a detailed review. Ready to 'Marie Kondo' my Canon 5D MII (bless it and wish it well to the next owner) and have the Sony A1 on the radar. But I am curious what Canon comes out with next. In which case, I'll eagerly await that review from you. - Greg
in my opinion, yes! i got the R6 and the biggest difference in comparison to the R5 is the resolution. 20mp is enough for me :) But i dont shoot Birds where ive to crop a lot.
Resolution is a big distinguishing factor, obviously, but if you don't want/need the higher resolution, then the R6 is probably a great camera. I do intend to review it in the near future.
Finally back on the R5. Still own an a7r IV, but eventually it will probably be all canon. Love the colors of it. Will probably buy an 24-70 2.8 rf as an walkaround lens. Thanks for a great review, as always :)
Hey Dustin. Do you intend to get the canon r6 as well for a review and comparison? The r5 is above my means but I'm really interested in the r6, and a review from you is always appreciated. Thank you
It is designed to do dual writing. I would suspect peak performance would probably come to just CFE, but I do both and seem to get close to max performance.
Amazing review, and very much what I’ve found shooting this camera since the end of July. And being a Canon, it just works and feels good doing it. I’ve recently found its added new life into some of my older non-stabilized EF and EF-S lenses. One in particular is the Sigma 10-20 f3.5 crop lens. It’s a 16-35 equivalent in the crop mode on this camera, and using it in 4K with IBIS on this camera means I won’t be jumping to buy the RF15-35 soon.
@@DustinAbbottTWI You're killing me!! I thought you were looking to use that lens more, not sell it!?!?! ha ha. Thanks as always for the great reviews!!
I've used the Moza Air gimbals with some success. Just be sure to get something with a robust payload, as you're starting with well over 700g to begin with before adding a lens.
Great review, thank you. When shooting in (S,M,L) Raw what does the megapixel drop to in each as I’m not always in need of shoot L-raw all the time. Thanks again, Tom.
The EOS R5 actually doesn't give you MRaw or SRaw options. It only gives you a CRaw (Compressed Raw) alternative, which saves about 40% on average in storage space.
Dustin, thanks for a wonderful, full depth review of the R5. Like you said some vloggers just centre on 1 aspect of the camera, the video overheating, and flog it to death, forgetting that this is a photo camera first and a video camera second. If the want a video camera they should go look at the new Canon C70.
Amazing review, thank you Dustin! Will buy a R5 in the beginning of next year. Can you tell me please if there is the option to display the histogram in the electronic viewfinder (during a live preview).
When you have three dials on the body (presumably mapped to iso, aperture, shutter speed), what have you used the fourth control ring on the lens for? Wondering if it'd be worth it to buy the control ring EF adapter
I do understand your point, as with the EOS R, I found it more necessary as the third control ring. I suspect there's still something useful you could assign to it, but I haven't yet determined what will be most valuable to me.
@@DustinAbbottTWI In that case it probably makes more sense for me to save some money and get the cheap adapter. I've had difficulty thinking of a use for it and it sounds like we're in the same boat
A very thorough review and I was hoping you would do this camera as I've enjoyed your reviews in the past they've been valuable. I'm waiting for the UK prices to stabilise at the moment a bit too high £4200. I will probably end up with a grey market one after christmas. Thank you very much Dustin.
Thank you for the awesome review. Currently the Eos R is 2/3 EV brighter in Lightroom than the R5 at the same settings, so when lifting exposure during the dynamic range test, note that the R picture is much brighter and so it's normal to show more noise. Also when testing for highlight retention, it is normal for the R to clip sooner as it exposes brighter...
The EOS R is not 2/3rds of a stop brighter. It's not even 1/3rd stop. I actually found their results more similar than different. Both are considerably brighter than the Sony a7rIII that I used as a third data point.
3 ปีที่แล้ว
@@DustinAbbottTWI I must say, that it's not true. 37:19 EOS R at ISO 25600 (same shutter speed, aperture, lens) is at least 1/2 or maybe 2/3 EV brighter than R5 (just look at the clock or background). Many people have already noticed that both the EOS R5 and R6 have different exposure, and this way achieve better noise ratings for the same ISO (uneven exposure is also true for lower ISO). Don't you really see that?
How would you describe using it with manual lenses, such as the Otus? Love an indepth review about your experience using manual lenses with the R5 or R6. I'm curious if you can use focus assist functions through the digital view finder rather than the flip out screen...
The good news is that the R5 and R6 are now probably the best platforms for manual focus. The focus guide combined with great IBIS makes MF much more of a joy.
@@DustinAbbottTWI I thought so! Would love a video you demonstrating this, as many reviews seem to neglect manual lens enthusiast. It be also interesting to know how much better lenses such as the Otus perform on the R5, considering that its megapixels are almost medium format equivalent.
GREAT VIDEO with the comparisons of the different noise levels and even the Sony camera. I bought the R6 at first and now have the R5 as well and think the R5 may actually have better performance even at low light.
@@DustinAbbottTWI on paper the R6 should be 2x as good but the R5 has such fine noise grain because of the pixel count that the photo as a whole looks as good if not slightly cleaner.
Thanks Dustin for this grate review that make me think as sony shooter that canon fill the gap now. Do you know if it's possible to adapt sony fe lens on this canon R5?
Dpreview just added R5 to their Exposure Latitude Scene,i downloaded R5 and A7r4 booth 5 stops underexposed raw files,i never thought i will say this, but Canon has slightly better recovery at 5 stops than A7r4...pure monster, good job Canon !!Note that i downscaled a7r4 file to the R5 resolution and still Canon is cleaner.
Do you still get 180 raw with mechanical and 83 raw files with electronic shutter? I have r5 and get something like 49 in buffer!! Maybe memory card problem?!!
hi dustin , have you see or make the test to see if you had dead/hot pixels on your LCD or sensor of the R5, many reviews that I read people mentioned that they have those kind of pixel ( blue, red, green )
Hi Steve, I haven't seen any dead or hot pixels in either on my EOS R5 in normal operations. I don't try to do extreme tests to demonstrate a potential flaw that I'll never see in regular operation. What I care about is whether a camera will function properly in the various real world situations I put it in.

Some systems suit some people, and it’s important to shoot with something you enjoy
Best R5 review so far!
Thank you very much - it was a LOT of work.
Great in depth review! I realized the dynamic range had improved in R5 but it is through this video that I have a better grasp of how far I can go in over & under exposing. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Wow, what an awesome camera... & review! I use the 5 D4 professionally & was curious whether the R5 had it beat. Someday I may upgrade if I ever get back to events shooting when the pandemic ends.
I personally like it better.
Fastest click I made in life
That's very kind.
For me you are one of the trustworthy reviewers on TH-cam please as comparision add some Nikon z series camera and lenses
Hi Cem, sorry, but I don't do Nikon reviews. I just don't have time, desire, or money to add a fourth camera system.
That's interesting, as the EOS R5 is probably one of the largest FF mirrorless bodies in existence. It all depends on what you're used to!
Long waited review, thank you !As always Dustin Abbott best reviews in TH-cam,keep up the great work !
Thanks, will do!
Let me sit back for this epic Dustin review. Best on TH-cam.
Wow, thanks!
I bought the R5, and I think you will love it.
Best camera review on the net. Thanks Dustin, ordering one tomorrow.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you!
Hi Karin, glad that I helped out...or made your life more complicated...or something ;)
5DM4 is still and will always remain a beast of a camera. Capable to handle the most demanding of situations for most people. Trust me I have one and it still pays the bills.
Good things are worth waiting for. Both the camera and the review!
I know the camera is, but I'm glad you think the review was, too.
This is the best review I have ever watched. Great work. Thank you so much.
Wow - that's high praise!
I was waiting for this one. R5 amazing camera. Eye focus and tracking on Sony level. Animal eye focus is sick. Works on fish too. Canon is ahead now with that RF glass
I think you'll enjoy the review, then.
The Canon AF for video at least isn't that great; check out what others are saying about it...it can perform rather poorly in fact.
@@MichaelRichards983 roger. Buy a dedicated video camera. The is first a camera. Not a video camera. This is probably the best CAMERA out there.
@@samhartwig4640 Canon stated themselves that this is an 'A camera' that could be used in video productions....drop the ignorant statements.
The R5 has serious problems with not only overheating but quality with numerous accounts of problem LCD screens, blackout issues and poor AF. Also, DR!
@@MichaelRichards983 I have a great idea for u. Don’t buy it. Conversation over
Congrats on another professional, unbiased review!
Congrats to Canon for making such a well engineered camera.
I thought you gave the right balance of perspective to what this camera can/can’t do.
Yes it overheats in video, but stills are it’s main priority. If video was the priority, they
Easily make it bigger and allow for external heat sinks.
I have an SonyA7R3, not because I wanted a small Mirrorless, but because I
Feel DSLR, has been taken as far as possible, but Mirrorless can offer so much more.
I supported Sony, as without them, the big 2 would still be pushing DSLR.
Sadly I doubt I will purchase the R5 as it’s high price and travel restrictions,
mean I have an expensive camera to shoot the backyard.
Maybe in a couple of years!
Thanks for the feedback, and yes, it is expensive to switch systems.
Great review Dustin. Putting you on the spot do you prefer the Sony A7IV image or the R5, please?
That's a very good summation.
Thank you Dustin you may be a little late to the party but a far better review and a review that not only talks about the "over heating" but about the camera . and that is what we all want it for . I've had the EOS R for a year now and looking forward to the R5 when the UK get Stock but in that time I have never used the video side LOL in fact I have only just set the setting for it just in case.
and hearing the words "Impressed "from you make a big difference as you see so many cameras, so to be impressed shows us that Canon have done it right this time
It kind of drives me crazy that most TH-cam reviews tend to be obsessive over one thing that everyone gets worked up over
FYI if you are looking for a combined L-bracket and grip extension for the R5, I took a risk and bought the Stabil LCR5.
I actually have the L Bracket from Small Rig, but I don't give the side extension on them.
Thank you for your video. I do not understand your comment on gimble . Do you mean that the EOS R 5 if with stabilized lenses we do not need to use gimbal? In terms of color Fidelity which one is better? the EOS R 5 or the Sony AR4 ? Thank you very much
I mean that a gimbal continues to provide the smoothest footage in that kind of situation. I would say that I somewhat prefer the colors from the R5
I received my R5 on release day but have still been looking forward to watching your review. Great review as usual!
Thanks, Justin.
In your Opinion....are there any disadvantages in off- camera flash photography when using the R5 - compared to the 5D iii or iv? Thanks!
Not that I've seen.
@@DustinAbbottTWI Thank you
Great review and thanks for all the time spent to make it. Happy you purchased one as I would like to see more on the field review now, usability, setting sensitivity, different scenarios,... and lens performances. I’m looking forward to your R system development
It certainly does offer up opportunities for a lot of different angles.
I agree both at the R5 is an excellent camera and also that the early hype about overheating was certainly overstated
Great review Dustin!
Would you be able to advise if R5 is on par for
: autofocus performance / focusing spread vs Sony A9
: iso performance vs Sony A9
It really feels very similar in performance to the a9. That's very high praise for a camera that also has 45 Mpx of resolution!
What a great review. I just found your channel... subscribed !!!
I'm glad you did!
I’ve been so waiting for your definitive review!!! Tnx
You are so welcome!
Dustin, have you done any extended silent shutter work with the R5? Can we trust it in any environment? Is it comparable with the A9? Thanks
I haven't done a lot of silent shutter work with it, no. I don't see why you couldn't trust it, though.
Please suggest me which CFEXPRESS card do I get for the R5. Should I go with 128 or 256gb Sony CF and 128 gb v60 UHS-II Card ?
You also might want to check out this review and possibly save a bit of money: th-cam.com/video/4VZVbwIV_Lc/w-d-xo.html
What a great review; the colors in the video look outstanding, including the red on the chair hand rests and the foliage in background; Wow; I am also very pleased with my R5!!
Thanks for the feedback.
Question: The best is Canon R6 or Nikon Z7II ?
I haven't tested the Nikon (I don't test Nikon).
Thanks to TH-cam suggestion, glad I found you and the best unbiased review, with clarity to the level that amateur/hobbyists as me can understand. Thank you and subscribed, looking forward to continue to see/hear from you.
Welcome aboard!
Great review! Waiting for my R5 since 2 months already
Hope you enjoy it!
Always an honest review and detailed as usual. Well done Dustin.
I appreciate that!
Good to hear a real life review of this camera. I hope you will also do a review of the EOS R6 sometime soon. That one is a little more in my budget.
I'm hoping to get at that next month.
- Greg
Hi Greg, I like the Marie Kondo reference there. And yes, the Alpha 1 is "sparking joy" for me right now.
If you mainly are a still images shooter, no video, is EOS R6 a viable option vs R5?
in my opinion, yes! i got the R6 and the biggest difference in comparison to the R5 is the resolution. 20mp is enough for me :) But i dont shoot Birds where ive to crop a lot.
Resolution is a big distinguishing factor, obviously, but if you don't want/need the higher resolution, then the R6 is probably a great camera. I do intend to review it in the near future.
Excellent info. For being Definitive, I was looking for 1080p info. I just sold my R and waiting for my R5 to arrive.
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent review.
Thank you very much for all your time used to provide us with these.
Subscribed.
Thank you for your sub, and yes, reviews like this take a LOT of time.
Hi Dustin!! What about R5 vs 5dsr at 800 and 1600 iso? Big advantage for R5 or negligible?
Big advantage. The 5DsR definitely was showing noise by those values, while the R5 is essentially neutral.
The very best of camera reviews!!!Thank You...
Thank you very much!
Finally back on the R5. Still own an a7r IV, but eventually it will probably be all canon. Love the colors of it. Will probably buy an 24-70 2.8 rf as an walkaround lens. Thanks for a great review, as always :)
Glad to help out
Great job Dustin, keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
Hey Dustin. Do you intend to get the canon r6 as well for a review and comparison? The r5 is above my means but I'm really interested in the r6, and a review from you is always appreciated.
Thank you
I plan to cover the R6 in about a month.
Hi Dustin! Just wanna ask if what lens are you using on shooting this video?
Hi Jerome, if you'll go to the very end of the video, that information is always in the credits.
All of your videos are so helpful. Thanks I appreciate it!
Question, your audio is awesome. What microphone system do you use & edit with?
God bless.
Hi Denise, I use this wireless system: bhpho.to/3tNIdRV. I really like it. Very plug and play and good sound quality.
What did you film this episode with? Looks like something from Hollywood with incredible bokeh and clarity.
I used the Canon EOS R5 and the Canon RF 70-200L
Thank you Dustin for this deep review! As always you are very serious and that is much appreciated!
Btw, have you seen SecrID?
You're welcome for the review, and no, I haven't seen that.
Hi Dustin, I want to know if I write to both CFExpress and SD card at the same time, do I still get the maximum write speed on CFExpress.
thank you
It is designed to do dual writing. I would suspect peak performance would probably come to just CFE, but I do both and seem to get close to max performance.
@@DustinAbbottTWI thank you
Amazing review, and very much what I’ve found shooting this camera since the end of July.
I also have had the R since it came out, and the R5 aid a real nice pairing. They both work great with thebC100/200s I use at work.
That sounds about right. It is a great camera to actually use.
Curious to know if you were able to try your Zeiss Milvus 135mm f/2 on R5? Thoughts on IBIS and focus peaking with that combination?
Believe it or not, I found the Sony 135mm F1.8 GM a compelling enough lens that I sold the Milvus.
@@DustinAbbottTWI You're killing me!! I thought you were looking to use that lens more, not sell it!?!?! ha ha. Thanks as always for the great reviews!!
can you recommend a gimbal for R5. Thanks again for your excellent review
I've used the Moza Air gimbals with some success. Just be sure to get something with a robust payload, as you're starting with well over 700g to begin with before adding a lens.
@@DustinAbbottTWI Thank you for your quick reply.
Well Ronin just released the rsc2 you may wanna look into it :)
As ever, I very comprehensive and honest review. Very helpful. Thank you.

Great review, thank you.
When shooting in (S,M,L) Raw what does the megapixel drop to in each as I’m not always in need of shoot L-raw all the time.
Thanks again,
Tom.
The EOS R5 actually doesn't give you MRaw or SRaw options. It only gives you a CRaw (Compressed Raw) alternative, which saves about 40% on average in storage space.
@@DustinAbbottTWI Thanks very much.
Thanks, Ross. I just find that many reviews tend to get obessive.
Amazing review, thank you Dustin! Will buy a R5 in the beginning of next year. Can you tell me please if there is the option to display the histogram in the electronic viewfinder (during a live preview).
Yes there is.
@@DustinAbbottTWI Perfect! Thank you!
Excellent review Dustin as always , many thanks.

fantastic review and i am looking forward to receive my R5 body

Hmm wondering if I should wait for the R5 S 100mp for landscape and the R7 for wildlife.
Unfortunately you are talking about cameras that are basically theoretical at this point, so I find it hard to make a recommendation based on that.
Best camera for still shots right now? I do a lot of street photography with sneakers
This camera definitely has one of the best autofocus systems in the business...it's my favorite overall.
When you have three dials on the body (presumably mapped to iso, aperture, shutter speed), what have you used the fourth control ring on the lens for? Wondering if it'd be worth it to buy the control ring EF adapter
I use it to change focusing type. Face detect, etc.
Are you getting a Z7 II in for review?
I'm afraid I don't do Nikon reviews. I simply don't have the time or inclination to add a fourth system.
@@DustinAbbottTWI Disappointing, but understandable of course.
A very thorough review and I was hoping you would do this camera as I've enjoyed your reviews in the past they've been valuable. I'm waiting for the UK prices to stabilise at the moment a bit too high £4200. I will probably end up with a grey market one after christmas. Thank you very much Dustin.
That's always a problem with new releases. It takes market forces putting pressure on them a bit before prices start to drift down.
That would be pretty amazing.
@@DustinAbbottTWI on paper the R6 should be 2x as good but the R5 has such fine noise grain because of the pixel count that the photo as a whole looks as good if not slightly cleaner.
fantastic review once again Dustin, thank you.
My pleasure!
Thanks Dustin for this grate review that make me think as sony shooter that canon fill the gap now. Do you know if it's possible to adapt sony fe lens on this canon R5?
Best thing is the raw size choice and in camera double exposure!
I'm not aware of any way to adapt Sony FE lenses.
@@DustinAbbottTWI thanks 🙏

Interesting. Canon has done a great job here.
The always-informative review from DA 🤙. Do you plan to do something similar on the EOS R6? Thanks for our detailed reviews.
I'm working on it right now.
Do you still get 180 raw with mechanical and 83 raw files with electronic shutter? I have r5 and get something like 49 in buffer!! Maybe memory card problem?!!
It could be a memory card problem, as I definitely tested with electronic shutter (the only way to get the 20 FPS)
Hi, was this filmed in 4kHQ?
I believe that it was.
The canon 5D mark 4 is still my dream camera.
Interesting. I find the EOS R5 to be a better camera by every metric I can think of.
@@DustinAbbottTWI I will get that R5 just waiting for overtime to come back. Covid slashed my salary pretty deep.
hi dustin , have you see or make the test to see if you had dead/hot pixels on your LCD or sensor of the R5, many reviews that I read people mentioned that they have those kind of pixel ( blue, red, green )
Hi Steve, I haven't seen any dead or hot pixels in either on my EOS R5 in normal operations. I don't try to do extreme tests to demonstrate a potential flaw that I'll never see in regular operation. What I care about is whether a camera will function properly in the various real world situations I put it in.
The king is back. Long live the king! And their 1.2 glass! Haha
And now they need to flesh out their system with more affordable options...and third party development is desperately needed!
