Resurrection of the Daleks New Effects [REUPLOAD]

1984's Resurection of the Daleks is an absolute gem of a story. Theres just one glaring and very ovbious problem with it. There was no effects anywhere to be seen! Whether it was a lack of budget, or a lack of time as was always the case with Classic Doctor Who (or in many cases both) to finish the visual effects in the editing process, no one really knows. Through 90% of the story (bar a few instances where lasers are actually seen) there are both Dalek and Human guns heard and witnessed firing, but no lasers are actually visible!
What a pity that no DVD release of Resurection of the Daleks has actually been able to rectify this through the use of optional CGI Effects. A few years back this video was uploaded by a TH-cam User by the name of "Mightyoataking" who updated several scenes in Resurrection of the Daleks, but sadly after a few years of being avilable on TH-cam the video was taken down due to the fact the video artist went off to help work on the animated Doctor Who DVD "The Reighn of Terror". This meant due to various copyright reasons the uploader could not keep any previous Doctor Who work on his channel while working on an official BBC Doctor Who release.
Thankfully i was able to track down a copy of the original video. It isnt in the original resolution that was uploaded by the original user, but its at least viewable, and ive uploaded it here not only to let people enjoy his fantasic work, but to also show just how very badly Resurrection of the Daleks really really needs an optional CGI effect in a future release. Heres hoping and fingers crossed that who ever works on the season 21 Blu ray release lets Resurrection of the Daleks have that option!
Amongst the many things Resurrection messed up was the lack of effects or weapons discharge. Amateur or not, the fact effects exist now is a massive improvement.
Extraordinary! If only doctor who classics season 21 would make new cgi effects with classic original episodes.
They did with day of the daleks but considering that was a special edition I wonder if the budget for the season 21 box set could stretch to that

Give this guy a job doing this for the re-releases and they’d sell out almost instantly, those effects and Dalek voice improvements were epic.
The problem with making the Daleks shoot more often is that now they frequently miss...
I like to think that they don’t have targeting systems and are just trigger happy.
OMG I remember this thanks for digging it up. I do like most of these updated effects the original uploader made though I feel altering the daleks voices was unnecessary. I really hope this story gets a official new effects feature for the bluray of season 21.

@@OwenDWF yes I could understand if it was the dalek invasion of earth or revelation of the daleks, but the daleks voices in this story sound ok as they were on my watch
@@OwenDWF yes and if they do I hope it's better than the new effects for Planet of the Daleks I was pretty disappointed with the new effects on that Blu-ray release. I was hoping they'd add beam effects to the daleks and Thal guns and smoke and flames when the ship is destroyed. But all we got was the dalek army and dalek ship shots redone in CG -_-
Always a fan of Miller and Mills Dalek voices, particularly Royce Mills. The Revelation voices need changing however. In Invasion Earth the BBC basically lost their only ring modulator and found it right at the end of the last episode.
This is better than the redone BBC DVDs.
A shame resurrection hasnt had that option at all!

1.18K subscribers I really like the update effects especially for the Dalek Battle Cruiser. It needed more window detail in my opinion.

@@jamieolberding7731 blimey now your asking. I really like Power of the Daleks, Planet of the Daleks, and I also think Destiny of the Daleks is vastly underrated. I also really like Resurrection and Remebrance too. As for the new series Dalek and Into the Dalek are top notch
Oh my god, thank you! THANK YOU! I've been searching for this video for maybe 10 years now, I honestly thought I'd never see it again! I even tried contacting Otaking himself to see if he had a copy. So glad to finally see it after so long! The guy's Doctor Who Anime is also fantastic.
Seriously, the BBC should employ the person responsible for these updated effects: to do the whole of The Classic Era that is available on iPlayer.
Now THIS is what I'd love to see in Classic Who updated effects releases! Love how creative the original uploader got with it all, e.g. the holograms in Davros' lab, the flickering emergency lights in the ship, changing the framing of the ship model footage, etc.
And MASSIVE props to them for remembering to add in some sound effects aswell at 5:50 , because sound always gets neglected in the official releases, even though it's just as important as the visuals are in terms of making the show not look as cheap as it actually was.
Hope the VFX artists for the Collection boxsets see this and take some notes for how to think outside the box :D

Looks great. This episode still is haunting to me like Earthshock as it was as a kid watching. Good times in Doctor Who.

True story! When I was a small child, a "Likely Lad", in the 1960s in Lancaster, my family lived on Primrose Street. I recall an old lady a few doors down used to give me jam butties. She was called Mrs. Bewes! She was Rodney's Grandmother! 👍😂

I love the effects. It makes me wish for it to be in a special edition of Resurrection of the Daleks.
That was awesome. The blaster effects really added to the action. And the new Dalek voices sound more threatening than they originally did. Also the wee flourishes like the added screens and holograms made the whole production look far more expensive than it originally was. Dr Who blurays, give this guy a job!!!
Imo the main thing that *really* needs adding are the laser effects. The lack of these in the original serial is the only thing that lets it down IMO, I can live with everything else, but the lack of any visual effect with the lasers makes it look like schoolchildren playing with toy guns lol. The squirting cream when the Daleks get the virus still looks rude even with the new effect lol.

I wouldn't add green sparks to virus sufferers, but weapon blasts really add atmosphere!!
Also liking the vertical hold flicker on the Dalek transmission at the end...

This was brilliant well done 👍🏻, the only thing I’d say I prefer from the original is the Dalek voices I don’t think they needed any improvements, at least not to me but well done these visual effects are brilliant if I worked at the BBC I would hire you to fix the visual effects of classic series episodes too xx

This is absolutely brilliant!! , Even though I already own this on DVD I would buy it again with these effects added it's so much more dynamic!! Only thing I would do differently would be the cruiser attacking the prison station with something more like photon torpedoes being fired. This is excellent though. 👍
Damn, I really hope someone manages to make a full Special Edition release with these effects. Not even The BBC could do Resurrection justice like this.

I think they went a bit too far, it looks quite dated now. I think lasers should be straight lines, with glow and no full image effects like flashing lights or zoom blurs.
I agree with you on the full image effect stuff as that is a little bit jarring but apart from that its without a doubt what Resurrection of the Daleks needs

Yeah I haven't got a great amount of time or space to make stop motion videos these days and I only really make videos when I have a very good idea or something really inspirational hits me.
Fear not tho i plan to give things a shake up in a year or so when I move and have a bit more space to work on animations

The laser effects are too much. There too bright. It's like putting a flood light straight into the camera obscuring the scene. Effects should be like facial makeup, a little makes you look beautiful, to much makes you look like a bleach faced clown. If you want the laser beam to light the room, keep it in select arias like a glare on the Daleks, hitting the target & the light passing a wall or what ever may be close to the beam.
