I learned to drive on that model tractor. My first real task in the field was to follow behind my Dad on his Super 88 while he was spring plowing with the Ford pulling a cultipacker to smash the larger clods before discing. I was eight years old and on top of the world. From the video it looks like it has a step-up which gives it a hi-lo range to every gear.
It was a pretty good little tractor. I ended up selling it the other day to a guy who’s going to use it so that’s good that it gets to be useful again.
I was a lucky winner of your free draw. When I was told it would cost me approximately $150. To receive it I had to turn it down. I doubt very much that the prize was worth that. Thnx anyway 👍👍
That was a scammer. Somebody used my logo and started commenting on things. I have since removed him and blocked him. If you win my giveaway I will let you know personally
That’s awesome buddy, about one out of 20 that I drag home works out like that but more often than not they take a lot more time and money to get them up and useable again
Those were the most incredible little tractors at the time! When you look at the competition in 1939 when they were introduced Electric start was standard and every other one it was an option and the same with the hydraulic system, The little ford was standard and was an option for everyone else and anyone that has ever changed from a mounted plow to mounted plows on an old Farmall knows that can be a 2 day job if it is just you . When I was a kid Dad had an F 12 with a mounted plow and a corndrill chain that lifted the plow by way of the rear axle and what they called a Bull wheel... I mounted all over the tractor and you would be working all day or two mounting it!! or dismounting it. Of course it had no starter or hydraulics either. Then when you put the cultivators on it was about the same way. Then we got the little Ford and 5 minutes and you had the plows on and 5 minutes the plows were off and the one row cultivator was on! WOW Now if you wanted to do some serious field work and put the 2 row on you had to spread the front axle and turn the rear wheels around to spread them. It did not take all that long. But it was a pain.
I have 3 Ford tractors, a early 44 2N, a 47 8N and a 57 640. There were some subtle differences in the 9N versus 2N, and both had serial numbers starting with "9N". The 8N brought a lot of improvements, including the 4 speed transmission and position control on the hydraulics, and putting both brake pedals on the right side, along with footrests instead of pegs. Brakes on all the N series Fords weren't that great, on any of them. That is a pretty decent 2N, especially considering the Sherman transmission. I'll hook up my trailer and head that way to load it up and get it away from all of those Olivers.
Not a big Ford guy but that's an awesome little tractor. Fix up what ever needs to be repaired, and whatever you do with it it's still going to be an awesome little tractor. 🙂👍
We had a 8n and a9n when I was a kid, The 9N has a 3 speed with the high lo speed and the 8N had the 4 speed. The 9N was dads loader tractor for years he replaced it with a 1550 and a1710 Oliver loader, We still have both. I remember feeding silage with the 9N when I was 10 or 11 It was easy for a kid to run except for no power steering lol.
Yeah I'm a Oliver nut we do got a 8 in Ford those were one of the most popular tractors back in the day that's all you ever seen in people's houses they were a good reliable tractor to use around the house and mow a few Acres until the Zero Turns came in and now you don't see him too often good video nice running sounds just like mine I think I need to put the whole exhaust on if you're going to do it that far you might as well put a pipe in a muffler on it too it ain't going to cost that much more LOL Ross thing about the 8n you can buy every single part for that tractor and have it at your house in a couple of days that's how popular they was
These little tractors used to bring a bunch like you said, there was a lot of them mowing people‘s yards. But as soon as those zero turns came out these tractors really dropped in price. They are still handy though
Great save! I put a few hours on a 2N moving snow, grew up on Olivers so had to get used to not having live hydraulics. Other than that, I thought it was a really handy and pleasant to operate little tractor. My brother just sold his 9N with Sherman overdrive. When he bought it, he had me come over and follow down the road to get an idea of its top speed in 3rd and overdrive. 22 mph with new rear tires. I'm guessing they would be a bit squirrly at that speed with such a short wheel base. Thanks for another great video!
That is impressive Ross!! I’m not necessarily a Ford tractor enthusiast, but that is sweet!! Good purchase!! The Sherman shift you pointed out….Is that like a high and low?
yes tires seem to do that i got some out that doing the same thing . iwas think you had 1955 like to see it in your collecting soon. it be a very good addition. i send you a picture of my first restore when done. it not oliver j.i case i thought i would find one of each and restore them. grew up on farm we had case .oliver and john deere always like the oliver and case mostly
Sweet little thing. However, I kept expecting the right front to fall off. I think it may need a new bearing. If you want to replace the hot rod steering wheel. Try a Model T wheel since you have a model T throttle!
I think you have several years put to gether, #1 the brake pedals are not correct #2 the front mount dis. is not correct for a 2n tractor but it runs just fine...
All 2Ns had the front mount distributor. The 8Ns made in 47-48 had it as well. I don’t know where you got your info but I’ve worked on a ton of these and all the 3 speed transmission tractors used pedals like these.
American Farmer they plant their seeds and they watch them grow into the food that feeds America. The farmer is the backbone of this country😊
So true! Thanks James!
If you start taking the tractor apart you will find that 11/16 is a popular size also.
Yeah, Ford must have borrowed that idea from his “friend” Harry Ferguson
Who doesn’t love the old ford tractors!?
They sold a ton of them that’s for sure!
nice little tractor

It is a step up. It moves right along in high.
Looks pretty good, has a lot of life left in it…👍

That sure will look slick rolling into Hooterville
All of those girls will pile out of the water tower and come runnin just to get a piece of me 🤣

@@rosstheoliverman I knew something was not right.
A scammer on the internet?? I cant believe it!!!
I was a "Winner!" As well. I didn't even call. when I checked the phone number, it was from Florida, and I was pretty sure Ross hadn't moved.
I like seeing old tractors come to life when they've been setting awhile
Me too! I just couldn’t stand to see this one become trash
That is a blessing
Seems like a good runner to me! A fountain haha!
Definitely too good to be yard art!
Hi Ross, something you might know is that the older 9n and 2n didn't have running boards
Its good to see another one saved from the slow boat to China ! Good Job Ross ! Bandit
Thanks Bandit!!!
That’s awesome buddy, about one out of 20 that I drag home works out like that but more often than not they take a lot more time and money to get them up and useable again
This was definitely a lucky buy!!!!
That's awesome that you got it so cheap and really didn't have to do virtually anything but the starter to get it going. Nice find!
Thanks Charlie!
I just watched this again…..Cool as all get out!! Nice save Ross!!
Thanks Donald!
At home we had a 981 select-o-speed with the Diesel engine. It was a fun tractor to drive.
Love my old NAA jubilee their the best little tractors
I have a Jubilee as well! They’re great little tractors!!

Yes they were quite an improvement over some tractors of the day and also very affordable. That’s why they sold so many
Great video
Thanks!

🤣🤣🤣 I actually ended up selling it to a guy who had one years ago. He was wanting one back again.
Wow . The other owner gave up to quick. But I’ve been there , maybe not a water fountain though .
Yeah that’s a new one on me, a fountain
Wow,what a lucky find for you
Thanks Doug!

I like all old tractors. I hate to see people throw them away when they still have life left.
You can never have to many Ford's Ross! Thats what I mainly use except for the other green you dont like . I have one of those too lol.
These little tractors of this size are just handy no matter what brand
My Dad’s cousin had a silver king that was known to pass model A’s with the baling wire hooked to the governor
I never realized they were that fast. That’s cool!
That’s awesome. I’m working on a 1948 8N. It’s cool see the old ones run and move again.
These are still handy little tractors even with their shortfalls. This one is just too good to become yard art

I buy coal from a guy who uses a Ford like this with a pipe frame loader. It’s not fancy but it sure is cute 😂
Ross, will you be doing any more videos on the “Hoyt-Clagwell 2N?
I might. It’s still around here so it’s very possible it will appear again!
The manifold gasket needs to be replaced. Looks OK!
Yes, it needed a lot of little things, but nothing major
That's great.. nice work.. keep it
Thanks Scott!
Lucky! Has to happen now and then. 👍👍

What is a Zero Turn ?
I think it would be a good crop tour/tractor drive machine unless you traded it on a silver king.then you have the ultimate in high speed touring
It definitely moves right along in high gear!
Beautiful absolutely beautiful mr R great tractor but you can trade that for a Farmall M
Why would I want to trade down like that? 🤣
Nice tractor. Some times you just step in it. We did a little farming with one of those.
It was just too good to see to go to the scrap yard
Great save!

Great to hear stories like that! Thanks for watching!
I suggest you keep it. Never know when you’ll need a spare.
Unfortunately someone needed it more than me and I sold it
Wonder what it would look like Oliver green
🤣 that would be interesting, except I ended up selling it this fall
That is impressive Ross!! I’m not necessarily a Ford tractor enthusiast, but that is sweet!! Good purchase!! The Sherman shift you pointed out….Is that like a high and low?
Yeah, it’s an additional range. It can pretty well double the value on those old fords
This one is just a high step up. They made another one that was a step down, and later they made one that was a combo that did both
@@rosstheoliverman so that NAA I learned on I’m pretty sure added 2 ranges to the existing 4 (12 speed.) what a shame😭
@@nellsonstout7001 Yeah, the NAA is when they came out with that combo unit
Thanks for the video Ross, I’ve never really been around any fords. What exactly does the Sherman transmission do?
It increases the speed by a bunch. You could also get one that lowered the speed. Later on they came out with one that had high and low in one unit
Hopefully you did not need the death wobble recovery kit. 😂
I had my Scooby Doo helmet on the whole time #preparedness
I rescued ford 700 with adearborn loder. If some one need a dearbon loader this one is for sale.
Hopefully someone will comment needing it. Thanks Lyle!
Why not repair the safety start Button? You can get run over with a standard ignition switch.
That button operates off of ground not power so it’s not simple. I don’t even own this anymore.
@@rosstheoliverman think of it this way. The person you sold it to canget run over and sue you.
Just because they are dumb.
@@susanvaughn741 yeah but I didn’t rig it up that way. It was that way when I got it. Plus he paid with cash so he didn’t buy it from me.
nice Ross easy fix. i waiting far you to start on that i think it is a 1955 that not run
I know, I’m waiting on trying to get around that too lol the tire went flat on it the other day so I guess it decided to just rest until I get to it
yes tires seem to do that i got some out that doing the same thing . iwas think you had 1955 like to see it in your collecting soon. it be a very good addition. i send you a picture of my first restore when done.
it not oliver j.i case i thought i would find one of each and restore them. grew up on farm we had case .oliver and john deere always like the oliver and case mostly
Just curious Ross, did you get this sold?
Yes I did.
We have a 2n. I don't think it would be safe to go down the highway in 3rd over the way it steers.
This one’s definitely a little sketchy. If I keep it I’ll probably have to work on the steering a little.
Nice tractor. Might be the easiest start up ever. Lol. Would have been a crying shame to junk it
I was really surprised it was that easy. I figured I just threw my money away on a starter
Buenas tardes, Que precio tiene esa marcha?
I’m not very good at translating, which thing are you wanting to know the price of?
Sweet little thing. However, I kept expecting the right front to fall off. I think it may need a new bearing.
If you want to replace the hot rod steering wheel. Try a Model T wheel since you have a model T throttle!
I’ve always kind of wanted one with a V8 conversion. But I’m quite capable of killing myself on something else 🤣🤣🤣
very funny into to the video. now you just need to dress up like Mr. Douglas did in Green Acres
🤣🤣🤣
I think you have several years put to gether, #1 the brake pedals are not correct #2 the front mount dis. is not correct for a 2n tractor but it runs just fine...
All 2Ns had the front mount distributor. The 8Ns made in 47-48 had it as well. I don’t know where you got your info but I’ve worked on a ton of these and all the 3 speed transmission tractors used pedals like these.
Ross there's a guy in Flordia that's scaming people using your channel. Made me think I was dealing with you and got me today.
Oh no! I saw on the other day and I blocked him and reported it. I figured that they would remove him. I saw he was using my artwork
“Stolen” !
