@@Samson-h6l I guess he didnt conquer his actual fear but he worked around it in different ways. I guess I was trying to say it didn't stop him from playing.... I started my journey with football following the likes of Gullit and Van Basten, and since have always had a soft spot for dutch players.... Bergkamp was just special no matter the club he was a player that made you want to watch that team...
@@football_icons And as magnificent as he was for Ajax, the team was actually better without him due to one of my other childhood heroes, the great Jari Litmanen.
@@Samson-h6l Jari was quality! Although I think at the time Bergkamp left, the Ajax accadamy had a number of youngster coming through. Patrick Kluivert, Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf and Edwin van der Sar just to name a few and the list goes on...
@@football_icons The de Boer twins and Reiziger too, plus one of the greatest players of all time (Rijkaard), another legend at the back (Blind), and prior to his horrific injury in 1996, Overmars had become the best winger in the world. At the time it was the best team I had seen, and only Pep's Barcelona was clearly superior, in my opinion. That is all the more remarkable given teams could only field three foreigners at the time.
