I have a Roku smart. The problem is if you have an antenna rotor. You can't manually scan for station. They guide is always messed up. I've complained to Roku about these issues. It'll like talking to deaf ears in their customer support. Roku engineers think everybody lives near a big city or in a strong signal area. They forgot about the people that live in the deepest fringe area of broadcast. In between three broadcast markets. In my area, people like the subchannel program more than the main networks. I hope Roku might fix this in the future. I doubt it. Antenna Man a very informative video thank for helpingthe OTA community.
@OswaldBatesIIIEsq I agree on that. I use the Roku app on my phone. Let's me type on a keyboard. But it still won't let you do a manual channel to enter to add a channel. I think they want you to spend extra for the voice-activated remote
The built in ota tuners on most TV's are poor at best. You almost have to feed the output of a good external converter box to an HDMI port to receive from multiple directions, I've found.
I don't have a Roku TV but as always, this video is very informative. I like the idea of incorporating OTA with streaming channels very much. I have to switch from my Roku to my OTA antenna input to watch antenna stuff.
It's also important to remember that Roku tvs do not have great tuner sensitivity, so it might cause one to not get all of the channels in your area. Thus, selecting the correct antenna can assist in minimizing that issue.
The downside is that Roku uses a third party internet channel guide which can remove channels from the scan if they aren't listed with the third party channel guide. It would be nice if Roku gave users an EPG option. So if you suspect channels are missing, reset the TV's internet connection and check the channel guide again and the missing channels will show up.
I had figured out how to run the channel scan on my mother's television but it took a while to find the channels in the menu. I eventually figured it out but it would have been easier if Roku would tell you how to do it. I also have my Hdhomerun hooked up at her house so she could just use the app from the menu.
I hate Roku. Especially the remote, if I'm on channel 1461 and want to watch 354....yikes...the remote has no numbers, And a universal remote does not help either. So...click..click..click....4Ever!🙁
when you additional scans does it delete your existing list of channels and start fresh or does it keep existing channels. I have my antenna on a rotor because I have to deal with different directions.
I love that you can have local over the air channels and the free streaming channels seamlessly on one guide, also channel surf all them free streaming channels like normal cable tv.
I can see my local channel in the guide but there is sound but no picture. Have to turn off the set and go back to antenna then it works the second time. Of course this a TCL TV so I have to expect problems with it.
Most of these smart TVs really don't have any over the air tuners that let you fine-tune anything. I miss TVs that let you enter the channel number and manually or at least you can look at the frequency and see if there's anything on it with a built-in signal meter that most TVs don't have any more either.
what I don't like about the TCL is I have a rotor antenna and can pick up close to 80 channels. However, those 80 channels are not all from the same direction. I wish I could scan and save the channels so those saved channels won't be over-ridden the next time I scan. For the most part, I point it at Philly and get all the philly channels. WFMZ and WNEP. I can get all the northeastern PA channels if I point my antenna in that direction. You just never know what you will pick up with a rooftop rotary antenna. I am in southwest Berks county and never thought I would pick up northeast PA channels yet have a hard time picking up Harrisburg channels.
Tyler, love the channel. I was quite surprised to find my Roku tv didn't scan the additional channels another tv did on the same antenna cable. 63052 zip and the additional channels were 7, 15, 20, 25, 33, 45 & 51. Roku scanned 45 channels and the other one scanned 80+. Monkey business?
I've got a Hisense Google TV. The channel scan is easy to find but the real problem is populating the Electronic Program Guide (EPG). The tuner an only see the radio frequency you are actively watching so the program guide doesn't show anything for any of the other channels. The TV really needs a background program that can scan the active channels to populate the EPG while you are watching HDMI1 or maybe overnight while the TV is idle. I assume there is some kind of subscription cost for all the EPG info available on the internet, so that's not offered as an option. (TitanTV?)
HOWdy T-A-M, I just inherited TWO (2) ROKU TV's I've just been utilizing them for my CC Television CAMERAS but NOW I May scan them "in" ! Thanks COOP the WiSeNhEiMeR from Richmond, INDIANA ...
Sorry Tyler but its not always an antenna issue. Channel 7 in Dayton Ohio has 7.1,7.2 and 7.3 They recently added 7.4 Our TCL Roku 32" will scan in all but 7.4 More like a firmware issue with the TV. Our Vizio set from 2012 will scan it in no issues. I can even manually scan for just one channel. I've reached out to TCL but not expecting help from them
My Roku Tuner Secret Screen is picking up a local channel but when I do a normal channel scan it does not pick up the channel ... I hope this made sense ... I NEED HELP
Myine scans fine, finds 30 channels on a broken outdoor antenna. I can then view those channels. Problem arises when I exit antenna channels for other Roku apps or shut off the tv. When I go back they’ve all disappeared and I have to rescan over and over again
Maybe you want to show how to set up a TV to boot up directly to OTA with no input menu. I bought a Roku TV about 3 years ago and had a heck of a time setting up like that. It was buried so deep within the menu I like to never find it. All I wanted was a dumb TV.
You can do a manual scan it's under tuner you can also do the EPG data I'm not sure how that works though and you can check your HDMI there's all sorts of secret menus I have a 50s425 RR up FF up RR. If that's not it use down instead of up. You can also do FF up RR up FF and I'll bring you to like the same type of menu some lead into each other but you definitely can scan for channels with one of those and the other one's the same as four combos on that HDMI is home five times down left up up up sorry if I'm being redundant and somebody already said it but somebody mentioned EPG data I'd love to even know what it means maybe electronic picture 🖼️blah blah blah thank you antenna Mr Sir third video I've now seen your face on appreciate it. Interestingly enough I just plugged the cable wire into the TV from the house and I came up with 11 channels I'm guessing a sub channel is like 17.4 but none of them have any programming but it says it's in 2160p and Dolby audio so it's a fantastic black picture and it sounds awesome,,,🤣
Did everything, didn't work. No channel number display. Still only like twenty five channels. Nothing local, have antenna. Rfool advertising channels I used to watch, but cannot access? Stupid remote without numbers. Do this, do that, when it worked yesterday???
My next TV wont be a roku tv, I'm not liking the roku new tos and its data collection. I'm gonna start referring roku as a "f**k you box!" I'll be glad to use a antenna, digital tv tuner with a dvd player and DVDs some pirated and some bought🤣😂
One of my biggest pet peeves in American society today is acronyms everybody uses them for everything! constantly have to Google them just say the stupid word or spell it out lazy bastard bastette?

The fact that Roku decided not to have a remote without numbers still boggles my mind.

What do you mean by: subchannel program?
@Fetherko the subchannel, are everything past the main channel
I don't have a Roku TV but as always, this video is very informative. I like the idea of incorporating OTA with streaming channels very much. I have to switch from my Roku to my OTA antenna input to watch antenna stuff.
Thanks for the video Tyler! Quick tip for this TV: The fast forward and reverse buttons speed up moving up and down in the Live TV channel selection.
It's also important to remember that Roku tvs do not have great tuner sensitivity, so it might cause one to not get all of the channels in your area. Thus, selecting the correct antenna can assist in minimizing that issue.
The best on you tube. Thank you for your great information.

I bought two Channel Master antennas from your recommendation and they work great! Thank you Tyler!
Glad they worked well for you!

Excellent video Tyler! That's exactly how my TCL Roku equipped TV scans.
I had figured out how to run the channel scan on my mother's television but it took a while to find the channels in the menu. I live about 50 plus miles from Phoenix, Arizona. I have to use antenna amp to catch some of local TV stations. Thanks for your great information.👍👍👍
Are you able to also receive Tucson stations where you live or is that too far away?
also dude when it runs the scan it shows it picks up 37 channels but when it finishes they are no where to be found in the TV tuner.
I hate Roku. Especially the remote, if I'm on channel 1461 and want to watch 354....yikes...the remote has no numbers, And a universal remote does not help either. So...click..click..click....4Ever!🙁
Here's another way to get it done. Go to the Live TV tile on the Home screen, press *, and it brings up a menu.
when you additional scans does it delete your existing list of channels and start fresh or does it keep existing channels. I have my antenna on a rotor because I have to deal with
different directions.
My deletes the previous scan when I scan for additional channels
@@TH-pc3ki That's a problem when you have to scan in two different directions

Thanks
Will this work on all the TV's?
I don’t have the tv input
When the screen comes up to scan there is nothing there and I can't scan! Help
I wouldn't recommend a Roku for any boomer non tech types. Im a generation younger and these tvs are frustrating if you want those air channels

This is all too complex for normal 70+ year old folks even with a history in computing that involved punched cards. You need a index to the acronyms.
One of my biggest pet peeves in American society today is acronyms everybody uses them for everything!
constantly have to Google them just say the stupid word or spell it out lazy bastard bastette?
and you scroll through the menu TOO FAST !
There is a setting in the video window to slow the speed if my pace is too fast.
