The best thing on the Roku app for me is getting to use wireless headphones with an older tv that doesn’t have Bluetooth capability built-in or a Roku remote with a built-in headphone Jack. But it doesn’t work on hotel networks for me which I hope Roku can fix one day.
I got a Roku (That I guess I really over paid for), while visiting the US recently. Given it was the Cheap 40$ dongle thing, that costs less than 20€s here for. It never had a Headphone Jack. My nVidia Shield Pro (2015), Remote however does. Though TBF the Roku Express is very pocketable, unlike the Shield. Hopefully I'll be able to get my VPN Service off my Phone, and into the wider LAN soon to take advantage of having a US based Roku. Again not nowing that that side was less Hardware, and more of an Internet Setup side, of it.
@AlbertaStrength There is plenty of free Channels on Roku as well as the major Streaming Services. Besides the Roku Channel, and the movies to be found there-in it also has Pluto TV, which is more or less the same thing. As someone who has used an nVida Shield (Android TV), these last five years. I have to say, that I find the UI, of the Roku to be more simplistic, and less cluttered than that of Googles Android TV Platform.
You can also use the private listening to connect your roku to a Bluetooth speaker/sound system. We just recently used this for our outdoor theater set up and it worked perfectly!
I tested it with a Bluetooth smart speaker (Nest) and it worked. I'll stick to my TV speakers though, as there is a 0.1 second lag between lip motion and audio.
@@blakespower It's one fewer hop from the TV to your ears, which lessens the time delay. For another, many TVs don't have bluetooth support, and have a limited number of composite out and headphone jacks anyways. There's a a few reasons why more than one person might want to "private listen" at the same time including somebody else in the house that's trying to study or just wanting the improved isolation that it can provide.
@@thatguyalex2835 I wish more TVs would come with the ability to delay the picture by a split second to make up for that. At present, the best you can usually do is turn off as much of the processing as you can and hope it's enough. I remember when playing Rocksmith, that I had to do some funky wiring in order to get the delay close enough for the game to be playable.
Wow I already knew this stuff. You forgot to mention for blind people, I am blind, but specifically blind people who are totally new to the roku and just got it, there is a screen reader. If you showed that in another video, great! But if you haven't, well, then, other blind viewers might be confused because they didn't know it had a screen reader. Since you're not blind, you might not be used to a device reading something to you, it will drive you crazy, but the screen reader is there for a reason, it's because there are blind people who use it. It needs to be accessible with screen readers, and luckily, it is. I've played around with these things. Hopefully you understand the accessibility needs for us blind people, and can possibly make a video to other blind people about how to use the roku with a screen reader. Unfortunately, for those who are blind and speak more than one language, the roku only supports english for the screen reader, but that really doesn't matter to me, because I only speak english. But yes. It is accessible. You press the star button for times to turn it on, and the same to turn it off. I do get frustrated when I have to use a virtual keyboard with it, because I hate virtual keyboards! LOL
You may want to add an extra disclaimer to the private channels section or just remove it entirely. Roku shutdown/removed all the private channels back in February and replaced it with a beta system that limits the amount of users. There may be a few that seem like they can be added but they will just bring you to a 404 page when you try to add them.
You can still sideload, but this requires downloading a zipped channel so a huge asterix there about doing so cautiously. Though you can't exactly break much if you download and install a dubious channel since all channels are sandboxed.
Wish I read the comments first. Just took a few minutes installing unofficial twitch (and then it told me to install official twitch) only to find out here that neither work cause they were removed
I got a roku tv last week first smart TV I’ve ever had, and I spent a few days just messing with it. And I figured out all these features 😂 It’s really just about exploring honestly. With anything new you should always explore. That’s my advice.

I'm glad this video popped up in my TH-cam feed, I just ordered my Roku box system and this will help me set it up properly right away. Thank you so much, I can't wait for it to get here.
Thanks for these, especially avoiding the oji board typing nightmare. I already use the "private listening" to transfer sound to my JBL Charge 4 as my 32" Sony tv does not have great speakers and the JBL is very crisp and clear and I can put the speaker closer to me than the tv.
Along with others, I feel a need to point out that Twitch doesn't work on Roku. I know you showed in the video, but it doesn't actually work. Might want to edit that part out maybe.
You do not need to be on the same wireless network to use screen mirroring. It is a direct connection between the WiFi adapters of your client device and your Roku, no network required.
There is "Featured free" under "Home" Also, got to "Streaming channels" then "Free Movies and TV". Besides these you can explore the channels available and the descriptions usually tell you if they're free or not.

Great video, thank you for posting. The best feature you did not mention in your list is the voice recognition feature when you press and hold the mic down. You can find almost anything and Roku does a pretty good job at giving you all the options within roku. Many times do you guys find yourself in this scenario.. you just watched the great show you kind of remember the name but you do not remember the app that you watched it on. This is when this feature is very helpful.
Are Private Channels still a 'thing'? A quick Google Roku Private Channels + Popular Genre turned up a notice that Private Channels were to have ended on March 1st of 2022. So are these Private Channels still a thing or no?
The main factor for choosing my first Roku device was the private listening option. I was trying to choose between the Amazon 4k stick and the Roku 4k stick, both on sale for around $25 on black Friday sales, but couldn't decide on one. I then found the Roku Ultra Lt with the headphone jack built into the remote for $30. As someone who is on a different sleep schedule than everyone else in my house this was the best choice for me, well worth the extra $5. I haven't gotten around to using it much yet though. (The main reason for even getting a streaming device in the first place was so I could turn my gaming consoles off when I just want to watch something, but so far I've noticed some negatives using the Roku. I'm not sure if it's the device being used or the company behind the app, but one of the main ones I watch (free with ads) has many more ads on the Roku compared to my xb1, which kind of partially defeats the purpose of getting the Roku in the first place as I'll probably stick with console to watch it.)
It's worth noting that the Android app does support private listening, so there's no need to do that with the controller. I haven't tried it with multiple connections, so I don't know if 2 people can be using that when there are other people that don't want to be disturbed.
They removed the Private Listening feature for the Roku 3. It was working really well initially but then they decided to remove it without giving any reason.

The USB input for an external hard drive was one of the reasons I initially bought a Roku, so I could watch TV shows, movies, etc that I had already downloaded to my computer. My father has Parkinsons and it makes it very difficult for him to hold an iPad on his lap; he can just about handle the iPhone thankfully. I can position the iPad close to him, but not close enough to reach and touch the iPad. My question is, can you get the Roku app to run on the iPad, so you have access to all the Roku app like a TV, and then remote control the iPad from the iPhone using the Roku app? Thanks for any tips!
I have been using a Roku ultra since 2014. I didn’t know I could customize the menu like I could the icons!! Nice!! I also use the app. Yes a must download. Also I you have AirPods, put your AirPods in, open the app and hit the audio button!! Your tv in your AirPods!! Use it all the time!! Another thing I use wireless display. On a windows 10 computer right click on the desktop and go to display settings/ down at the bottom click connect to a wireless display. It search’s and the Roku will show up as long as you are on the same network and your computer is now on your Roku. Works perfect for throwing something on your tv from your computer.
One thing you forgot to mention is that you can also use your the Roku TV as a wireless display if you're wifi is down and it works flawlessly if you have a good phone with an amazing data plan.
I have just been given an old television and know nothing, but I have unlimited data on my iPhone. Does this mean that I can use the TV with Roku and no broadband? Do I need a modem with a Roku TV? Can I just connect to my cable and connect my router to the TV?
Can my Ruku TV display PIP? Thank you for the video!
I had no idea about half of these thank you for posting keep it coming
My father has Parkinsons and it makes it very difficult for him to hold an iPad on his lap; he can just about handle the iPhone thankfully. I can position the iPad close to him, but not close enough to reach and touch the iPad.
My question is, can you get the Roku app to run on the iPad, so you have access to all the Roku app like a TV, and then remote control the iPad from the iPhone using the Roku app?
Thanks for any tips!
Add Channel With Code doesn't work for me. Is that because of Roku's removal of all non-certified channel last year?
I am about to upgrade my roku skills this is great didn't know I could do so much!
Do you AirPods cut out periodically when you listen through app?
@@rkmcniel nope. Works perfectly every time.
Thank you for your very useful information. Actually I am also interested in watching channels like rumble and wonder if that is one of the channels that Roku has deleted. ? Hoping you have the time to answer, thank you 💜🙏💜
He did you dummy... its called MIRRORING!!
Smartview and my roku. I used it a lot until I tried sideloading moviebox pro to my roku ultra last night. Now I don't have to use smartview , downloaded the hello world first then the movie box pro app and it works perfectly. Should have done this sooner. Thank you roku.
Rumble its on roku its not as convenient as you tube though
Which app there is a bunch, what is the one your using? Thank you

On the Roku Voice Remote Pro or the Roku Voice Remote is it possible to request the following

“ Take me to ‘AirPlay’ in settings “ ? ….
Thanks for the tips. Sometimes I want to watch TV at night without annoying my wife. Even though i saw the icon I never realized I could listen through my phone. Big help! thanks again.
Can I change the shortcut keys on my remote that I don't use - Disney, Paramount, Apple TV?
Awesome tips. I’ve had Roku for a few years and didn’t know some of this. Great idea for a video, thanks.
Glad it was helpful!

My Roku TV home screen icons changed from 3 across to 4 across, making them smaller. Not sure why. Is there a way to change back to 3 across?

Curious, what's the best method to stream from teh Meta Quest 2 (Oculus) to a ROku TV? Also the streaming is very jittering, sound gets very poor, was curious what that's about?
I have a Roku Ultra and an Apple TV+. The annoying Netflix autoplay feature that can't be turned off, even though it's off in Netflix settings when signed in on a PC, is a Roku Netflix app issue. Shows do not play automatically in the Netflix app on Apple TV+.
Is there anyway to hear sound in my Oticon hearing aids? I tried the private listening feature but it doesn't feed through the hearing aids.
I didn't watch the entire video so I apologize if you addressed the question I'm posing here. I'd just like to know if this ROKU device needs to necessarily be connected to a TV. I ask bc I don't watch TV much really. However I do watch a little TH-cam on my PC and was wondering if that would suffice. I'd really appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks.
Hi, thanks for the video! How can I get on the internet with Roku, to browse? Thanks!
Hi, I enjoyed the information. I have a question, I am staying at a hotel and the instruction tells me to use direct-roku-jcf-d85cb9 snd password 1551181 but all the instructions say missing jcf-d85cb9, so the instructions are for setup, so what do I do

Why is there no sound when mirroring NewsMaxplus. Something about gaming mode turned off. I cannot find anything about gaming on Roku. Thanks for any help.
That was great, thank you. We have a panasonic TV about 11 years old and have the Roku Premiere installed on it. We'd now like to get a voice activated remote but don't know if it'll work with it or not. I tried getting in contact with Roku but it seems unless you have a specific question they post you can't get a hold of anyone.
Thanks
Bill C
If the remote has a button under where the batteries go you should be able to pair it to your Roku I just had to pair a new remote with my Roku tv because my son lost the remote lol
I tried screen mirror and it didn't work for me. I wanted to use an app screen mirrored and the only thing that worked was the audio track. I got a message saying that the content was not compatible with my device.
Also note that if you use your smartphone as a remote control, it needs to be compatible to use infrared signals to the roku box or device.
How do u take off back for batteries change
The Twitch unofficial/private channel is one i definitely recommend
What is twitch?
Maybe you can help me. I'm trying to get the live chat on TH-cam to the left side of the screen instead of the right. Can I do that and how? TY
Is there a way to remove the advertisement on the Roku homescreen or at least make it kid friendly? Some advertisements have terrifying images for my young ones and there is no way to remove it except by quickly clicking into an app, which is too late by then.
look up how to get into the secret menus and change it to where it doesnt show ads aat all just test boxes
My husband bought a hisense 43" roku tv- he cant find amazon prime- how will he be able to get it on his tv?

Hi, just wanted to know how can you watch international channels on Roku ?
Pls how can I use my Roku TV like an android TV, particularly bring in new apps that are from Google play store and use a web browser on my TV as well?
Hello DT - I have an older Sharp, not smart TV, Roku appears, however, when I use the Roku controller or app control on my android, the TV picks up the signal and changes the Input Source! So impossible to use it...any thoughts? Thanks
I like TH-cam and TH-camtv , both ask me to sign in every other time when I turn the tv off! Frustrating but good menu system, then I bought a fire stick from Amazon, great integration and menu systems with all TH-cam products. Just bought another fire stick. No more bs sign in problem.
Hi i need a easy way to hookup firestick. I just got it and got it jailbreak. Thank you so much.
I have a Roku smart TV and a Roku streaming stick on a 10 year old TV. Both work great. There's never nothing to watch for free. You don't have to pay for a service if you don't want.
My app doesn’t connect to my tv anymore any ideas how to fix ?

Great video. Thanks for the tips. Easier than fumbling through a manual.
My Roku Ultra has issues with the audio lagging and changing volumes. Seems to be defective. My internet speed is excellent, I’ve reinstalled the firmware and still not fixed. Any ideas besides replacing?

I just bought the Roku Streambar and I am wondering if I can run my tv sound through it, i.e. watching regular tv like a sound bar and not the just Roku? I can't figure it out if so.
Can you plug a haugpage USB antenna ota tv on the back of these devices to watch local ota tv?
Android has "smart view" which is android's airplay. Click it, select Roku you're mirroring to. Do it all the time with TH-cam TV.
Most of these I found by accident, I got the app because my remote quit then just yesterday found out that I could mirror just didn’t know what it actually was the problem I have is picture quality! Picture quality takes a while to go from all fuzzy to Almost 1080p but not sharp a little fuzzy! I am working with a Roku 1 if Santa hears my plea I’ll have something better since all my others are hand me downs including the huge smart flat screen !
Rented a movie on ROW8 and it won’t let me watch. The only thing it does is buffer with the little arrows. What do I do?
How do I get the pin for my TV please
Thanks so much for the info on the private listening. I didn't know about that :)
Great video man! Very practical and excellent, concise delivery.
is it possible to watch ring doorbell on a tv with roku?
Please help! When setting up the Roku Express 4K+, setup doesn't go beyond the bouncing ROKU logo. Is the device faulty, or is there something I can do besides carefully follow the "Roku Quick Start Guide"?
My roku is not working its 2 years old & both red & white lights are on. I've tried everything from reseting to unplugging. Do you have any suggestions?
How do I reactivate my roku remote after amazon convinced me to have their fire stick replace the need for it? I want to add it back, have not found steps to do it.
You seam to know most. After watching your videos I bought a Roku Express 4K. I set it up at home first. I struggled to get the remote working but succeeded using a different manufactures setting. I then put it in my RV and although I was able to connect the Roku to my cell phone as a hot spot, I got both green check marks, but attempting to select channels and videos they would play for a moment then the screen goes blank and the Roku reboots. I was under the impression that this should work. Am I doing something wrong or did the advertisements misled me?
