Not a dumb question! The game's key art is used in lots of different places, with different aspect ratios etc. we make the image so it covers a super wide ratio (e.g. banner above social media), tall (e.g. for a vertical capsule on Steam), zoomed out (if we need to pan across in a video) and the default 16:9. Check out the dev log for more about Sammy's process making the image!
I, for one, appreciate you asking this question. As a solo dev I have struggled to keep adapting my key art to different formats. I'll have to develop a similar guide sheet for myself going forward.
