I apparently spin left handed all the time, even though I'm right handed. I find it more comfortable. Also when I chain ply, I have the yarn on the other side of me than you. It's so interesting how we all do the same thing, but differently. Beautiful yarns. Thank you for sharing your process. I look forward to seeing the final project whenever you get to it.
Who doesn’t like floofier!!! 😂😂😂. You make it look so easy. I appreciate hearing your thought process so clearly. “No knot-tying, no crying.” My new motto. 😊
LOL! I love that motto. The person who taught me to knit always said if you can’t see the error at a gallop, forget about it! I was very much the perfectionist when I first started. I was also the tightest knitter in the history of the world! It took me a good 5 years to relax!! That’s when I really became a knitter!
Newbie here. Thanks for this video. What do you call the little wooden thingy that you're measuring the diameter? of your yarn with? I think I need one of those! Also I'd like to be sure I know which is which. in the beginning you've got left to right a sandwich (with solid layers), stripes and a braid..You spun the layered one "willy nilly". At the end, is the one on the far right the "sandwich" (which was on the far left in the beginning?) Thanks.
Welcome to the rabbit hole of spinning! It’s a great place to be! The tool is called a spinning tool. They come in all shapes and sizes. It should have WPI for quick check of yarn size and an angle of ply check for S and Z. I don’t remember where I got the smaller rectangle one, but the cute animals are from FiberSprite.com. They are also on Amazon and Etsy
I have the yarn planned for a scarf with alternating sections. I haven’t started it yet!😬 Spinning is my superpower. I never seem to find the time to knit. I will try to get it done.
I noticed you spin left handed as well. Do you spin on a great wheel? If not it will be natural to you. I am R. Handed but spin left handed as well. I had probs pinching with my left hand so when I started spinning I purposely pinch with my R hand.
I do spin lefty! I am right handed, but I learned from a left hander and it seemed natural to me. I think it’s because I have great fine coordination with my left hand from playing the guitar.
I deliberately swap between “right” and “left” hand when spinning or plying (even chain plying) cuz it keeps my one hand or the other from getting too tired
I don’t necessarily prefer it. It depends on how I am going to use the final yarn. 3 ply yarn is rounder, and will give you better stitch definition, especially if you are knitting cables. It will also wear better and I always 3 ply for socks. I two ply for drapey things and a lot for hats, shawls etc.
Also, I prefer 3 ply to chain ply as personal preference because I can 3-ply much faster than chain ply, but I do a fair amount of chain ply. Depends on what I want from the yarn.
A great demo of how to spin up the bat, I'm about to try doing progressive bats on my drum carder for the first time, and seeing how to get the different effects is perfect timing, I'm also a newby at this style of wool creation. Thanks for the great video.

As a new spinner, these comparison videos are SOOOO helpful. I have no idea what I can do let alone what I’m going for. You really help.
I am glad to hear it! Keep spinning! Be bold!
@@jkfiberarts ooh thanks for that! It’s just yarn after all!! 😇
So useful! Iv been curious about the differences and this completely cleared that up!! Love your videos ❤️
Thank you! I was Going to knit up swatches and have not got around to it yet! It’s on the list!!
Outstanding video. Very helpful and inspirational.
Thank you! I hope you will love your batt spinning!!
I loved this video! I love how you explain and demonstrate so clearly and expertly. Love the comparisons, it's very useful for my thinking. Thank you!
I am so happy you found it helpfu!
Excellent video! So well done, informative, and helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I’m right handed and also lead with my left without anyone having shown me what to do. It just feels right to use my left.
Great information, newbie trying to learn, thanks.
Thanks! I am thinking about doing some basic spinning videos for beginners. I will put up some short, basic spinning videos soon!
I love the differences in all three yarns❤ I’d love a small swatch of each.
Yes! I I am definitely going to do that. I just didn’t have time to get it done and put it on the video. I am adding it to my list of things to do!

You didn’t happen to knit up any swatches to show the effects of the 3 different approaches?

@@jkfiberarts I bought a Spinning wheel with the flyer on the right for a left handed spinner. I have been enjoying your podcasts.

Do you move your lazy kate when you swap hands? I need to have it on the side of my back hand or it messes with my twist.
@@jkfiberarts move it? That sounds like work… 😂 No, I just swap hands occasionally as I work. I have ever since I was learning to spin
