    This is how mine is setup. (TCL Roku TV) - Settings > TV inputs > Antenna TV > Manage channels > check Hide streaming channels. The only channels I see for Antenna TV (which I think I chose as a name instead of Live TV) are antenna channels. I select Roku channel app for those “live” channels. PS Go THON!

The bottle is designed to stand upside down to facilitate every drop to be consumed. Well, guess what? Some genius in marketing thought 'Let's make the cap round so they can't squeeze every last drop out of it and thus they will have to buy another one earlier than with the flat cap'. When that happened I quit buying that brand. Guess what? afta went back to the flat cap later on when their CUSTOMERS rightfully quit buying their product. I HATE CORPORATE AMERICA. • @Tempora158
      @Tempora158 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Not a bug. The two different "Live TV" icons on a Roku TV are actually two distinct apps. The purple "Live TV" app is actually the "Roku Channel" app inherited from the Roku box/stick. The black and white "Live TV" app is the TV tuner app (only found on Roku TV, not on the Roku box/stick) for watching TV from the ATSC/QAM tuner. What is causing the mass confusion is that the TV tuner app ALSO supports the streaming channels from the Roku Channel app and are included in the program guide by default. IMO, the "Roku Channel" app should just be removed from the Roku TV OS software because the TV tuner app does everything it does, but Roku probably can't do that (easily) because the Roku TV OS is just the Roku box/stick OS with things ADDED to it to support the TV hardware it is customized for.

      @@Tempora158 They just recently added that black and white live tv app to all Roku models, including non-TV ones. My Roku express has it, but it only shows streaming channels. I think it is intentionally confusing so they can push people to streaming services.

    • @crodrules
      @crodrules 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Tempora158
      These used to be two distinct apps, unique to each type of device. Roku TV's would only show the TV Tuner "app," even if you had the purple Live TV app installed on your other Roku devices. Stand-alone Roku sticks/players would only show the fancy purple app, since they lack TV tuners. Simple. Some time last year, Roku changed this. Now, they have made things even more confusing, by adding the TV Tuner version of the app to Roku sticks/players, alongside the existing purple version. This may cause the opposite problem of confusing people into thinking these devices have TV tuners, when they do not. On a Roku stick, functionally the only difference between the two Live TV apps is that the plain looking TV Tuner version takes you directly back to the Home screen when you back out of it. If you use the purple Live TV version and hit the Back button, it will take you to the Roku Channel app, rather than going directly to the Home screen. Again, this is happening on devices that do not even have TV tuners, so there is absolutely no reason to have two different versions of the same app on each device.
      Roku, make it simple and put it back the way it was before. The purple Live TV app version should be reserved for the devices without TV tuners, to approximate the function of the TV tuner app for devices that need a Guide app to access the streaming channels. Roku TV's with built-in tuners already have the TV tuner app that integrates the streaming channels with the OTA channels. The purple icon is not needed on these TV's.

    A different perspective…I have had a Roku TV for over 2 years. When I got the TV, the only way to setup live channels with my antenna was with the Live TV icon. I renamed mine OTA. I do not believe the Live Channels guide was even an option. When I did finally notice the Live Channels guide, I checked it out only to find that there are no truly Live channels available - only streaming channels. The Live Channels guide is nothing more than a marketing ploy to get you to watch Roku channels and commercials. I don’t think it is an oversight by Roku.

    I have a Roku TV (2 of the buggers) and noticed this as well. However, I don't go to the swankier "Live TV" section since the 'Live TV' video source is *right there.*
    The Live TV section mainly promotes the live/linear OTT listings of The Roku Channel, whilst the video source under 'home' lists everything from the coaxial source you scanned in *and* Roku's listings.
    It is one of the sections that can be turned off in 'system settings' as well.

It does not have a previous channel button or let you scroll through previous channels viewed and does not key you enter a number for a TV station . When I was using a Roku box on a non smart TV I could pause a streaming video on Roku, change my input to broadcast TV , look at that and then change my input back to the roku box and continue watching where I left off . This seems better to me than how I now do it on the Roku "smart" TV.

    28.1, 28.2, 28.3, etc and some other channels do not come in at certain time of the day, mostly at night, and other times I get five bars full strength. I do use a small antenna on the roof chimney which is probably more sensitive to interference. I wish there was some kind of filter to filter out the interference but I don't know where it is coming from or what frequency to block, and its probably the same frequency as those channels that the interference is coming from so I can't block it or can I? These channels I mentioned are Los Angeles channels in Southern California. I did not get interference on the old large antenna (VHF/UHF/FM) that was old and needed replacing. I probably will get a 200 dollar channel master antenna with (VHF/UHF/FM) reception in future. I also have a FM radio and a HDradio tuner that requires FM signal. I live in Seal Beach on the coast so I'm about forty miles from Mt. Wilson where the transmitters are.

    Never understood why it can be so hard to find local channels on a Roku TV. There's also as far as I can tell no category that's for the local channels on the guide like how there's categories for stuff like comedy and news channels on the roku streaming channels, which can make finding them still hard, even when you're in the right menu.

      I don't get why Roku doesn't put the antenna channels first within the channel guide. Most would agree that local channels are probably the most important. I wouldn't be surprised if it has to do with money as there is definitely some exchanging hands between Roku and some channels integrated within the channel guide.

It looked similar to the icon on a Philips we had before. I didn't encounter the problem you're describing. It was some time later that I noticed that other Live icon, with NO over-the-air channels.

      The purple one was intended to be a streaming-only Guide app for Roku sticks and other stand-alone Roku players. The problem is that it is now also showing up on Roku TV's that already had their own integrated TV Tuner Guide. This makes it difficult for those of us who have both stand-alone Roku players and Roku TV's on the same Roku account. We need the purple version for easy access to the streaming channels on our sticks. However, adding an app to one Roku automatically adds it to every Roku on the account, including the TV's that don't need it. This comes in handy for most apps, since there is no need to do a Search on each Roku device to manually add a new app to each one. The Live TV guide issue is confusing, though.
      As I said in my other comment, now even my Roku sticks have added a new Live TV guide app that looks identical to the TV Tuner version, even though there is no TV tuner in the stick. So now all of my Rokus have both versions of the Guide, when all I need is one TV Guide (the appropriate one for each device) on each device. How hard can this be for Roku to understand? I could uninstall the purple one, I suppose, but I refuse. It was there first (on the sticks) and it looks nicer. The confusing duplicate (that was automatically added by Roku) is the one that needs to go away.

    As a Roku viewer myself, it also depends entirely on what model of Roku TV you have. If you have a smaller Roku streamer connected to an HDMI jack on a dumb TV, you will be forced to use the TV's built-in tuner to watch your local channels as the set-top boxes don't have a TV tuner in them, which is perfectly fine with me under certain conditions. However, a Roku TV generally will have a TV tuner, and as you discovered, I try to have the Live TV applet configured to make it as unambiguous as possible to easily distinguish it between the Roku Channel on the home screen. You can actually even set the Live TV icon to display on the homepage as an antenna. Beware a faulty internet connection because under those conditions, the Live TV applet will _only_ show you your local channels, provided you've had the presence of mind to run a channel scan with a high-quality over-the-air antenna and not some - in the facetious words of another viewer - "PingDingChing" "8K HDR DTV" antenna with an obviously falsified 5,000-mile range rating.
