- This is a potential layout of the high-volume semi factory rapidly being built. The prototype line runs east to west at the 550 Milan building which is ~500' wide.
I drew in lines on my last drone shot showing how 18 lines could be accomodated within these dimensions. Thes lines would meet in the middle where there is a wider gap between posts.
In order to produce 50K per year each line would have to build about 55 per week.

I have no idea... It could also be that Tesla will use the unboxed method, so several smaller production lines to assemble modules and then into the main production line to assemble the modules into the final product.
The factory will probably also house a paint shop, a stamping shop, a plastick molding shop, an electric motor manufacturing shop, battery pack shop, transmission shop, etc, etc. If this factory gets 3 or 4 floors, this is not out of the ordinary, space enough!
Anyhow, at this point in time it is impossible to say how it will be layed out, my guess is the unboxed method is the most suitable for this relative small scale Semi manufacturing. (Car manufacturing will be 100x larger! 50K versus 5000K)
This! The idea that there are going to be more than a few actual assembly/production lines is nuts. You can always run a night shift if you need to increase production instead of doubling or quadrupling the equipment needed for each production line. Automation will give you the 'high volume' not the number of lines.
I agree - it makes no sense now to tey to decipher the layout of individual production lines when you don't even know if they're going to be lines or unboxing stations. The only effect such speculation will bring to Zane is derision of he isn't 100% correct. Which nobody could be at this point. So I've no idea why he tries to guess it now, especially when we might have several story building and within it all sorts of forks and detours up, down, or left/right.

You're approaching this with the wrong mindset. The high-volume manufacturing process is likely to differ significantly in terms of geometry and layout from the prototype line at the current Giga Nevada facility. The prototype line was designed to produce a limited number of vehicles, allowing Tesla to validate the technology before investing in a high-volume production facility. When planning for 50,000 vehicles per year, it's crucial to ensure the production setup is optimal.
I suspect this new facility will be similar to the one in Lathrop, featuring two production lines. The focus will be on building and ramping up the first line before installing equipment for the second. This approach allows for adjustments to the line and processes before scaling up to full production.
You may be right. I am just extrapolating what the prototype line does and assuming they get tier one suppliers since volumes will make it profitable for the top suppliers versus now they are getting lower echelon suppliers. Trust me, getting decent quality has been a challenge so far. I will adust my thinking when I see stamping presses or evidence of them. Thanks for the comment b

It would be interesting to see a video of the current small scale facility and a walk through with someone to ask a few questions , similar to Everyday Astronauts walk through at Starbase. It might just be worth asking.
I think they are not done drilling the holes for the footers yet. So far, they have only
drilled holes in 1/2 of the footprint that has been cleared and leveled. They would
not have wasted their time and Elons $$ clearing & leveling half again as much
footprint as they needed just for grins and giggles. Im sure they have a plan for it SO
that would make the new factory TWICE as large as the current area when the footer
holes have been drilled. Oh, BABY! This is gonna be one helluva big ass building!!

How I gauge the size of the building AND progress. The cleared building footprint is rectangulat. it has a short side & a long side. They have fininshed drilling
all the way across the short side. It has 19 columns. The long side, so far, has 16 columns, but they are still digging so the 16 number will yet increase as the
19 number will not. It appears from a distance that they have dug columns across approx half of the footprint so expect to see 32 or 35 columns for the total building. Keep you eye on the 16.

I’m not remotely qualified to know anything about this, but I’d be expecting them to be operating on the same principles that they use in the cars.
That being in house manufacturing of many components, and therefore much factory space is going to be taken up by presses, battery pack assembly, motor assembly, seats, suspension unit assembly etc etc.
I’d be surprised if they had more than a handful of actual assembly lines.
But what do I know? About 10% or nothing! 😂
Patterns of the footers don’t repeat in either direction. Larger footers means bigger loads presumably from large equipment. So to me it looks like separate areas for component manufacturing and assembly. So unless we can understand what equipment goes where it’s difficult at best to draw conclusions.
Agreed, but we can still try to make some educated guesses. I also noticed the larger footings and what that tells us. I specifically am looking for a pattern for bridge crane support. I am currently assuming that most parts will be supplier provided. Over time I expect them to produce more and more of their own parts but probbaly never heavy-duty standard semi parts like axles, maincases, springs, etc. The more I think of it, it would make sense to at-lease stamp their own cab and doors.

The bigger footings nearby in this video makes no sense for a bridge crane, so must be for something else, Could be footings for heavy robots.

Do we know anything about what support functions that are needed and how much room that would take? Some support functions I guess is elsewhere. But what about the seats? The body panels? Motor and gear fittings? I have no idea just guessing mostly.
I think half is assembly. The other half is battery production... Or maybe component manufacturing.
