- EDIT: With the release of 1.70 you can now bind +/- axes to the analog throttle I tested it with my throttle and it actually works. I'll leave this video up just in case that doesn't work for you though!
A few people have brought up that they've had difficulty getting their throttle to work properly with Arma 3 when flying jets. This video hopes to address that. This is how I was able to set up my axes in order to be able to use the full range of the physical throttle instead of just half. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions! I'll be happy to help as much as I can! Below is a more detailed explanation of why this happens:
With helicopters, you can map analog collective raise and collective lower. This tells the game with you go one way on your throttle to increase, and when you go the other way, decrease. The way jets are set up in controls is you only have an analog thrust option. No increase/decrease. Typically (and with my HOTAS), if you put an axis on here, the game will only read 50%+ on the physical axis. What I had to do to get it to work is modify my axis in the software to where the entire range is read as the X- axis.

Haha nothing wrong with movie maker it's what I'm using at the moment too. Trying to decide between Vegas or Premier.
+Imperator TFD I used to use premiere pro before it became CC and loved it. I think I'd probably go for Vegas though as for me it lets me bring in video files with multiple audio tracks. Unless Adobe updated premiere, that capability is lacking. My recording software allows me to record my mic to a separate audio track, but right now I can't use that feature. That alone would fix my audio troubles I keep having where my voice is really low compared to game audio.
You're lucky you've got that. I spent 30+ minutes last night recording a session on the new sensor stuff coming and it turned out crap because I couldn't get my mic audio at a loud enough volume compared to the game (even with game audio at almost mute levels.) Do you have any good mic recommendations as I just use my headset mic?
+Imperator TFD that's what I'm using right now, but check out Voice Meeter. It's the app I use to manage my levels (which you can adjust in real time). I have my mic boosted and my system audio dropped quite low. Setup was pretty straightforward too.

I can definitely do a quick guide on how I profile my X55. How I have it set up works pretty well for me I can fly completely without using the mouse or keyboard.

You can put X+ and X- on the same axis for fixed wind analog thrust, it will fix the 50% issue

What did you end up doing with the throttle #2?
In arma I only map one throttle but in other games you're able to map multiple throttle controls (DCS for example)
18:00 had to change my pants.
for a split second i really thought i was about to crash but luckily was able to regain control lol
i use the th hotas the 1600 one, it does fine reads the full range for both heli and plane.

I have joystick sensitivity issues and it bothers me especially in the yaw left and right in the joystick
Warthog is good, but I've heard Win WIng and Virble are very good as well.
I wish they would still improve the fixed wing flight model.
+LilJordanful same here, they had to make a choice between that or the sensor overhaul. Every vehicle can take advantage of the new sensors, so they went down that path.
Im having an issue with my X56 where my throttle is at 0% but my value is at 1000 and when im at 100% throttle the value is zero anyone have a fix for this or is it normal?
If you invert the axis either in the software or in game that should fix the issue!
My throttle in axis modification is inverted for some reason, throttling up takes it down to 0 and throttling down makes it 500, does anyone know a fix for this?
maybe you just need to recalibrate it? which hotas are you using?

Maybe the onyl video that shows the full setting... NO OTHER videos does it with this set... How can be people so unprecise? Not that everything needs to be said all the time but ... hell, it's important. Yet nobody does it. Please will u do one also on Choppers? Please!
I set up my choppers almost the exact same way, but I can definitely do an update! A lot has changed since I've made this video

Well I wouldnt say a ball and socket stick like the warthog Is or was exactly cream of the crop compared to multi axis gimbel systems like vkb and virpil have.

I'm still away from Arma at the moment, but if I remember correctly it is under the weapon controls for Targeting Camera.

It's usually the other way around! I've found jets to be easier than helicopters, what are you having trouble with?
My hotas isn't showing up on the list whatsoever, i know it works as steam big picture shows it, and the game controller is showing all the functions working, but the controller tab in arma 3 isn't showing it, i have a thustmaster t flight hotas x
Sometimes unplugging and plugging back in and relaunching Arma works

Arma 3 isn't a difficult game to set up really, 30 minutes and you should be fine building your own profile. That would probably be faster than searching for one pre made.

set first y+ and y- underneath in the throttle setting. Problem solved
I have mine setup this way. I barely move my throttle forward I get a tiny bit of thrust
mate, you got this all wrong... you need to map both the x- axis and the x+ axis to Thrust (Analogue). this will allow you to use the full range of your throttle. If you hover your mouse over the Thrust (Analogue), it should come up with a quick tip which says what I just said.
In the description and in other responses I've said that as of 1.70 it works like this. I left this up because to be honest not everyone can get +/- to work correctly and this is a good workaround.

Are you trying to map your mouse to free look? If you don't have TrackIR I recommend FaceTrack NoIR. It's only a few dollars but if you have an HD webcam it's a really good alternative to Track IR.
I bought a t16000 tm hotas but how do you freelook? With joystick?

Trackir is about $150 usd, but if you have a he webcam you can use FacetrackNoIR, which is free.

If you want headtracking, not really. If you have a hat switch free on your stick or throttle you could use that to look around though.
Hey so I can't get the throttle to start at 0

Weird. On my warthog it starts registering throttle from 0-100.
+gabravo2005 yea for some reason the rhino doesn't like to play nice. I tried mapping +/- axes and it still only read the top half. Even worse when I pulled the throttle all the way back engine power stopped at 50. Way I see it, it works now so don't touch it lol
gabravo2005 are you sure because my warthog only effects to actual throttle when throttle movement is at and past half. Did you set something up to change that in game or using the warthog programming software?
With the release of 1.70 I'm able to properly map the axes, try it again after updating your game! If it still doesn't work as intended, my guide should still help :)
I am running at 1.70 but is as mention above. I was hoping gabravo2005 would say how he got his warthog to register. Thinking he misunderstood that you were describing the throttle movement and when it starts registering. I have avoided doing the programming in the Thrustmaster software so far if I can accomplish in game the same thing. I may have to do it anyway.
MrGruug under thrust (analogue) I have it mapped with "throttle hotas stick z- axis" and throttle hotas z+ axis. I have my throttle all the way back and as soon as I push it forward it starts increasing. When the throttle is physically at 50 then my thrust is at 50

The software I'm using is the X55 H.U.D. software to program my hotas.

I don't have Apex so I can't say, how is it different?
Basically you know how you could slow down and then put it into Heli mode and land like a heli, well now it has some silly engine power system that if you bring the "revs" too low then the engine will stall causing the VTOL into a nose dive. Its just a lot more effort into trying to fly something that was already fine, how it was.
hmmm maybe I'll have to grab the Apex pack so I can experiment around with this one.
As the nose starts to dip you need to apply a small amount of thrust to re-gain control. Then you need to watch your descent speed from there.
The Buzzard does have a radar.
The Neophron and Wipeout are CAS related jets and are meant to find and destroy ground targets hence they have no radar. If you are in either of these two jets you must first be within IR sensor or Visual sensor range before you can 'lock' onto the target.
Tanks Fire Control System is significantly improved over the older version now as you simple point at your target, push the Lase button and you will get a near instant range. Not only that but it will also zero your cannon AND align it to accomodate target speed.
Like always, patches bring changes for the better and it's up to the players to learn these new changes and adjust to them. What you'll find is that with a bit of practice the jets are, in the hands of a good pilot, even deadlier than ever before.
If there's anything about the new patch in particular you're interested ask me and I'll be more than happy to explain how it all works (I spent 5+ weeks playing around with all this stuff in Dev before it's official release)
Just add both +- to throttle, it gives you full range.

+Frank.V Vids he means to map the + and - axes on your throttle to "analog throttle" under jet controls. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. As of 1.70 I'm able to do this but other users aren't having as much luck
Add both axis + and - (throttle up and down) to the analog throttle command.
This will add full range to HOTAS.
Did this last night and it worked.

my throttle only goes from 0% - 50% 100% it doesnt go up gradually it goes straight to those values, anyone know how to fix this. (i have a Thrustmaster T Flight Hotas X )
Sounds like somehow the axes are mapped as button presses and not truly analog axes. Check your software to make sure they're set up as such, the game should be reading them as analog inputs.
DreadwingOne I fixed the issue, I just uninstalled the drivers for my hotas and it somehow worked

Thanks for the feedback. I Went back and listened to the audio track, was there a specific point where the distortion popped up? Audio seemed reasonably clear to me.
DreadwingOne that is weird, for me, the audio was clear, but there was a constant sound of the rain machine like I linked
@ 2:28 you can here the static slow and get quieter, and spook back up when you talk next it could be a fan or something of the sort.
I see what you mean now. My mic isn't the best (I record on a headset) so what you're hearing is the background static being silenced by a noise gate. I'm hoping to upgrade my audio solution soon so hopefully future videos won't have that. Thanks!
