My T-levels were below the floor and I was about to have a brain aneurysm waiting for this month's Porsche video. Jack laughing like a maniac made me a man again.
I was fortunate enough to be able to drive one of these at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta. Everything you said is absolutely true. I'm no expert driver, but this car feels like nothing else when you push it and inspires so much confidence because of how well set up it is. Not only that, but it feels so unbelievably special that, like you said, it's an experience that you will never forget. I highly recommend people go down to Atlanta and do that experience if you can afford it. If you love cars and love driving, it's worth every single penny.
I had the privilege to drive my neighbors' GT3 and we just took it out on local roads and the highway, and I felt like Tony Stark in 'the suit'. The car told you everything and gave you all the options and just did whatever you wanted. It never felt unbalanced or out of control. It just enhances the driver you are and teaches you to be better but doesn't punish you for your mistakes. To see the look on Mark's face is completely understandable. Great video guys!!!!
Zr1 will no doubt be a game changer…..but you gotta remember the GT3RS isn’t technically the top dog in the Porsche realm …..I think if released the GT2rs will put up a hell of a fight. The GT3rs is down 1.5 liters of displacement and down 152hp compared to the Z06/z07…..a GT2rs will undoubtedly come with much more power. Now cost per hp…..Chevy all day.
@@JoeJacksonGT3 The difference is not nearly as much as you think. They already lapped the GT3 and the Z06 on the same day, and the Z06 was a bit faster. What you are missing is the track conditions, on the previous test it was a 55 degree day which is very cold for race tires and makes a huge difference. So what you are seeing here is Porsche desperately wanting to be on the top of the leaderboard so badly, they show up with a full crew to perfectly dial in the most track focused and prepped car they could under ideal conditions. It kind of pathetic IMO.
I think Mark and I both were getting a bit choked up at this point. 9:50. You guys freaking rock. Thanks for just killing it on these videos. I’m so glad you get the reward of driving a car like this.
Yep! Getting choked up on a track day has happened to me without saying a word. There are many emotions to road racing or track days and oddly enough one of them is nearly shedding a tear after a great session or sprint on track.
I have a 991.2 GT3RS with MCS 3 ways, dundon aero package and AP racing brake kit.. I usually set laptimes within 1.5 seconds of a pro drivers lap... I was chasing a couple 992 RS' at a Porsche track day and the drivers were taking some less than ideal lines through corners and still driving away from me.. this car defies physics.. and I'm definitely getting one once the market stabilizes. great video fellas.
I like the structure of this video. Front loading with engineering in prior Porsche videos, I have been known to skip through. This way, I feel like after watching the crazy track segment, I am more curious as to how it achieved it, thus watching more of the way through the engineering portion. Arguably front loading the video, but at least here, it works.
I drove a rental 2018 991.2 GT3-RS on Joliet Autobahn North Track for three laps. It was (and I suspect will remain hereafter) some of the best 270 seconds of my life. Easily the best car I have ever driver. I prepped for the drive by driving in full simulation mode same track in PC Assetto Corsa with steering wheel and pedal set.
This a wonderful car and achievement masterpiece from Porsche that few enthusiasts will get to purchase and even fewer will enjoy. The majority of these will be driven to cars and coffee once a month and then flipped for profit, very few will see track days not dissimilar to the GT3. Nice to dream about and imagine for sure - in practice even if I could afford one they are hard or impossible to get.

The way that car turns in, the speed it carries in the corner, puts the power down throughout the corner and exit.....I never thought I would be able to see downforce but with the GT3 RS you can!!
The idea of the aero on the control arms is interesting. Instead of putting that force on the body, which is supported by the suspension, it's directly ON the suspension. That should help provide more force on the tires without working the suspension much harder.
great review. can totally support ur assessment. it is an epic car. i have a ferrari 488 challenge (factory race car) and the rs is very comparable. on street rubber much more fun to drive yet almost as quick. on like for like rubber the rs is quicker. the dynamic range of rs makes it a much more fun car to drive then a full blown race car. its hopeless on the public road. but anyone that critiques it on road is missing the point. it drives to and from track comfortably - which is all it is meant to do. well done porsche 👏👏👏

For brakes, the temperature they get to when they're under stress on the track is so great, a few degrees in ambient wouldn't change braking performance. The engine also wouldn't make much more power at cooler temperatures, so tire temperature is the real factor here. The Z06 at 27C ambient would definitely do a better time (~0.5 to 1 sec better) since those Cup2 R is optimal at 90C. Since the Z06 ran at 12C ambient (it's on the cold side for racing/tracking), the cooling factor while doing those speeds would be much greater than if ran at 27C ambient.

Its Porsche. They don't need to do anything. They are sold out.

Seeing that lap time, and then seeing #2 spot. Makes me very excited for ZR1 times in the next year.
Agreed, and the Zora is looking like it's going to essentially be GMs first hypercar!
2.3 seconds per lap is a lot of ground to make up, but given the HP of the ZR1, it should match or beat the 3RS' time and should surprise no one.
