One with more range would be great for camper conversions.

I was contemplating this option but the regular base van starts from EUR 32k, while the E-Transit van starts from EUR 60k, both for the Trend trim. That's prohibitively expensive (and that's the price of the 64 kWh one) not to mention that it doesn't come with AWD nor with the Trail package, both of which would be important for at least half of the campervan world. You also lose the ability to use a gas/diesel heater which complicated things even futher (you would need space for an LPG/propane tank and a full caravan heater). Sure, there are some benefits but I think efficiency would be abysmal when loaded (and possibly towing) so the fuel cost savings would be minimal, if any. And you would have to stop to re-charge every 100 miles on the highway.

Ford needs to do what the leading car manufacturers are doing. They need to build an EV only Transit on an EV chassis with structural batteries, thus have a practical range and weight. And the charge speed needs to be much higher, this is a commercial vehicle and time is money.

As a nitpick: SAE J3400 (NACS) allows up to 277V AC L2 charging - this may not seem like much, but it will make it much simpler and cheaper to install L2 chargers at commercial, industrial and dense residential locations which usually have power coming from the grid at 480V/3 phase. Any single phase to neutral is 277V, so you can hook in directly. Dropping to 208-240V requires the customer to operate one or more additional transformers - which often don't have much (if any) spare capacity even if the 480V/3phase does have plenty of capacity.

      Level 2 is 240 v 100 amp max 208 & 277 v is 3 phase.

    • @tomtxtx9617
      @tomtxtx9617 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@sparkysho-ze7nmAnd J3400/NACS specifically allows 277V. The car only sees one phase (one leg to neutral) - sure, it's tapped off a 3-phase supply, but that's irrelevant to the car. 208V L2 charging is already widely implemented. Just like 277, the car never sees the 208, it sees one leg and neutral (ie one phase) from the 3-phase supply. Username does not check out. Any "sparky" should have learned this way back as a helper.

We desperately want electric vans for our business, but none have the range we need. We have to drive gas and diesel machines. We have orders in for several Cybertrucks to haul custom trailers, but we really need an electric van with 300 mile range. Just nothing available yet. I would change my ICE Ford Transit vans to electric in a heartbeat. I just can't yet.

160 isn’t bad. It would be an acceptable, but just barely, range for an RV version since you’d be able to drive for 2h between charges. 2-3 hours is the typical time between stops in an RV. Bump it up to 200 miles and we’re good.

@ 1:13 , When Ford first introduced the Transit EV van, Ford’s webpage said its staff had conducted a comprehensive research as to the typical range needed by van owners. Ford concluded that about 75 miles range is typical, and hence, the 100 miles battery range is more than sufficient. On the other hand, the same van but powered by an ICE has a 27 gallon fuel tank giving the van about 350 miles range. Ford is either scamming you or its right hand doesn’t know what its left hand is doing. Very troubling.

Still not good enough for many fleets /vehicle operators. Charge speed is fine. Battery capacity needs to double again. We use E-350 or E-450, dully axle in the rear with an ambulance box on the back. Average truck does 150-175 miles per shift, and then goes right back out again for another shift. Vehicles have GVWR in the 12K lbs range.

A lot of vans do more than 200 miles in a normal working day. With that in mind, a minimum battery capacity of 100 kWh is more realistic for those drivers. Of course, if more White Van Drivers®drove within the speed limits, then that would help to improve driving range significantly...

Hopefully commercial EV’s will charge at their home base and not at public chargers. Here in the NewYork city area many ride share drivers are driving Tesla’s creating wait times at superchargers. It would not be good having a line of E-transits hogging all the Superchargers. There is a Tesla location in Brooklyn that has Magic Docks and there always shows a wait on my Tesla app.

It was originally only sold in Europe and Australia, then expanded to the whole world minus North America. Only in 2013 did they introduce them to North America replacing the Ford E-Series. Your claim they started production in 2014 sounds like you're only talking about it's introduction to USA and Canada.

    One more general thing:
Batteries do not get charged and discharged but charges are getting separated...and when people " speak of the batteries getting used and "discharge" it's just that the charges re-unite.
Today we still have a highly primitive form of charge separation - and it's notveven parallel but a sequential act. That's like not having a Gigapress but using a hammer to form the body of a vehicle.
Partially sequential we also brush out teeth. There were some attempts like the Amabrush to do it more parallel...but the dudes didn't continue to improve that.
In fact: all the money lies in doing things more parallel instead of doing it sequential.
The more parallel you achieve to create a product or give a service the more you will be an industry leader. It can even be as good as a sequentially generated product or service...but you can do more in the same time. Therefore you win.

Very nice but way to much for me. Id rather make my own vehicle at this point like an ebike with 1000km range that could tow a trailer with the same cubic capacity as this van and i could probably do it under 20k... Just ridiculousely priced but who am I to say? Im sure it cost them alot to built, but thats the problem, they should be aiming to build EV's cheap , the motors are simple compared to gas engines, sure the battery is expensive but thats should be the majority of the cost, Way to much on everything else it feels like we're being gouged for wanting to go green and not surprisingly its by companies who also sell gas cars so they wont ever try to make an EV for $10k, Why should clean transportaion be for the super rich or lifelong in debt? Ridiculous.

If 100 miles range and low capacity is good enough for 95% local delivery, why no gas van has smaller fuel tank and very small capacity edition? Because when you need it, you can do nothing. you have to buy another backup car. That is very expensive.

Yes pissed about MYLR DEPRECIATION could have bought 10mpg truck instead. One year it drops 20k so everyone is stuck unless you eat it. So how are the mfg going to help incentivize all the EV owners who are upside down. I read 80% of current Tesla owners are stuck with whatever model they got and will most likely not upgrade until they are closer to even. It looks like I'll own MYLR for 5 years plus before I can upgrade.

I would never buy an electric van that looks similar to the ICE version. i own a transit diesel that i bought used with a very low milage for 10000 euros 7 years ago. when i buy a electric van in the future, than it should look like a modern electric vehicle, hs a good range for a reasonable price. 55000-70000 euros is absurd.

There is also a tendency in America to increasingly push back against EVs. China is an aggressively growing international competitor, with the Chinese government always on the Chinese side. America will adopt an ever- more aggressive stance right back. This is new.

Sam takes the manufacturer's blurb as gospel; I have warned him about it before, especially the tripe being pushed by the Chinese EV makers/CCP.
People who have actually done proper reviews and real life driving tests of EV vans report the range often reaches barely 40% of the claimed range; the same is true to an extent, of EVs, LOTS of manufacturers are making up range claims that the cars cannot get anywhere NEAR in real life.
It must be a total coincidence, that most of these manufacturers are the same ones implicated in "diesel-gate".
      Speaking as an EV enthusiast.

...an it is just the beginning. BEVs and autonomous driving as well as batteries are still in their baby shoes. What's already top notch is: the electric motors. But even they will improve.
I personally don't have a vehicle any more. Taxis, rent-a-car and public transport (which is the safest mode of transportation). Robotaxis will be the real disruption because they will lead to an overall shrinkage of vehicles on the streets and parked.
