    I am back from Ireland! I didn’t have enough time to get this up before I left. Sorry for the hiatus, but our Ireland Trip was amazing! 0:03

    I love my old traditional spinning wheel, but with my back and hip issues I had had to mostly give up spinning until I found the EEW6. I am so happy to be able to spin again. Great video, blessings.

    So glad to hear that your trip was great. Ireland and the people there are just so amazing. I hope you found fiber fun as well. This yarn is gorgeous. I appreciated seeing your two samples, both 36 wpi but with the amount of twist very different. That really did help me understand how to get more drape and less "sturdiness" in my singles. harpingJanet

    Hi. Lovely colors in that fiber. I'm a very new spinner and was searching spinning videos when I came across your channel. Your wheels are beautiful, what models are they? What advice would you give to a new spinner like me? :)

    • @jkfiberarts
      @jkfiberarts  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! Thanks for watching! My wood wheels are Kromski Minstrel and Kromski Sonata. The Minstrel is the castle style double drive and the Sonata is the travel wheel, single drive with scotch tension( I use it for art yarn and plying ).
      My advice is spin a little bit every day. Depending on how new you are to spinning I would start treadling your wheel without fiber. Get used to starting and stopping your wheel and changing directions. The more you do it, you will develop muscle memory and you will be able to spin a more consistent single. And most importantly, have fun!

      @knitknotandweave8177 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jkfiberarts Thanks, i was able to rent a wheel from my weaving guild (Ashford Joy) . As a brand new spinner, would I be better off purchasing a single or double drive wheel? I friend has the Kromski Sonata and I really liked how her wheel feels.I've spun on a Lendrum and like that, but Gordon Lendrum is retiring and I'm not sure anyone is taking over that business. I'm still a little unsteady on the Joy - I can't seem to peddle slow enough 🤣I don't think any of my friends who spin have a double drive that I could try and not sure more LYS has one either. Looking forward to going back through your videos to learn all about spinning. Love your channel!

    • @jkfiberarts
      @jkfiberarts  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@knitknotandweave8177 purchasing a spinning wheel is a highly personal decision. First I would consider your space- do you want a castle style wheel(smaller footprint) or a traditional wheel? Do you prefer single or double treadle? Do you prefer single or double drive? Do you plan on spinning art yarn ( you may want a larger orifice without hooks, or buy a jumbo flyer). You need to consider the orifice height. I am tall so I prefer my Minstrel because the orifice sits higher and is more comfortable for me than my portable Sonata. The best advice I can give you is go to a store that sells wheels ,if you can, and try them out. I borrowed my friend’s Sonata for a couple of years and I liked it, and bought one, then I tried the Minstrel and it was love at first sight! Good luck, and good hunting for your wheel!

    This is sooo pretty, if you were going to spin 2ply how would you do it? 2, 4, 6 ??? How far out down the 2's do you go?? Sorry I'm kinda slow I guess...

    • @jkfiberarts
      @jkfiberarts  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It doesn’t matter how many times you divide it. It depends on how long you want the color repeats. For 2-ply fractal start by dividing your top in half vertically. I like odd numbers for fractal. But it truly doesn’t matter. I might do straight and 7ths or first half in 3rds and second in 9ths.

    • @ImGinaMarie
      @ImGinaMarie ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jkfiberarts I guess I'm just lost because I don't see how dividing it will determine how "long" the repeats are. I would think the length of the repeats would be determined by where you drafted off your colors and joined a new color. I understand that the continuous color changes in the original braid would be repeated consistently if the braid is separated and spun from one end to the other but whatever color came next in that length of roving is, would be spun next..hellp I'm lost....lol

    • @jkfiberarts
      @jkfiberarts  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ImGinaMarie No worries. The thinner the sections of braid you take the less fiber there is so the amount each portion of color is less so the sections of color are shorter as opposed to the 1/2(or whatever you choose) of the braid you spin straight. Another way to think of it: If you are 2plying and you have 1 oz and spin it end to it will be thicker and have longer sections of color compared to the 1oz that you have divided into 5 equal sections and spin them end to end. Those 5 sections = 1oz (one single)and the first 1 section =1oz (one single) same weight, but one is thicker and one has 5 thinner sections. Each of those 5 thin sections is 80% less fiber compared to the one you spun straight so the color repeats will be shorter, and repeat more frequently. That is the definition of a fractal spin.

    • @jkfiberarts
      @jkfiberarts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actual Boiling water? I would not recommend that. Boiling will weaken wool. It can felt it and it will shrink. I would use boiling water if you are felting a knitted object.

    My Ashfird gauge only goes to 3 ply at 16- 18 wraps per inch . How are you at 32-36 ? New to spinning and confused. Also if you ply back and find the angle is 20 how do you maintain that when you come to plying? Sorry for all the questions…

    • @jkfiberarts
      @jkfiberarts  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The WPI is for the single, it will be thicker when 3-plied. You can get different spinning tools that go to higher WPI’s. Mine goes to 40 and I estimate beyond that. I would direct you to my spinning video library. There is a beginner level video to explain how to ply to get a balanced yarn. Let me look up the link for you.

    Why is it important to always start spinning the nest from the same side?

    • @jkfiberarts
      @jkfiberarts  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You want to spin them in the same order, always from the same end and to end. That keeps the colors in the right position so that you don’t have color pooling.
