Then (2) how to see that info on a Garmin GPS or on an Iphone or lap top or just be able to read the GPS Lat Long

I have an Idea ! I don't know if it can work... but i imagine a small device made up of : a battery, a sim card and antennae(??) and the gps module. That can be activated by the receipt of a specific sms and can send back the coordinates via sms . I think of something that you could hide in the seatpost of a bike , or in the handlebar, and in case your bike is stolen you can just pinpoint the exact location of your bike. There are already similar devices but they cost too much for doing a simple job very poorly. So, I think , this would be a great kickstarter Idea or an even better Opensource Project. I love what you did in the video! and I can imagine hundreds of applications and I would love it very much if you considered to make it into a future video project! I' m ready to embark in an arduino adventure !!! p.s. The ones I found cheap I used a sim card but the sim people could not connect, saying that it must be on 2g and not available in my area. Any ideas of how I can perform this project under $50? Thanks

In his module data isnt sent anywhere. You can send it if you connect a sim card module and code your microchip to do the same as your ready to use device.

You can connect it to a mobile phone or a small sim card module and program it to send you gps data when requested via a message. Very cool.

Is there a way to separate the data? Ex. One variable to store longitude and another to store elevation?
There are libraries that can Parse the NMEA data. You can choose which data you want to use with parsers.
