Warriors of the Deep with New VFX (updated version) (Classic Doctor Who)

0:12 - I felt there needed to be an external shot of the TARDIS here, partly because there are so few during this period, but mainly to illustrate that it is in orbit around a familiar looking Earth. I did this shot again from scratch this time using real footage of the Earth and the same TARDIS animation from the DVD documentary I used in Resurrection.
0:19 - For the closer shots of Sentinel Six on the scanner I stabilised the movement of the model and added the same distant shot of Earth
0:35 - My original replacement effect for this shot was too similar to the effect I used for the Sea Devil weapons so I did it again from scratch
0:38 - I added some more shake to the TARDIS interior to marry it up with the following shot of the ship tumbling to Earth, which I also did again from scratch using more real footage of Earth
0:54 - I made some changes to the energy beams from the base and also added more effects to the Silurian vessel to show that it is somehow absorbing the shots and deflecting the energy back at the base
0:58 - You know, it's easy to laugh at the Myrka and those rubber doors. Well, it is. Unfortunately I'm not anywhere close to being skilled enough to even attempt to fix Dobbin the pantomime horse and his rubber toys, but I did add some extra sound effects to make it at least sound like the doors are made of metal.
1:35 - I reused the same laser effects I previously did for this story, but in the year since I originally did the them I've learned much more about how to give the effects a bit more presence and impact, so applied these additional techniques to spruce it up a bit
2:18 - At first I didn't add much to the dish weapon thing, other than some extra glow, as it didn't seem to need much enhancing. But I played around with some ideas and eventually added some rings and energy flow to make it seem a bit more lethal. I also added some glow to the body of the machine itself.
2:29 - For the infamous Myrka fight I left in the re-edit I did the first time around and reanimated the electric shock effect.
2:39 - At the end of this scene, Turlough aims his weapon to fire but no sound effect was added so it's not clear that he actually shoots. So, as I had originally, I added both a VFX and sound effect to show him shooting at the invaders.
2:54 - For the Myrka's death scene I again added some new beam effects coming from the dish, and also some extra afterglow to the creature's body as it dies.
3:27 - I've no idea what's supposed to be happening to Nilson's eyes in this scene, but, along with the new dish-ray effects, I added a bit more to it.
3:50 - Poor Preston doesn't get a single shot off in the original, so I turned this into more of a two-way battle since there's such a long pause between her first taking aim and eventually being taken down by the Sea Devil. At first I was going to have her shots actually find their target, but the direction of the rifle's aim is so clearly off its mark it would have looked too forced. So she's just a bad shot, unfortunately. But at least she made an effort!
3:55 - I completely missed this shot of Turlough blasting the defenceless Silurian the first time round. So fixed that. Bit merciless isn't he?
4:00 - Again, I didn't touch this effect the first time round, probably because I was far more interested in doing the shooty bits and hadn't learned various techniques of masking off the original effects. In this case I just looped the previous few seconds backwards and forwards a couple of times and put the new effects over the top.

Anyone who manages to make Warriors of the Deep feel even slightly more dynamic has my respect! 😄👌

Ah, Warriors of the Deep. The story that needs the most VFX effects to make it look a bit more bearable. And this looks fantastic, especially that first shot. Looks brilliant! That re-edit of the infamous karate scene looks better too!
I actually call that _the _*_"Tribal Dancing"_*_ scene_ and I was not happy that it was cut!

This is fantastic stuff... The TARDIS in space, the Sentinel 6 attack, the TARDIS spiralling toward the sea... Can't praise this highly enough. Seriously well done.

Very impressed by the polish you put on this. It's still Warriors, with all its problems, but it's a definite improvement.
I do like how you made Turlough's little stumble at 3:08 look like he was barely flinching away from a laser blast, much more dynamic.

I feel like this is one which needs some major work to improve it, going beyond even Day of the Daleks changes. New colour grade, maybe replacing the mykra with CGI, adding moments to the attacks. Maybe then the story would finally get re-evaluated. That said, some brilliant new effects here
I think even just CGI to animate the Myrka's eyes, and some judicious editing (removing any of the shots with its full body on frame however possible), a colour grade, and somehow fixing some of the Sea Devil's wonky necks would really help the story get the reappraisal it deserves.

Yeah that would be really nice. But they need to do Invasion of the Dinosaurs first!!
This is really cool. Needless to say, it compares well with the rest of the updates. Actual energy bolts being fired _really_ makes the action pop compared to… Nothing. 😂 With an actual firefight going on, it gains a nice, Star Warsy feel.
As good as this special effect upgrade is renta mykra is the serious problem here. You would need Industrial Light and Magic level to salvage this turkey of a story to even make it watchable...
planning on doing any with Doctor Who Earthshock?
Maybe, but so far I've only been doing stories that don't already have new effects (except Five Doctors, but that barely counts!). The new effects for Earthshock are ok, although they never touched the Cybermen guns, which are tempting to do something with, although I've never figured out quite what!

I have to edit all my videos a lot to get them past the copyright bot! I make sure there's not too much dialog and make each clip either quite short or edited down. It's takes me hours of reediting and reuploading!
