This video is a life saver for me as I have had a Firestick for my large tv and just recently purchased a ROKU tv for small bedroom. Major differences but this ole gal is never too old to learn new tricks!
Frankly I am sick of passwords an pins. I don't feel we should be plagued with them. At my age of 76 this is very annoying. So I guess I won't be doing any of this. Needing a password just to watch TV is absurd.
Roku was my first streaming device. I thought I knew everything about it. I now use the Roku 4k stick and I had the first Roku and everything in between. Thanks for the additional info.
Hey... My account... email and password is recognized on the roku website... The Roku app did recognize it before... But... NOW it says: UNABLE TO SIGN IN EMAIL OR PASSWORD DOESNT MATCH OUR RECORDS... So I cant use the SAVED ITEMS FUNCTION and whatever else is available on the App
Excellent job, thank you. What I need most is a tutorial on how to use the app on the phone when watching TH-cam TV. I want to hide a lot of live channels and then flip through the live open channels just as you would with a regular tv remote.
They’re great. But they lack 1 thing. Internet browsing. That’s where the Fire Stick prevails. You’ll only be able to mirror your device. Still a very cool and simple platform.
Hey Steve, I've been a user of Roku for a super long time and I love the secret menus. Thanks for sharing. Q- is there a way to reduce the menus items on the left hand side or set up for disability, child, elderly person?
(Settings > Homescreen) will let you choose which of the optional menu items you want on the left side of the screen. I turn most of them off to reduce screen clutter. There's a section for accessibility options as well. It can speak or do captioning. As far as parental controls, there really aren't any. You can use a PIN to stop kids from installing apps/channels but that's it. The best option is to have a second Roku account and a dedicated device just for the kids. Install kid-friendly apps and then lock it down with the PIN. You have to have a separate account because Roku doesn't allow different devices to have different apps/channels installed. If you change one device, it changes ALL devices linked to that account. I really wish they would change that.
This was such a useful video. I was today years old when I learned all of this. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge so that I can now maximize my Roku use!
Hi Steve, my Roku stick gets very hot, that it shuts down when I am watching. I unplugged it from the tv and left it in the usb,and still gets very hot. This can’t be normal. Any suggestions? Thank you. 4:24

Great stuff Steve ! I have the Roku 3 and Roku Ultra on our two TVs and use Spectrum for cable TV. We saved $22 by returning the two Spectrum boxes and remotes and now use our Roku remote to watch Spectrum cable. Are you aware of any devices or settings/tricks that will allow us to enter a channel number on Spectrum using our Roku remote ? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Jay

Great stuff Steve! Weird question for you! Can I program the remote so that it automatically goes to the Hulu app and a certain profile, my stuff, etc? My wife is challenged with navigation. She always wants to go to the Hulu app, her profile, her stuff and a particular program to watch until she goes to sleep! We have recently transitioned from cable TV to streaming. Before she could just turn on the TV and it would start where it left off channel wise or she could use the voice command to say "ID TV". Any way to automate that with the Roku 4K + device?

Now my question is how to operate the tv remotely from different Network WiFi from different locations if u can make video for this specific connection I appreciated Thanks for all ur help😊

Brand new to Roku ! I added the streaming to her tv. She also plays her Xbox on this tv. Do you have a video showing how to switch inputs or is there a way to go straight to her Xbox port from the Roku remote? Super green with this technology. Thank you
Since this vid is a year ago, with all the recent changes, if I am away from home for several days and sign into their guest mode, would I stillI be able to watch my Netflix or Hulu since all their changes recently made due to password sharing?
I like to hide as many things as possible on mine. I hide the featured free, sports, etc menus on the far left. Then I hide the power off and add channels tiles on the right section. I remove all apps I do not have access to. I like to keep it as tidy and minimal as possible
@@tomrwills That confirms it to me. My first r. express was connected Dec. 2019. I could uninstall anything. The second one was connected Feb. last year. and can't uninstall pre-loads. Sucks!

hi i just found your video talking about outdoor security cameras and I have the blink mini wireless outdoor camera but it seems from different videos I watch that I should return it. I live in a rental so having wire camera system probably will not be allow. I can't even mount a Tv on the wall so I sure I can't wire drill into the wall. I look for clear video quality and record time with actual motion is being detected. Plus night vision. I thought to purchase extra motion light for that which camera is best. I still little bit confuse here on which brand to buy or take back my blink before it too late to return it. return date 1/15/23
For the price I like Wyze. Here’s a comparison I did on the 2 cameras. Blink Mini VS Wyze Cam V3 - Who's Better? th-cam.com/video/xMSZI38SS3E/w-d-xo.html
I have had the issue of the Roku asking "are you still watching/listening" after so much time, I checked and the bandwidth saver is already turned off so did not work for me unfortunately.
I have the streaming stick 4k and can’t seem to get the new Home Screen drop down menu with The Buzz listed. I have the latest software 11.5.0. Any idea how to fix this?
Sadly, the app-based private listening has latency issues. These can be compounded by your device you loaded it on, and whether you used wired earphones or Bluetooth, and even variances in your internet speeds. The latency can be so bad as to make shows unwatchable: the mismatched voice sound with lip movements are worse that Japanese overdubbed movies from the 60's😂
I am hooking CD Audio into the RCA Audio inputs on TV. But it doesn't show up on home screen. TV input / settings has AV, its just not showing as available on home screen. Ideas?
I now cast TH-cam more and more due to Roku app force feeding way to many commericials. Even this podcast required me to watch several commericals before I could view it but on my notebook via youtube I was not forced to watch any commercials first. I don't know if TH-cam required Roku to broadcast more commercials or if it's just Roku being way to greedy but whatever the case find I myself using TH-cam on Roku less and less.. Makes me wonder just how much Roku is overly force feeding commercials in other apps they host..
Thanks for your updates , I very Roku ultra Lt everything is OK but some keys of remote are not working for example , mute , volume up & down , star , hulu, vudu , Disney keys so are you like to guide me to solve this issue . Thanks
Questions about security cameras. The only question I have for you.... when it is plug in 24 hours does it run up the electric bill? Do you get better video quality when you have plug in cameras like Blink mini plug in or Wyze plug in cameras? ve outdoor wireless cameras? which brand has better video quality better night vision and real time motion detector record time? Also there is a light bulb security camera you thoughts on those. I just saw one at someone house and the guy told me it move 360 degree and show me clear video. It screws in like a light bulb youwill change in a tradtion lamp.
is there a way of changing the channel buttons on the remote? or disabling them? i hate when i'm watching something and accidentally press one of the channel buttons
If you have 3 devices in your home... can you install an app on just one? Or does it install to all 3? If you delete an app on one... does it delete on all?
Pretty sure you have to install the app on each device. Likewise with deleting an app. However, once you do install on other devices your account and things like recently watched are sync'd across all devices automatically.
The biggest tip would be to stock up on remotes since they inevitably go bad! LOL I have no idea why Roku is not advertising to the hundreds of thousands who have faulty remotes about the phone option. The problem, by the way, is faulty design - static electricity attracts dust that turns into gunk over time and buttons stick and no longer work. (The solution - remove batteries, open remoted wash metal board with alcohol or soapy water and let dry. Unbelievable that Roku still has this problem. Thanks for the tip!!!!
For the life of me, I can't get the screensaver to show up on the Roku Streaming Stick 4K. When the TV is turned on, the screen is blank (actually, it displays a message on a blank screen about no source available). I have to hit the enter button on the Roku remote to wake up the stick, at which point it goes to the Roku home screen. With the Roku Ultra LT on our other TV, when you first turn the TV on, we see the screensaver (in our case, the fish aquarium).
got roku ultra and directv and i sucked for the last 3 years ....audio outage ...volume up down .....just google directv stream roku audio outages....called directv and troubleshooted all there bull....did not even get discount....and i assume it still going on direct and roku blame it on the other......good box though if it was not for directvstream
How do you disable those tips that appear now and then? Like "to watch this program from the start click..." and "just speak to use voice control". The tips are annoying.
Thank you, there is one other thing though. What if I don't want to go to the home screen? I have Xfinity cable I wanted to go to what I'm watching. I don't want to have to highlight HDMI1 and click on it every single time I turn on my TV. So, "No Home Screen", at all...?
That sounds like it has to do with your TV, not the Roku. Your TV should stay on whatever "source" connection you were last on before it was turned off. I never have to fiddle around changing the sources on any TV I've used, whether old or newer, whenever I turn the TV on, it's always on the last input source I left it on. Each input on your TV is for something specific, to show you the screen from a specific "source", so if you have cable hooked up to your antenna (default TV input) for example, and a Roku or another streaming device (HDMI), and/or a DVD player (component or HDMI), etc, hooked up to other source inputs, then of course you're going to have change the source input to switch between them. Otherwise your TV won't "know" what to show you. Even PIP only works within one source input connection.
Do any of the ROKU devices support infrared remotes? We have a universal remote that is NOT RF and only IR (infrared). This is programmed to operate everything like a home entertainment center, the TV the cable box, Blu-ray, VCR (Yeah, I know, VCR???) in fact, all of our TV's are IR remote. We don't want another remote for just one device.

The ad block feature is disabled. Still I see ads. Anything I am missing ?

How do you disable those tips that appear now and then? Like "to watch this program from the start click..." and "just speak to use voice control". The tips are annoying.
how to instal media player & maybe vlc player
I do not have hdmi on tv. How can I hook up ROKU onto my TV? I have the ROKU 4K +
