I really loved Norm MacDonald...it was the first time I ever cried when a celebrity died. I used to listen to him every morning on the train to work. I wish I had a chance to meet him ❤

I was lucky enough to get to meet him once. I went to a taping of his short-lived TV show called "Sports Show with Norm Macdonald" back in the day. As with any taped show, there are many pauses in filming for one reason or another, and on some of the more lengthy filming breaks that Norm wasn't personally involved with, he would invite random people from the audience to come up and put with him on his little putting green that he had right in front of his desk on the set. I was one of the lucky putters on the day that I went. My meeting with him was very brief, but I at least got to tell him how big of a fan of his comedy I've always been. He was very humble and appreciated my comment, and made sure to have a few quick words with everyone he invited on stage. That's my "I met Norm one time!" story. I will certainly never forget it :)

I'm a Mexican from a different generation than his. I was nowhere near knowing him, but I watched every piece of video and audio of him that I could find on the internet. I'm not particularly sensitive, but the day he died, I cried inconsolably, and I cried a few more times throughout that week. To this day, his final appearance on Letterman still makes me cry.

I saw Norm live, he was great for an hour but then he just rambled on forever, no real jokes or anything. He must've done close to 3 hours. We all just sat there and took it to the face. I had to piss so bad but I didn't want to miss anything. I think he knew we all had to piss and was trying to make us piss our pants, that was probably the real joke. RIP Norm, shine on you crazy diamond

I like Jeselnik and appreciate his admiration of Norm.
However, it depends very much on the type of battle he was fighting with Normie and what his motivations were.
I can imagine at the time - young and trying to prove himself - that Anthony was maybe not picking the right battles for the right reasons but that’s just an assumption.

I don't know Norm personally, but from what I've seen I get the feeling like he respected people who don't back down from what they believe way more than someone who would just kiss his ass because he was an idol of theirs. He may have even found whatever disagreements he and Jeselnik had to be annoying, but kowtowing and being spineless was probably less of a likeable trait.

Norm is probably the most authentic comedian I've ever come across. He couldve had fame and fortune but never compromised to please anyone. He was loyal and had some piccadillos but it helped add to his true character. Suffering through terminal cancer without telling anyone so they don't feel pity or detract from the laugh in any way is the ultimate testament to the art form.

Anthony catching a lot of heat lately but it really just comes down to how he views comedy. To him it's an art and therefore there is responsibility for the artist, as opposed to comedy being just a job or "silly". You can't really say there is a right or wrong perspective, since humor is so subjective BUT if you try to actually understand how Jeselnik perceives stand up, you would understand why he is criticizing comics that put out so much daily or weekly content that 98% of it is total dogshit brain rot.
I was fortunate enough to see him in November 2023, which was basically his current Netflix special and then some. He is a true professional and takes what he does seriously. It's ignorance that is making these Tom and Bert fan boys attack him in every comment section. He isn't jealous, he clearly just thinks people are taking advantage of the art form for the sake of money/face time and he disagrees with that approach.
He puts out a special every 4-5 years, (Bert has 4 in the period of Anthony's last 2) talks about retirement, is not obsessed with his podcast, stopped doing the roasts, which everyone wanted him to keep doing, and refuses to recycle topics. Compare that to the Roganshere comedians

Talk shows are weird people reacting with fake laughs fake etc to fake conversations. Hosts fake interests and bring up rewritten topics and set up comics to repeat old jokes he was trolling the host the audience and the platform overall. While simultaneously making old short jokes everyone knows and turning them into long stories where the punchlines are unpredictable or when the setup / wordplay is so funny the whole anticlimax distracts you and the punch line is exactly what you thought it was in the beginning 😂😂😂
