    Which sealant is better, Turbo Poly Seal, Flex Seal, or Super Silicone Seal. See what I found and why one performs better than the other. I explain why one outperforms the other. It was a fantastic test that helped me understand what to look for.
    Watch this video to see how to use Turbo Poly Seal on Flashing - • FLAT ROOF LEAK REPAIR ...
    The one factor that sets Turbo Poly Seal and Super Silicone Seal apart from Flex Liquid or the Flex Spray is that Turbo Poly Seal And Super Silicone Seal come with polyester fleece. This polyester fleece makes these products super strong. Nothing can beat that combination.
    Turbo Poly Seal and Super Silicone Seals perform well on metal roofs, asphalt roofs, and cement.
    Super Silicone Seal is the best for use on EPDM Rubber roofs. This product will save you a lot of money. It is suitable for repairs and covering every seam to prevent the cover tape used on seams from deteriorating.
    Steps on how to use Turbo Poly Seal or Super Silicone Seal:
    1. Clean the surface from old caulking and tar where the repair is to be made
    2. Wipe thoroughly clean with a rag and Lacquer Thinners or Acetone, which can be bought at Home Depot.
    3. Mask off the area with masking tape, allowing about 2 inches on either side of the seam or crack
    4. Paint one thick coat between the masked-off areas
    5. Install the polyester fleece over the fresh coat of paint to cover the seam or crack 2 inches on each side
    6. Apply another layer over the polyester fleece
    7. Remove the masking tape after 10 minutes
    Paint a third coat of Super Silicone Seal before removing the masking tape.

    That's a very good no frills test but you need to use the mesh for all or it defeats the purpose of the comparison. The mesh you use is probably made from a polyester cloth. Have you ever tried polyester reusable cloth like Scotch brite reusable wipes? They are cheap and just as good if not better. You might want to test them immersed in your super silicon and turbo poly seal. You are lucky to have the Bergstromm brand available. Not every country has it.

    I just used the Turbo Poly Seal to repair, several patches on a 13,000 SF metal roof. Worked great and was tested a few days later with a large rain storm. No leaks, saved me tens of thousands of dollars, over a re-roof. I hope to get another 5-10 years, before doing a re-roof.

    Thank you for doing this test with the different products and showing us how these sealants perform. I've been very curious about Flex Seal, but now I know there are even better paint on sealants. The Bergstrom products with the fleece definitely adds the durability of incorporating fiber filaments to the bond under the stress of flexing. There may also be situations that warrant spraying, like if the shape of the area is very irregular although it would take several or even many coats to build it up. I bet one could certainly get some woven fiberglass sheet and use it with the Flex Seal if they couldn't find or afford the Super Silicone. This is definitely making me think about how to tackle some leak repairs. ***** I greatly appreciate you taking the time to make the videos and teaching us how to save money by doing easy repairs ourselves.

    Using the “ The right tool for the specific job and or product to fix it” is paramount. I have not personally used the product, but I would have used the FLEX tape and done a full double wrap providing a tighter, stronger, 360 degree circumstance providing structural integrity from all sides. Thanks for taking the time and effort required to produce the actual video review. I’m not insinuating I am correct and you are aren’t....I am simply providing the alternative on the PVC pipe test. Overall, You’ve produced the BEST FLEX TAPE / SPRAY VIDEO REVIEW I HAVE COME ACROSS. Very professional and courteous in your presentation.

    Interesting test results. I used Flex Seal with some woven fiberglass fabric to patch my leaking gutter 2 years ago, and it is still holding strong. I think it is time for Flex Seal to develop their own fleece/mesh fabric. It is standard practice to use fiberglass fabric to waterproof the shower with RedGuard, as it significantly improves the strength. I have not tried Turbo Poly Seal yet, but will definitely give it short for my next project. The only concern of Turbo Poly Seal is that it can not be used on EPDM rubber roof material.

    Commercial HVAC guy here. We left a RTU curb we cut in on a TPO roof sealed with only gorilla tape and got a call 18 months later claiming our RTU was leaking condensate to the interior. Possible but very unlikely as those rooftop packages are designed to be extremely leakproof (and we normally insist on curbs being roofed in before setting a unit but sometimes $$$ and warranty cancelation is motivational😁).
    The water inside the business below was due to the roofing company not completing ANY of their work and the apetape finally falling. IMO 18 months of Colorado weather endurance is impressive for duct tape performing roof duty.
    P.S. Someone in this video has nice legs ant it ain't you

    You will find with spray on products it is so thin in the can in order to make it through the orifice that multiple coats are required. Put one coat of Flex Seal on a sheet of glass and shine a light through it. You will be able to see the micro holes in the product which then requires multiple coats.
    I'm a painter and use many coatings. Any product in a aerosol can has massive amounts of 'thinners' in it to allow it to spray. Half of what comes in a spray can evaporates into the atmosphere, so you're paying for something that you're not keeping. A brush or roll coating leaves a thicker amount of dry mils as a result.

Holes are just for passing the wires into the container. Water will remain inside the container. Water is licking with these holes. From my understanding, any tape may not stick nicely as the surface is not plain like the bucket in your video. I need to wrap it around the wire and container. I have to take out the wires without damaging them after completing my experiment. I will reuse the wires, Which material will be best to use here? Please suggest.

      5) How much time do you have for curing (hardening) before use?

    Probably somebody else mentioned in the comments but a fair comparison would be to use the fleece on all the liquid products...and no fleece on all the liquid products. Would the flex seal and spray flex seal have failed if they were reinforced with the fleece? I am guessing probably not as the fleece created a monolithic situation giving the two that did use fleece much more strength...The ones that didn't fail probably both would have failed without the fleece also.

    • @FlatRoofDoctor
      @FlatRoofDoctor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I show a comparison as the product is sold. Why should I add a fleece to Flex Seal Liquid if they never sell it with it or mention it in their products? The comparison is how the product is advertised and not how I can enhance it to make it work better.

  • @mateji
    @mateji 2 ปีที่แล้ว

     @Flat Roof Doctor What about using the flex tape first and the flex seal liquid on top? Would the tape act like the fleece and the liquid protect it from the elements? I am considering as it is more affordable to repair a single 10 foot long seam.

    • @FlatRoofDoctor
      @FlatRoofDoctor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Flex Tape is Plastic with glue. Fleece is a Polyester Fabric that gets saturated with the liquid coating. You can't use Flex Seal Liquid over plastic tape, it will not work.

    The gorilla tape is a little better than the flex in my experience. That turbo poly is interesting because of the fleece tape stuff that goes between the applications. They recommend doing that for the others as well. The flex spray didn't work as mentioned.

    The fleece you use with the turbo moly and silicone... what is that fleece made of? Would like to see how the spray and liquid flex work with the fleece.

      It is a non woven polyester fabric that has been specially designed to work with Turbo Poly Seal and Super Silicone Seal

      The major difference between the materials are the fleece.Flex Seal products don't come with a fleece and makes it not work as well. Turbo Poly Seal and Super Silicone Seal comes with a specially formulated Polyester fleece that give it that added strength.

    I wouldn't put spray on a hole that big. The spray might work on smaller holes.

    Does the fleece come with the berg storm poly seal or do you have to buy it separately. What is the brand of the fleece and where do you buy it from. I live in Canada where it is much colder. Will the poly seal work for gutter leaks as well.

    • @FlatRoofDoctor
      @FlatRoofDoctor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Turbo Poly Seal works in all temperatures. The fleece comes with the Kit. Unfortunately, =they don't ship to Canada yet. It is a special Polyester fleece formulated for Turbo Poly Seal. I don't know of a similar product.

      The fleece is sold separately by Bergstromm so you do not have to buy the kit. Home Depot sell Henry fleeces, including polyester, and at much lower prices than Bergstromm, as well as Henry silicon sealants.

    looks like gorilla tape or flex tape first, then flex spray. The white application worked best but needed to be sanded down. Those tape worked magic considering hothing much was done but a bandaid lol

      Best to wait for a leak then make the repair. Or coat each seam inadvance as each section comes together.

    I wonder why you didn’t talk about the turbo Polly seal? You spent a lot of time talking on the failures but hardly on the sealant that worked. So I’m confused as to what was the most successful

    Try the last flex test again and use the fleece on the Flex Seal products.

    • @FlatRoofDoctor
      @FlatRoofDoctor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did the test according to every products specs. Why do you want to improve the product with another product? That is how it is sold.

    • @markpinther9296
      @markpinther9296 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Flat Roof Doctor : We are all aware of how it’s sold. You said yourself that the biggest difference is the fleece. Give them all the same fleece (not the tape) and try that flex test again and it will likely show the product you use all the time as superior. But it may not and I think that worries you a bit.

    To be fair, flex seal spray was used on a corner and given the pressure point is more conducive to subjectivity, I conclude is not a fair conclusion. I do not believe however, it is a product I would purchase.
