Just got mine on Saturday. Traded in my 2018 Jaguar XF Sportbrake. The GV80 Coupe is turning heads as much as the wagon did. Had a long intro session with my salesperson, but still have a lot to learn about the car. Watch the rear decklid in the garage. It raises VERY high.
Good looking car. Great video. The actual vehicle commentary is straight-forward with interesting exposition where appropriate and the overall video production is consistently well above par. Guess I'm saying, great job as usual.
7:02 hold up I didn’t realize this was a supercharger like…a supercharger! I thought it was marketing for a mild hybrid setup. Thats kinda cool honestly.
@thomaswattle9828 I have the first order where I live, but I did opt for the Matte gray. Hopefully it will arrive by the end of the month or September.
Aside from more color options I would like to see some more wheel options, maybe a bit more aggressiveness added to the hood to help the front end look event more sporty. Overall, this is beautiful and Genesis did a wonderful job
I love the style and overall finishes. I am definitely getting the Bering Blue exterior with Smoky Green and Vanilla Beige Interior. A nice tint on the windows and it's set the be perfect!
I remember being amazed a couple of years ago when looking at the GLE Coupe weighing in at about 5200 lbs. Now this Genesis is about the same weight. Why are these mid size SUV Coupe’s so darn heavy?
Value proposition for X6/GV80 style? Drove a Lexus SC400 for 25+yrs. Toward the end, surrounded by SUV's, I felt I was driving in a bathrub. Couldn't see a thing. A sedan was no solution. Add age & lowered flexibility for many who are in the market ... where a bit taller improces access? Cool! Then add style vs practicality. Floor size? Identical. # of times hauling 4' tall groceries or golf bags? Zero. Moving furniture? Daily rental! Get 90% of the "chocolate bar" and it's a good day!
I believe people would still buy sadans and coupes if the roads in a lot of states weren't so bad. I'm in New Jersey, and there's potholes everywhere, not to mention over exaggerated speed bumps.
finally a good logic on a turbo+supercharged engine. turbos used in low rpms, where they can make things fuel efficient, and the SC at the top for power and responsiveness.
Nice looking car. But... Could we get car companies to somehow quit putting super hi-gloss & polished aluminum/chrome, or faux of those bits all over reflective surfaces inside the cars? The instrument/ux screen looks ridiculous (at least on camera). I'm at the point that bang-for-buck I'm going to go back to cars. Wife has a decent SUV so the household has the 'ute base' covered so to speak. Can get nicer (IMO) Audi S/RS &/or BMW M cars for the price of this (or cheaper). To each his/her own & all that.
I am not a fan of a vehicle which is called a coupe but has four doors which is not a coupe which is a two door. However having said that, I think this is a really attractive 'coupe' much better than other manufacturers have produced. I would still go for the SUV version.
From someone who grew up on the Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.2L Turbo as a kid, I would take my adult money and FOMO finance the shit outta this thing after what I just heard about that supercharger plus for that price? Done thanks man 🤜🤛
The better comparison in price would be the Audi Q8. I still think Genesis is about $10K high in there price. I cannot wait to compare the ride and interior to my Q8.
Don’t usually like these but the gv80 has a droopy rear end to my eye and this seems to improve upon that. Of course like all of the other SUV “coupes” you pay more for less utility…..
Looks good, but there are issues: it's too expensive and, for some, the ick-factor of buying/servicing it at your local Hyundai dealership. Also, that engine is inefficient. I'd rather have the X5's B58 at this price point.
I'm still confused on why four door SUVs and sedans are called coupes these days. I have a stock 2016 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8. It's an actual two sports coupe car.
I think I need another primer on horsepower and torque. My 1992 (v1) Lexus SC400 had neither turbo(s) nor supercharger. Quoted at 200HP (v2 tuning was 250hp/260 torque), mine did 0-60 in under 7 sec all day long. This GV80 is a tick under 6sec, from reviews I've seen (with 400+ on both hp & torque), How can that be? *For ref 2024 BMW m40 base is 380-ish, likely understated, but still 5-ish sec! Seems GV80 should be a lot quicker! No? (Leaving room for Magma variant?)
It is a complex subject. Let's just say the Genesis has a weight problem and leave it there. Not an EV magnitude problem but coupe SUVs tend to have poundage.
Genesis lost me when they killed the g80 prestige trim in 2021 going from luxury to sport styling and the 2023 gv70 ditching interior colors and steering wheel. No fancy wood trim, no green and maroon interior 😢
Nice dubs! Could've used orange brake calipers to match the orange accents though. IMHO the Q8 is the best looking coupe truck, but Audi insists on beating the poor thing with the ugly stick.
@ParissaKhoury Actually, wait five years and it will cost nearly half of what you bought it for, ~40k USD. It is not a German car; it depreciates as slowly as a Lexus. Go search it up yourself.
Great review! Sadly, my 4 requests for you to review the 2025 X5 M60i with the Adaptive M Sport Suspension Professional never came true. I wanted to get your opinion compared to the X5MC.
I believe that location was just outside of River Falls and Trimbelle, Wisconsin . . . was trying to get away from the pouring rain in Minneapolis and St Paul . . .
Looks like another thirsty offering from the Genesis/ Hyundai/Kia manufacturers... And yeah I have driven and rented the GV80 the G80E and own a Hyundai... And honestly I have found lots of carry over between Genesis and Hyundai like parts of course but Genesis is more refined as a total package of course as it should be. ICE platform gas mileage is well lackluster IMO..
I think the biggest question is, how often is someone that is tall enough to be of concern actually riding in your backseat…? I mean, I don’t really know anyone who packs their car full of people over 6 foot basically ever maybe one to two times, every one to two years? I guess unless you have a family full of teenage boys or all over 6 foot…
$87,000 … ? At that altitude, I’d rather be flying a Porsche Macan. I’ve seen Genesis cars up close at dealers and auto shows. They are at first glance, very attractive, automobiles, even exciting you might say. But up close, under the fingertips and at closer inspection, you can see and feel the cost-cutting. I just don’t think the value is there.
Performance and efficiency are Genesis' biggest problems. Value is sliding down the scale, as an attribute, as the prices climb up into true luxury territory. Sorry, no anecdotal vouching to offer. Genesis is still a rising star, imo.
Nope. They serve different purposes. One provides low end boost while the turbos spool up. Not the first mousetrap like it but this one add that 48V system to prespool the supercharger in order to make extra power from very low in the power band.
I like it but the engine is underpowered. Fords smaller 3.0 liter TT V6 makes 400 hp and more torque, without the electric supercharger, than this 3.5 TT V6 with the electric supercharger.
After 8 years it won’t be worth the hassle of replacing the engine, trans or electronics… that is if you can find a non Hyundai shop that can do a quality rebuild because you don’t want to go to Hyundai no matter what
if you can afford it, you can afford the gas. As much as said about owning BMW Mercedes & Audi . " If you can afford them you can afford the maintenance and up keep."
I agree, the days of taking "pride" in a guzzler are long gone, at least in my circle. The supercharger actually increased efficiency and power. That gives you an idea how far they still could go to improve ICE mpg. I think they are just going EV and won't bother.

@@LexxLuther100 No, there is no rear wiper on the coupe. I just took one out for a drive today.
It gives you the digital rearview mirror. You can just rely on that until it breaks

I remember being amazed a couple of years ago when looking at the GLE Coupe weighing in at about 5200 lbs. Now this Genesis is about the same weight. Why are these mid size SUV Coupe’s so darn heavy?
Cost weight for all the tech and comfort
Start with a heavy mid-sized SUV and trim the roof and...voila, a heavy fake coupe with less room.

One of the few times that it feels like a vehicle is actually worth the money in today's market.
I’m lukewarm on “coupe” SUVs, but BMW and MB could learn a lot from Porsche Cayenne GT and this GV80 coupe, from a design perspective.
The most comfortable luxury car
the GV80 coupe is super nice! I hope they have great incentives and deals! these will be amazing CPO vehicles to be honest! at MSRP not worth it
True. Buying a certified used Genesis is the best way to go. I got a top trim G70 with 10K miles for $15K less than new. 👍
I believe people would still buy sadans and coupes if the roads in a lot of states weren't so bad. I'm in New Jersey, and there's potholes everywhere, not to mention over exaggerated speed bumps.
From what I see, it’s the entire country. My friends from Europe can’t believe the poor conditions of our roads.

The steering wheel alone is much better than the wheel in the regular SUV.
