    What about the open ports that were bypassed on the AC Condenser unit? Plugged? Left open?
    Looking to add one of these AS WELL ad change out the Condenser unit (which was done 3 years ago...🤬 GM!)
    Any advice?

    • @TheBeardedTortilla
      @TheBeardedTortilla  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there, no ports in the AC condenser were touched as it’s not related to that system. The radiator ports are actually routed in series with this cooler, so the fluid will still run through the factory radiator, the kit comes with everything you need to install it and have it work flawlessly. To this day, mine still runs great!

    Question: My 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 has no transmission dip stick, so replacing fluid is a pain trying to access the fill plug. Couldn't I attempt to add ATF directly into the cooler itself? Any advise would be appreciated

    • @TheBeardedTortilla
      @TheBeardedTortilla  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 2018 doesn’t have a dipstick? That’s crazy! I would suggest maybe a hand pump of some sort to pump the fluid into the fill port. Other wise I’m not honestly sure.

    Great video! I can’t seem to get an answer from them. I have a 2018 Sierra and it seems like mine is setup a little different. The hot fluid from my transmission comes into the passenger side of the radiator and out the driver side. But I think their cooler is meant to cool the fluid after it goes through the radiator. So mine would be opposite - I feel like the fluid should go through the radiator first. Was yours that way?

    • @TheBeardedTortilla
      @TheBeardedTortilla  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ummm actually I think if I recall correctly that’s correct, this cooler loops itself into the output from the radiator I think and then goes back to the transmission. I believe I learned that after I made the video haha either way, this cooler works great! I highly recommend it!

    How did you get the lines off?

    • @TheBeardedTortilla
      @TheBeardedTortilla  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If memory is correct, they use a small clip called an E clip. You can use a pocket screw driver or very small flat blade, pry to black plastic cap off the base where the fitting and the line meet. Then use a small pick, I prefer a hook pick, to gently remove the E clip. Do be careful, sometimes they can come flying off. Hope that helps 👍🏻🤙🏻

    How much cooler does the truck run with this cooler on it?

    • @TheBeardedTortilla
      @TheBeardedTortilla  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It normally runs about 110-130 depending on ambient temps, towing a 20ft ski boat, it goes up to about 160, in roughly 105-115 ambient temp outside, thanks for asking!

  • @grahamwhittington4444

    Been thinking about getting a mishimoto trans cooler for a while. Also, for the trans thermostat, there are vids where you can just flip one of the components in the thermostat block for the fluid to constantly go. I’ve had that free mod for about 3 years, my 15 rado has a lift kit and 35s and my trans temps stay around 145-160 (in the summer heat), 170s if one getting on it, that’s without the extra cooler. Is it worth getting the mishimoto? Or are your temps only down to about that with the cooler and thermostat mod?
    Nice vid. Very informative and clear

    • @TheBeardedTortilla
      @TheBeardedTortilla  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I didn’t personally run the flip trick just based on my own professional opinion that I trust the kit more than what they were showing. With that being said, with the thermostat delete and cooler installed, the highest temp I saw was 170, with ambient air around 118, towing a roughly 4500lb boat up a slight hill, AC on and a truck load of people. On the other end of the spectrum, right now in SoCal heat, cruising around I’m usually right around 120-130F. So not a huge difference but I feel worth it, the cooler we can keep the fluid, the better it will hold up and perform in between exchanges

      @@grahamwhittington4444only installed the thermal bypass from shift technology and the highest temp I ever get is 170's average is 149! So for $40 bucks hard to go wrong! Also I did a fluid flush at same time 46,000 miles. I'll just drop the pan and change fluid and filter around 75,000- 80,000 miles. If I towed regularly I'd do an aftermarket transmission cooler but I barely tow and when I do that's when I see highest temp which was 179 once going up a mountain

      Well I’m out here in SoCal so I’m not to worried BUT, don’t forget this kit is adding in a cooler but if you follow the lines, you’ll notice that they still run through the radiator, so the transmission fluid will still get some warmth from the radiator.

      Update. Temp is steady in 0 degree temps and below with this set up. 4 hour drive in a winter wonderland, transmission temps were steady at 120-130. When towing this summer they never got above 150. At idle in below freezing temps they remain between 110-120.

    GM's junk ass torque converter is what is creating the heat in my 6l80. V6 reg cab 2wd. All I do is commute to work 65 miles one way and it gets to 195 even after doing the coolant thermostat bypass. Pissed. Been a problem since new and GM acts like "oh well"

      I’d recommend a transmission service and possibly replace the converter then. Since I’ve done this upgrade, my transmission stays down in the 130-140 range, hottest I’ve seen was about 170 while towing during the summer. Sorry to hear about your transmission.

    YOU WANT THE THERMOSTAT!!!!!!!!!!! ATF needs to be at a certain temperature to perform correctly. Too cold and it doesn't work as it's supposed to. You'll get harder shifts, thicker fluid to pump, less lubrication, and more wear on your transmission. I installed a cooler but am having trouble getting a t-stat installed cause now the transmission won't warm up to temperature it needs to be at. I've seen tons of these videos now and only a couple people know better. Sorry to harp on you but you DEFINATELY need that thermostat. Otherwise your putting extra wear on your trans because your ATF isn't lubricating correctly.

    • @TheBeardedTortilla
      @TheBeardedTortilla  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      No worries, I appreciate the input but frankly it’s been trucking along great for the last year and a half, it still warms up to about 150 on a warm day, about 130 on a cool day. If I lived in a snowy area I would have left it but where I live it’s usually 80+ with that Transmission temp upwards of almost 200, all my experience has said hot fluid kills transmissions, I’ll make a follow up video if it ever dies due to too cool of fluid.

      @@TheBeardedTortilla sorry for all caps. I am climbing walls trying to find a tutorial on putting in the trans thermostat 😳 everybody is throwing them away. Not sure what trans fluid you are using. 150F would be bottom of operating range for dextron VI if memory serves me right. In hindsight I discovered factory does an awesome job of operating around the nominal of 175f... factory does suck if you get into some heavy duty stuff though... like offroad in summer temps with 4wd. And or if you do a high stall converter / fiddle with TCC tune. I did all the above. That was issue I ran into and wanted to swap coolers for. My setup is now running sub 100f... to 120f... way too cold. I think Derale sells a good thermal bypass I will try. Has been lots of fineggaling. Right now I have to put a box over the cooler. The best transmission fluid temperature is between 50c - 60c. Otherwise, it will be light as water. As you know, transmission fluid viscosity is at peak point at 40c and starts losing viscosity with higher temperatures. If transmission fluid temperature reaches 90c+, you will feel the car losing torque, and you will need to change it frequently.
