This is my first introduction to this channel, and I wanna take the time to compliment the interviewer on an amazing job, asking meaningful questions that offer more insight into the "real" person, or deeper psychological undertones of the artist in front of him. When written like that it's pretty bland, because that should be the job of any interviewer, but this one felt like it held a higher standard than most This is also pretty much my first proper insight into Anthony Jeselnik besides tv appearances here and there, but the whole thing captivated me. A moment that stood out was when Jeselnik is speaking of the artist he was once jealous of, and the interviewer asks why he withholds the name. Anthony says he'll tell him after the show if he wants to know, to which you instantly see and hear in the reaction that there was no desire for gossip on the interviewer's part. He wanted to understand if it was out of protection, or denial of satisfaction for the other person that made Jeselnik phrase it the way he did. For some reason that little touch was marvelous enough to make me write out this whole shlap of letters. Also went back to watch his Trump roast, my god he didn't suck up, he just literally insulted the guy to his core and walked off. You can look back and be proud of that given the current situation.

Now that I've seen it, I'm ok waiting again. It was good, but far from his best imo. His good jokes usually outweigh the bad ones, but not this time. First time I've heard him take cheap shots in a special as well. While it fits his stage persona and seems to reflect his real life feelings on the matter, it also hurts the flow and takes away from his act speaking for itself. And his decision to not include any crowd work (whether he even did any during filming or not) just because so many others are featuring it these days is just silly and seems a bit petty, considering it's been in his last 3. As a fan, a little taste of his quick wit sprinkled in is always a treat. It was missed this time around.
@kylelenertz5509 Been a while since I watched it tbh, and between it being his longest running and his comment about his cup could hold toothbrushes, which isn't crowd work but doesn't seem too scripted either, I misremembered. My bad. But that doesn't change my views on his new special. Him making a point to mention why no crowd work was included this time and perhaps that was why it was about 50 minutes long seems even more of an excuse now when FitMW was almost 15 minutes longer without any. And if you think I don't like a joke of his because I didn't understand it, you're sorely mistaken. It's all subjective. You liking the special more doesn't make my opinion any less valid. Perhaps you and I have just come to expect different things from him. And in the end, I'm still a fan. I just don't think Bones and All lived up to what I was hoping it would be.
I am only 8 minutes in, abd this is already one of my favorite Jeselnik interviews. Really getting into his thought processes when creating his character is amazing to listen to him talk about. Every time I say to myself “well, surely he’s not going to say something horrible THIS time…” I don’t know how he does it, he’s a magician. A dead baby magician.
I think Jeselnik’s comedy is one of the purest forms. If comedy is supposed to take your brain to places it doesn’t normally go, the best jokes are ones that are relatable, the punchline comes out of left field, and you laugh because your brain says at the same time “that’s crazy, and that’s so true.” But jeselnik isn’t going for relatable, he just wants to take your brain places it doesn’t usually go. And that’s the fun part.
I noticed you and Mark Normand tell jokes in a similar way. You guys always surprise me at the end of the joke always had a dark spin on it. You guys litterally brought me out of my depression so I literally owe you my sanity. So thanks to all you comics . It's the insight I think.

As a writer and stand-up, this is exactly how I've approached the industry for success. Realized journalists are a tight group, moved quickly from Satire to just jokes. Hilarious, wonder if Fallon is looking for a writer??? Lol. Great and informative podcast. Sucks Anthony doesn't want to do many podcasts.
It was so weird and disappointing because he is so much better than that. Instead of the usual brilliant stand-up, we got the equivalent of boomer Facebook rants.
@ agree. I think perhaps it’s that disconnect that can occur with having been so successful for so long, living in another world. Kinda like bands can hit a a level of success thing where they seem to only be able to write abt being famous etc.idk.
@@querying1979 yeah, that could be true. The continued focus on it for such a long time still reads as strange to me. The comedians crying the loudest about "cancel culture" or any small criticism they receive, are wiping their tears with $100 bills. They're the most successful comedians, yet cry that they're canceled because they told a shitty joke.
@surge8016 Tim was funny on podcast, but his stand up falls short. I bought tickets to his show and it's not the same as his podcast. His stand up is not as funny as his podcast. That's a fact that you can't deny. Tim is funny doing his podcast. Shane's stand up is more funny than Tim's stand up.
Othere have said this here, but his dragging of the TH-cam hacks is a chef's kiss. The fact that they're all reactionaries is one of the reasons on the DL, I'm guessing.
"My worlds collide" is exactly what I posted on the DLS Instagram when they announced it the other day. I'm just a little disappointed that this was recorded so long ago that Anthony didn't mention it in the latest JRVP pod.
It was George Carlin who said punching down wasn't always funny. Anthony is just saying a lot of comedians spend more time complaining about what would happen if they told a trans joke but can't even come up with a good trans joke that is funny. It's when you go so far right-wing that your entire stand-up bit is punching down, so much to the point where you're not making jokes. You're just throwing out insults. Kill Tony didn't make any good jokes about PR. They came just off insulting. It wasn't really funny, and the audience was taken aback by what he said.
I've always thought you can joke about anything, but if it's going to offend, it's got to be funny enough to be worth it. Just going 'don't Indian people smell?' or 'Don't trans people all look like a guy in a dress?' isn't enough. Unless you're only playing to idiots.
Him ripping into Chapelle's 8 year absolute hack era is what makes him as good as anyone going.. He's as dark as anyone but it sharp enough to realize the "wokeness killed comedy" clownshows are everything that's wrong with modern comedy. Rogan's embarrassing circus group could learn endless lessons from dude.
It wasn't a hack era. He was excellent. And his "trans" era is like 3 percent Trans jokes and everything else us about a bunch of other shit. The Trans jokes are just what people whined about.
@anthonyrowland9072 ummmm....what?!?! First of all, there definitely are. Secondly, the amount of memes or gifs you happen to have seen butchering someone's standup is not a barometer for how good their stand up. Thirdly, all his memes from the old days are from Chappelle's show not his stand up, and finally you are in a huge minority of comedy fans that think he's bad now, so feel free to your own opinion, just know it's backed up by nothing, but your personal feeleings.
@@anthonyrowland9072 Again... what's your point? Random people on the internet making or not making memes about people's stand-up, band, TV show or whatever else has nothing to do with whether something us good or not. That's about as logical of a rating metric as me saying Michael Jordan doesn't have any Michelin Stars.
Jeselnik cares about the stand up comedy, as he calls it an art form. The comics largely doing crowd work as part of their act is what he thinks is also hacky with and a way to get cheap laughs. Stavros, Matt Rife to name a few who basically release specials of just crowd work. Being quick on their feet to react to the crowd's stories but not the same as putting together a strong hour special.
Hands down one of the best interviews with a creator about their motivation, origin and perspective. Must-see viewing no matter which field you are in or trying to get your start in.
One of the best stand up movies is Richard Pryor's Live and Smokin'' at the Improb in New York. Pryor literally bombs through his whole set. The only time he has the audience is when he does his characters. His dedication at the beginning of the movie is: "To all those who try to make us laugh,"

I identified with most if not all of the processes he described. Two very articulate men. Excellent!
One of the best shows about comedy. And as a comedian I don’t think I would want to be around Anthony for more than 3 hrs.
"It takes a big man to cry. It takes a bigger man to laugh at that man." -Jack Handy
I think this is the BEST interview you have ever done. you asked great questions then got out of the way !!!!
I noticed you and Mark Normand tell jokes in a similar way. You guys always surprise me at the end of the joke always had a dark spin on it. You guys litterally brought me out of my depression so I literally owe you my sanity. So thanks to all you comics . It's the insight I think.
Props on this interview, Dan & Team. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I’m surprised he didn’t mention Jimmy Carr . He and Jimmy have a similar style and vibe.
What a great interview… I learned more about both of these guys in one interview than have actually listening tot hem both for years
I can’t believe you were able to get this in depth with Jeselnik!
What a great interview. Anthony is incredibly smart and special. Great tone and questions. This is a thinking person's interview. Jeselnik is truly 1 of 1. I'm a fan.
Jeslink coming after the jre universe
It's amazing how much a hairstyle can change the way someone looks. In the thumbnail I was like, "does Anthony come on later?"
Love this dude and his mindset
Lmao. This is the one I decide to watch. lol.
Good get! 👍 Jeselnik is one of the best, if not the best, out there. He & Dan share the motivation of being great at their craft and always trying to improve.
Really interesting interview, love him calling out the lazy culture these days. What a dedicated artist.
Anthony plugging JRVP, when he said on the last episode that they might call it quits haha
I watched Anthony's last 2 specials MORE than I've watched any other specials my entire life. I can't freakin wait until TOMORROW!!!
Hey Dan! I've literally watched like 4 of your interviews. And this is definitely the best one you've ever done!
What a great interview. Thanks. Always loved jeselnik
Fantastic interview. Probing. Serious. Props to both for delivering something incredibly meaningful.
Bert Kreisher is the biggest comic in the world?
This is hell.
Seriously... as Bill Hicks once said....we live in a world where the mediocre thrive and proliferate
Bart Krystal sucks
As in fattest.
Matt rife is bigger than Bert.
🤮🤮🤮 bart
Fantastic interview. Great chemistry and great honesty
Anthony sounds like a mix between John Mullaney, John malcovitch and Christopher Walken
Holy shit!!! How the hell did you articulate that and have it be so accurate 😂 Tim, I wish you a good day
The vowels are on a journey.
Yeah, I heard the Christopher Walken in there too.
Never watched one of these but I felt this one was a cant missed and I'm glad I watch good stuff!
Pointing out Dave's peculiar 10 year anti trans obsession was so on point. Dave derailed his entire intellectual standing.
I think Dave and a lot of other people just find it funny. And about half of all people don’t find it funny. It’s a joke that splits the crowd.
@@querying1979 yeah, that could be true. The continued focus on it for such a long time still reads as strange to me. The only other comic, off the top of my head, who focuses on one thing so much might be Gaffigan w food. I really associate Dave w surprising us, w really unique perspectives etc, and at this point I’m bored w it. Like making fun of fat ppl, kinda low hanging fruit. But, yeah, I see ur point
I do like Anthony's new Civil War look.
@@tripsclone His haircut is called the David Spade
Gen Custer
😂😂
Saw him on his last show in Europe. And thought he was sick at first. So pale and thin. Just the wear and tear of road life I guess.
@@mishrazz ...or the leftovers of a movie role?
I can’t believe this! My two favorites! Both of you are heroic!
Fantastic interview. Love Jeselnik. I saw him perform 12 years ago at a tiny club in L.A, and he absolutely killed.
Great interview. The more I see of this dude, the more I like him. Wishing him all the best and success for the future
Anthony’s Marc Maron transformation is nearly complete.
Yea he’s even matching his haircut. It’s ridiculous. His ego is so large it’s entertaining
Rogan has never been a funny comedian.
His last special was the perfect example, terrible
I saw his comedy special a couple of days ago. I love his dark humor.
The comedians crying the loudest about "cancel culture" or any small criticism they receive, are wiping their tears with $100 bills. They're the most successful comedians, yet cry that they're canceled because they told a shitty joke.
these were great questions - Thank you
Anthonys one joke netflix trailer is funnier than all of the roganverse
tim dillon & shane are beyond better then white guilt anthony.
Tim dillon???? I'll give you Shane, he's funny. But Tim dillon? Reevaluate your life man@@surge8016
"White guilt Anthony" you are a write off, buddy@surge8016
@surge8016 Tim was funny on podcast, but his stand up falls short. I bought tickets to his show and it's not the same as his podcast. His stand up is not as funny as his podcast. That's a fact that you can't deny. Tim is funny doing his podcast. Shane's stand up is more funny than Tim's stand up.
Tim got to chill with the snow
Great interview, appreciate it, good to know a niche artist's perspective as an aspiring niche artist lol
Leftist here loving his comedy, really cool that he stands up for what he believes, of course that lose him money.
What a brilliant interviewer. What a brilliant interviewee.
Coolest dude in comedy talking to the coolest dude in sports talk. Nice. 😊
very informative and insightful conversation, Jeselnik is a talent who will keep making great comedy!
Did Anthony recently rewatch Team America and then give it to his barber as a style guide?
Dan did one I couldn't resist watching
Othere have said this here, but his dragging of the TH-cam hacks is a chef's kiss. The fact that they're all reactionaries is one of the reasons on the DL, I'm guessing.
is jeselnik playing david spade in a movie?
My guy Anthony born. In
the Burg🎉 has always been smarter than most! , Iconic. Great interview DAN Thx😊
Worlds are colliding between some of my favorite media. It's a treasure to have the Jez open up like this. Thank you Dan.
Codecademy.
Codecademy.
"My worlds collide" is exactly what I posted on the DLS Instagram when they announced it the other day. I'm just a little disappointed that this was recorded so long ago that Anthony didn't mention it in the latest JRVP pod.
What an interview. He really nailed it at the end. 1:13:45 or so
It was George Carlin who said punching down wasn't always funny.
@@kylelenertz5509 There's no quotes, memes, gifs about any of his new material though.
Smoke voice Dave is mid.
@@kylelenertz5509 His old material had plenty of memes and gifs and it was often about the people he was making fun of...
Thank you Dan...You all truly have the best content..
Jeselnik ,louis ck and mitch hedberg top 3 O.A.T for me. I love being alone but have always for ed myself to be social because i felt i was doing something wrong wanting to be alone. I appriciate you Anthony for sharing
This is the first thing I can Remember watching
That I didn’t feel dumber after 🎉😊
