    Have had a Roku Ultra for years, just three of the tips I've used are removing apps, moving apps and to a lesser degree vote on channel. Seems I had a upgraded ff, from start of paid advertising to end of advertising is a snap.

    Thanks for these, especially avoiding the oji board typing nightmare. I already use the "private listening" to transfer sound to my JBL Charge 4 as my 32" Sony tv does not have great speakers and the JBL is very crisp and clear and I can put the speaker closer to me than the tv.

    The best thing on the Roku app for me is getting to use wireless headphones with an older tv that doesn’t have Bluetooth capability built-in or a Roku remote with a built-in headphone Jack. But it doesn’t work on hotel networks for me which I hope Roku can fix one day.

      I got a Roku (That I guess I really over paid for), while visiting the US recently. Given it was the Cheap 40$ dongle thing, that costs less than 20€s here for. It never had a Headphone Jack. My nVidia Shield Pro (2015), Remote however does. Though TBF the Roku Express is very pocketable, unlike the Shield.
      Hopefully I'll be able to get my VPN Service off my Phone, and into the wider LAN soon to take advantage of having a US based Roku.
      Again not nowing that that side was less Hardware, and more of an Internet Setup side, of it.

      @AlbertaStrength There is plenty of free Channels on Roku as well as the major Streaming Services. Besides the Roku Channel, and the movies to be found there-in it also has Pluto TV, which is more or less the same thing. As someone who has used an nVida Shield (Android TV), these last five years. I have to say, that I find the UI, of the Roku to be more simplistic, and less cluttered than that of Googles Android TV Platform.

    You may want to add an extra disclaimer to the private channels section or just remove it entirely. Roku shutdown/removed all the private channels back in February and replaced it with a beta system that limits the amount of users. There may be a few that seem like they can be added but they will just bring you to a 404 page when you try to add them.

    • @MaxxJagX
      @MaxxJagX ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You can still sideload, but this requires downloading a zipped channel so a huge asterix there about doing so cautiously.
      Though you can't exactly break much if you download and install a dubious channel since all channels are sandboxed.

    • @SmallSpoonBrigade
      @SmallSpoonBrigade ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@blakespower It's one fewer hop from the TV to your ears, which lessens the time delay. For another, many TVs don't have bluetooth support, and have a limited number of composite out and headphone jacks anyways. There's a a few reasons why more than one person might want to "private listen" at the same time including somebody else in the house that's trying to study or just wanting the improved isolation that it can provide.

    • @SmallSpoonBrigade
      @SmallSpoonBrigade ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thatguyalex2835 I wish more TVs would come with the ability to delay the picture by a split second to make up for that. At present, the best you can usually do is turn off as much of the processing as you can and hope it's enough. I remember when playing Rocksmith, that I had to do some funky wiring in order to get the delay close enough for the game to be playable.

    The main factor for choosing my first Roku device was the private listening option. I was trying to choose between the Amazon 4k stick and the Roku 4k stick, both on sale for around $25 on black Friday sales, but couldn't decide on one. I then found the Roku Ultra Lt with the headphone jack built into the remote for $30. As someone who is on a different sleep schedule than everyone else in my house this was the best choice for me, well worth the extra $5. I haven't gotten around to using it much yet though. (The main reason for even getting a streaming device in the first place was so I could turn my gaming consoles off when I just want to watch something, but so far I've noticed some negatives using the Roku. I'm not sure if it's the device being used or the company behind the app, but one of the main ones I watch (free with ads) has many more ads on the Roku compared to my xb1, which kind of partially defeats the purpose of getting the Roku in the first place as I'll probably stick with console to watch it.)

    • @SmallSpoonBrigade
      @SmallSpoonBrigade ปีที่แล้ว

      It's worth noting that the Android app does support private listening, so there's no need to do that with the controller. I haven't tried it with multiple connections, so I don't know if 2 people can be using that when there are other people that don't want to be disturbed.

    Any tips for saving battery life on the remote for the Roku Stick+? I ended up buying 4 rechargeable AAA batteries and I have to swap the 2 batteries every week.

    pc screen mirroring is also possible though for pc you need Bluetooth but sum Roku can connect through WIFI to you'r pc but go to settings, devices, click add Bluetooth or other devices, then wireless display or dock , finally click the name of your roku device p.s for mine no sound goes through to the tv

    Zoom: If I use screen mirroring from my iPhone, can I use the phone’s zoom to better see subtitles, etc?
    Or, is it still basically casting? I don’t quite understand the benefits of mirroring.
    Great video!

    GUess I'll be getting the Roku app, just for typing things in lol
    Curious, what's the best method to stream from teh Meta Quest 2 (Oculus) to a ROku TV? Also the streaming is very jittering, sound gets very poor, was curious what that's about?

    Can you transmit audio through Bluetooth speaker(s)? My TV is just a monitor with no audio? Get conflicting info on this; some say yes but only via headphones put in remote.

    Is there anyway to hear sound in my Oticon hearing aids? I tried the private listening feature but it doesn't feed through the hearing aids.

    I just got a Sony A80K (using optical for audio); should I connect my Roku Streaming Stick 4K to HDMI 2 or 3 (Arc/eArc) port. I have it on HDMI 2, but wondering if HDMI 3 would be better.

    I'm trying to decide between a Sony X950H 65-inch TV: 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV with HDR and Alexa Compatibility - 2020 Model or a TCL 65-inch 6-Series 4K UHD Dolby Vision HDR QLED Roku Smart TV - 65R635, 2021 Model.
    They're both about the same price, $1,100 v $1,200 and you have given both of them high marks. If you had to pick one over the other for watching a minimum of 5yrs, which would you buy?
    Thanks

    We have the Roku Soundbar... I wonder if there is anything specific to them, now..?..
    Currently we have 3 of them... I wonder if they can "communicate" with each other..?..

    Roku makes your "smart" TV smart.
    The only downside is the remote breaks easily. A few drops and the battery cover is toast. Another drop or two and it's completely done.
    Amazon has remote covers. They work great!

    I dont have the screensaver option in media on my roku remote app. Any suggestions? Also where do you find the code for private channels? I'm wanting to see if RTE is available.

    I like using my pics from my phone for a screen saver, it not only has shown me how fantastic my Samsung s22U is at taking pictures it is crisp and even nicer then the 4k stuff or generic pics. IO Love it.
    BTW read the book and knew most of this there are so many instruction manuals and alexa can tell u how to hack.

    Hello DT - I have an older Sharp, not smart TV, Roku appears, however, when I use the Roku controller or app control on my android, the TV picks up the signal and changes the Input Source! So impossible to use it...any thoughts? Thanks

    Love ur hacks, but I can’t figure out how to watch my channels (Roku) on my ipad\iPhone via the app when I’m away from home. Do I need to be connected to one of the devices ie: family room, media room, etc. and if so how do I do that without turning it on at home? Thanks

    I just bought a Roku Express the other day and tried the private listening - using the app on the phone with bluetooth earbuds. I gotta say that's pretty impressive. That this little thing can negotiate all the various connections and protocols and still deliver decent audio that had zero latency. Amazing.
    I have a question about using this in a hotel room. If you connect the Roku to the hotel wi-fi, and try to use the phone app, is it going to be able to mate the roku with the app remote if there are other Roku devices connected to the same network ?

      I'm not completely positive but I'm pretty sure you can choose the name of the TV or roku box that you wan't to connect to and it should work.

    Wow I already knew this stuff. You forgot to mention for blind people, I am blind, but specifically blind people who are totally new to the roku and just got it, there is a screen reader. If you showed that in another video, great! But if you haven't, well, then, other blind viewers might be confused because they didn't know it had a screen reader. Since you're not blind, you might not be used to a device reading something to you, it will drive you crazy, but the screen reader is there for a reason, it's because there are blind people who use it. It needs to be accessible with screen readers, and luckily, it is. I've played around with these things. Hopefully you understand the accessibility needs for us blind people, and can possibly make a video to other blind people about how to use the roku with a screen reader. Unfortunately, for those who are blind and speak more than one language, the roku only supports english for the screen reader, but that really doesn't matter to me, because I only speak english. But yes. It is accessible. You press the star button for times to turn it on, and the same to turn it off. I do get frustrated when I have to use a virtual keyboard with it, because I hate virtual keyboards! LOL

    Okay for PlayStation if you have the One touch button option enabled on the Roku TV and on your PlayStation does that mean every time I turn on my TV the PlayStation will also turn on or do I need to connect it through CES every time? Thanks
