My thanks immensely for this video. I think I might be the luckiest guy on this thread. After removing the entire ice maker assembly (as shown in the video), I found the auger shaft threads were stripped allowing the auger to just spin. Taking a hint from John DeMint (below), I found I was able to take the auger off by hand (no tools needed at all) and simply added some extra washers behind the auger. This pushed the auger out toward the front of the shaft and I then used my screwdriver to really tighten it down on good threads. My cost was about 20 minutes and a lock washer and second flat washer in my parts bin. Total cost was $0 and the ice maker is up and working fine. Checked with both cube and crushed. No problems at all. Thanks a ton!!! And remember, happy wife, happy life.
I fixed mine using those steps, with one exception-I didn’t purchase a new motor. After removing the yoke, I added about five washers to push it further to the end. I then applied JB Weld to the motor’s shaft end, waited about five minutes, and tightened the yoke. Once everything was reassembled, I let it sit overnight before testing it. Everything is working perfectly now. Thank you
I was able to fix my stripped thread problem by adding another flat washer and a lock washer behind the yoke. This kept the yoke on good threads towards the end of the shaft. Cost was $1 vs around $150 for a new motor and yoke. Thanks for the video!

Thanks ! Great instruction ! I was only able to fix my ice dispenser myself because of this video. The only thing I did different was how I removed the stripped auger. After 30 minutes of not making progress removing the auger I got out my Dremel. I used a small cut off wheel to cut the protruding stud close to the auger being careful to stop and let it cool a few times. After cutting the auger pulled off easily.
Thank you! I didn't have the same problem but, my ice maker stopped and a piece of plastic broke off and jammed in the ice maker. I slid the entire ice maker out, cleared the jam, cleaned it well, glued the plastic back in place and we have ice again!
SO glad I found this video - I have the exact same model and my ice maker is not dispensing ice. There is power to the door - the ice bin door opens when the pad is depressed, but the auger does not rotate to push the ice through. I cannot hear the auger motor spinning at all. I have verified that the ice bin auger spins freely and isn't frozen. I have removed power to the refrigerator for 2 minutes and powered back up - no change. I have ordered and received a new auger motor and yoke and will be replacing today following your guide. I'll let you know how it goes!
It went well. After I got the toke off, replacing the motor was simple. I performed thr electronic reset and put everything back together. Ice was once again dispensing. After a few dispenses, it stopped again. Took out the bin and replaced and dispensed again. This happened intermittently for 1 day. I removed the bin, spun the auger to ensure it wasn't frozen, aligned it with the yoke placement and replaced the bin. It's been dispensing ice consistently every time since. So 100% fixed. 😊
Thanks for sharing -- very informative. We have the same ice-maker in french-door model wrf555sdfz08. IMO, it's a poorly designed & engineered ice maker. Ours never works correctly. The auger routinely jams-up, and the plastic tab (that keeps the slide-out drawer locked in place) is broken. It also routinely ices-up inside preventing you from sliding the ice hopper out. We've given up using the thru-the-door ice dispenser, and just slide the hopper open, grab some cubes, and slide it back. It's a horrible design for a refrigerator that costs ~$2000.
I had ordered a new yoke but looked at an different solution since mine was stripped like yours and didn't want to come off, I went to a Fastenal store taking my icemaker in with me and picked up a left handed course thread nut that I believe was 5/16. When I got home I tightned the nut down on the threads and against the stripped out yoke, holding the motor still from turning thru the opening in the motor cover. The yoke is tight and works fine. I returned the 25 dollar new yoke. My second solution if this had not worked was to spot welde the yoke to the threads.
THANK YOU!!!!! The manual we got with our new Whirlpool does not even address the type of ice maker we have (shown in your video) Could not figure out why it was not making ice! Yup, it was the reset button. THANK YOU!!!!
great video! Is there a way to tell for sure it's the auger motor? I don't believe mine is turning at all. I get ice, but it won't dispense and I never hear the auger spinning or even trying to spin. Is it most likely the motor, or could it be another part in the ice maker that would cause this? Thanks
Great video! My icemaker on my whirlpool wrx fridge is making ice and when you press the paddle I hear a click on the right side of the refrigerator, the motor doesn't turn. How do I see if the auger motor is good?
Great video, thank you! Like a prior commenter, I was able to re-use the existing yoke with a lock washer, a 5/16 reverse thread nut (found at Ace) and some Loctite red just to be sure it stuck. I coated the shaft in Loctite, put the U bracket on first as tight as it would go, then the lock washer and finally the reverse nut. Been a few weeks and it's working great! It seems that this same issue will occur again if a new yoke is used, so a self-repair is the way to go here, and the cheapest option. Super poor design, seems designed to fail.
Thank You for making this video it is very helpful to others. We had the same issue only after owning the fridge for 8 months I’ll fix it myself thanks to your video.
@@mariaruiz-ry8el Well there’s hope. Ours miraculous started working again. I removed the ice maker multiple times and thawed it completely out. It kept doing it. The last time I said eff it. Then about 2 weeks later it started working fine. One of the kids used it and it worked and I was like WTF?! It’s been working fine ever since. Probably 2 months now and no issues.
Mine was making ice but not dispensing. I found the two plastic clasps that hold the ice tray in solidly had broken off, allowing the icemaker to slide out slightly when the auger turned.
Is there any trick to getting the wire panel cover off? Im having a hard time. Ive put a small flat head in the back hole but nothing seems to click or move, and ive pushed in as far as possible with no release.
The hole you're going to put the tool in is in the front of the bump in the panel and is a rectangular hole. Only need to push down about 1/2in and the panel should pop right off!
Thank you for this informative DIY repair. My issue is that after I’m done going through the whole diagnostics check. If I don’t jump the V and L to force the water into the tray. It will not continue to make ice. After I take the ice maker out as if sends some kind of a signal that tells it to begin to make ice. That’s one reason why haven’t ran out and have started to buy parts that probably won’t be a solution to the problem. I can get water through the standard front function of the cup in side the outer front door and pushing on the paddle to get water flowing, the auger is working fine as I can push the ice paddle and it will begin to spin as to try to find ice to push out and down the shoot and the shoot door begins to open. Please let me know if it’s a familiar symptom you have dealt with before. SMHL!,,
Sounds like a bad ice maker. If you installed a new one take it back and get a new one. If it will fill when you jump v to l than you know the wiring and valve is good. Ice maker is the culprit. Yes I have ran into brand new parts being bad before lol. I hate it with a passion because it makes me question myself and try other things not knowing the part I just installed was bad. Great video. I have had 4 of these refrigerators and all have had the same problem with the ice maker, only one time was it in warranty. The technicans I called replaced the motor and auger each time but none of them can tell me why it is stripping the treads on the motor. There must be a cause but I could find nothing on the Whirlpool site. If anyone knows the cause I would rather stop it from happening. The motor I replaced most recently only lasted 5 months before stripping out.
Ray Ray The ice maker runs on 120v and yes the jumper wire jumps 120v through to the ice maker motor module to get it started. What you’re jumping there is the thermostat. The thermostat closes when it gets cold enough to signal the water is now ice. This starts the harvesting process. So essentially you’re push starting it like you can in a manual vehicle. Thanks for the comment!
very helpful video. I followed your troubleshooting exactly and got the E2 = Motor Lost Position code on test 56. Then 02 = failed test 59 both CW and CCW. So i replaced the ice maker motor. I no longer get the E2 code on test 56 but I'm still getting 02 = failed on test 59 both CW and CCW. The auger just spins and never finds it's home position. Any ideas what to try next? I'm wondering if there's a switch or relay on the motherboard that's not shutting the motor off when it signals it's home...Any help would be greatly appreciated.
actually after troubleshooting further, it appears now that the rake in the ice maker won't stop spinning now. As if it can't find it's home or it's not getting a signal to stop. Wondering now if this happened to my last motor and it eventually burned out...Any thoughts here? Wondering if the issue is the control board...
Thanks for providing good info. My front panel looks similar on my kitchenaid but ice maker is on the door. It’s a Ksc24c8eyy. Anyways...my ice maker isn’t producing and when I push the paddle switch for ice I get a second or two of water from the water dispenser while the ice door opens and tries to dispense ice. Not even sure the problems are related. I bought it used a year ago and never had it hooked up to water until now. Is ice motor replacement technique same on my model? Any advice on tracking down the wire issue causing faulty water dispensing? Appreciate any help!
I wasn't getting ice either, when I pulled out the assembly, I found ice in the funnel. I replaced the inlet valve 8 months ago...I dislodged the ice and re-assembled and started getting ice again after 3 days... any suggestions?
Ive got a whirlpool WRF757SDHZ01 French door refrigerator I replaced my ice maker and did all the tests and it passed but I fill it up with water and it doesn't eject the ice?
Thanks for the tutorial. My issue is slightly different. It makes ice, but doesn't dispense ice. When I press the ice dispenser button, I only hear one click and nothing else. What else should I check? Thanks
I have the same problem did you find the solution? I can’t even take the ice maker out it’s too full.. I’m thinking it’s the water filter it says I need to change it?
Please help. I have the exact fridge. It was not dispensing ice from the door although the water does work. It is producing ice but just not dispensing. I finally figured out that I have to push the freezer door towards the switch (left) and then it will begin spinning and release ice. Do you think it would be the switch? Would the water still work if it were the switch? I was also having issues with the door alarm with that left side. I leveled the fridge and that seems to be a little better since it is not happening as much.
Thanks for help. In our ice-maker it was the part that has the letters on it. it must of got hot and burned. Now off to order the front part of the ice maker.
Which piece? The plastic cover or the whole ice maker assembly? If it is the white plastic cover that is shown and you will not see the clip. You have to stick your short screw driver in and hope you get it and push it down. For the ice maker there is a clip on the left hand side. Flat head screw drive will lift that up pretty easily. From there you just pull the whole thing out. it can be tough to get out sometimes too. You have to pull pretty hard to remove it sometimes. Hope this helps. Good luck!
you are the man! Do you have any videos of Fridges you recommend for purchase? I am about to pull the trigger on a new fridge and i want to make sure i am making the best decision on the longest lasting models.... Its between Whirlpool 24.6 side by side with ice maker in the shelf of the freezer (Model #WRS325SDHZ) & Whirlpool 28cuft (Model #WRS588FIHZ) with the ice maker in the door. Which unit is more reliable ? Or i was looking at the GE 25.3 Cuft (Model #GSS25GYPFS) , any thoughts on which units is best or are there other units that are better?
Auger motor not spinning or tries to spin. Motor is getting voltage. Actually measured higher than 110v. Solenoid is ok. Door switch is ok. Replaced the auger motor and still has the same issue. Any ideas to troubleshoot?
Our auger is fine....its just not making any ice at all. It has happened before but started working again after a couple days by itself. This has stopped making ice like 3-4 times now. I can't find a diagnostics manual to interpret the codes anywhere.
I have this exact fridge. The fridge is barely 2 months old and I'm having issues with it dispensing ice. The ice maker is making ice just fine. when I go to fill up a glass i can hear the motor but no ice dispense. If i open the tray the ice doesn't appear to be frozen and the arm turns in the tray without issues. I even checked in the back of ice maker to ensure there wasn't any blockage. If i dump some of the ice and put it back in . it will work for about 2 days and stop again. I had a tech come out before and did very little to fix it other than giving me the workaround of dumping the ice. At this point I'm demanding that they replace the ice maker and the motor based on your video. Do you have any suggestions or ideas.
one other thing to ask. when your putting it in diagnostic mode and dialing up to 25. what should i be looking for? Is there any error on the screen of the display to look for or code? I did notice when i placed in diagnostic mode on the screen it stated to replace filter. I find it hard to believe the filter is bad for a fridge less than 2 months old. As well as it being the issue to the ice maker not dispensing but still wanted to ask.what should i be looking for.
If it is only 2 months old it will be under the manufacturer warranty. The auger motor is expensive on this sucker. Call Whirlpool and have them send someone out.
Thanks for the info! I've taken the ice dispenser, defrosted everything and thought that it was fixed. But this morning I looked at it, and there's a blockage of ice where the crush blades/ dispensing is. I've cleared the icee again, but I'm still getting the block of ice in that dispenser area. I can hear the motor spinning but all it does is make normal ice in the bin. I'm at a loss. Do you have any idea what it could be?
Where the door opens and closes for ice to come through the door, there is a problem where it’s not closing all the way. You have to investigate what’s causing to to not close. Could be the little motor down there or simply just something in the way. Good luck!
I have the same problem did you find the solution? I can’t even take the ice maker out it’s too full.. I’m thinking it’s the water filter it says I need to change it?
I have whirl pool French door style fridge with middle drawer model # wrx735sdhz03 we have had it for less then two months now for second time it stopped producing ice. I was told the unplug 30 second trick then push the arm up 3 times to reset it. The first time this happened after a month in our home it worked. But now nothing. Any suggestions. Thanks so much
Whirlpool wrs586fldm01 side by side missing tech sheet. Any ideas how to get diagnostics or cross reference to other refrigerators? Ice maker has optical bin detector. Service manual would help. Anyone got a pdf? Diagnostics go from 1 to 46, but I can't tell what they mean. I already checked the hinge wires for shorts and continuity with a multimeter and needle probes.
I have the same refrigerator (3 months old). The ice cubes come out very small. I checked the water pressure and it’s strong. Also, when I try to get cubes, it dispenses crushed ice along with the cubes. Any help ? Thanks
Hello. My refrigerator is the same model with you and it stop makinh ice after i replace the water filter. And after i check the Service Test 25, the result is 00. It means the water valve and Icemaker fill off. So what should i do to turn it on? Thanks you so much.
You have to go a step further to cycle the ice maker to have it fill back up. You have to get that front cover off of the ice maker and jump the T and the H with a wire to jump start the ice maker to get it to fill. The tech sheet doesn't give you all the information needed for that test. Hope this helps.
We also have the same refrigerator and no ice dispensing because the ice box that you pull out is just one big block of ice. Think maybe water line is leaking or something else is wrong?
Got to defrost the fridge where you can get the box out and cycle the ice maker to see where the water is coming from. Could be a crack in the ice maker mold or ice built up in the funnel. Could be a couple of things. Got to clear the ice first though.
You may have some ice build up there by the funnel for the water to the ice maker. May have to thaw it before me you can get it out. Either that or you may break it by trying to pull it out. If you don’t see any ice I would just try and pull and eventually it will come out. As long as you removed the wiring cover too. That has to be removed to get the ice maker out.
Yeah repair men are expensive. The auger motors on these thing are crazy expensive as well. i want to say they run around $150. i would just look if its running with the bucket out. If it does your motor is fine. Either your shaft on the motor is stripped or the yoke. Sometimes the auger breaks on the inside of the bucket as well. I wish you luck.
I have the same problem did you find the solution? I can’t even take the ice maker out it’s too full.. I’m thinking it’s the water filter it says I need to change it?
Mine was doing the same thing, took mine out to the garage and welded the bracket to the motor shaft with 2 little tack welds. Motor was fine just stripped shaft. Instead of wasting $200 and waiting for parts to come in took me less than 5 mins start to finish and cost me nothing.
I watched a lot of videos. If all the tests show no issue like mine then if it makes all the right sounds do this. It is frozen. Ice maker never fills but sounds like it. Solution other then unplugging fridge is take a blowdryer and lift the cover where ice should come out and blow it hot in there for about 3-5 minutes. Came back couple hours later and dropping ice. Cost free.
Links not working Edit: Got the links to work but the part number is different on my motor than in your link, my part number is w10309868 Thanks for the video again 👍
I live in an area that has only one very expensive service com. Last time I called them it cost me 250.00 for a lightvbulb. Any recommendations? See my next comment
On my second ice maker for this refrigerator..stop working after 6 months and replaced under warranty and 1 year later its out again.. …I gave my Frigidaire refrigerator to a neighbor after owning for more than 10 years I was never out of ice or had to replace ice maker…smh
UPDATE: I replaced the auger motor and toke successfully, followed the instructions for the diagnostics and test: ice maker filled with water and made ice. Ice also dispensed successfully. Went back 3 hours later - ice was not dispensing (motor was not turning). Opened the door and closed the door, ice was dispensing. Went back an hour after that: Ice not dispensing. Opened door and closed door, ice dispensed. Now Ice no longer dispenses. What could have gone wrong? This was resolved soon after the parts were replaced.
UPDATE II: I removed the ice bin, spun thr auger to ensure it wasn't frozen then aligned it with the placement of the yokes position and replaced the bin. Ice has been dispensing consistently every time since. Issue resolved and ice dispenser is 100% functional.
My problem is that I can’t even take out the ice box. It says to push the button and pull but it’s not working . It’s a new fridge and it has ice cubes in it
Call the manufacturer. Technician should come take care of it for you. Sounds like ice build up where it’s not supposed to be. May have to thaw fridge to get it out without breaking things.
These things must be junk. Mine also went out after 2 months of buying the fridge. My wife got cancer around the same time, putting everything else in life on the backburner for a while, and I forgot about addressing it until the warranty had already run out. Reading the comments, this seems to be a common issue. I wonder if this is a planned breaking point to funnel money to their licensed repair services.
I've had this same refrigerator for years and never had a problem with it. I'm only here because I did a search for the little flap where the ice comes out is getting stuck and not closing sometimes. Probably just needs to be cleaned.
So I followed directions on how to disassemble and reassemble, then I added the washer, locking washer and plumbers tape. I did not replace yoke. It's alive😂😂
I’ll truthfully Venmo you $20 if you can tell me which diagnostic modes there are to test my ice maker. I have this very model fridge and the ice machine stopped making ice. For my family, it’s an emergency thanks!

How do you clean the chute? It's nasty inside. I can't get my hand inside to clean it.
What clip? At the beginning you say lift the clip to remove the unit, but the "clip" isnt shown. I cant get mine out and I dont see any clip.
Good luck!
Do you know how to adjust the cube size on this model? ours makes huge cubes which tend to link together and then want to jam things up.
There is a button to press on the front to change the ice from cube to crushed.
do you have a video on how to fix the fridge from not making any ice on this specific fridge?
Prone to not making ice. You can order the whole assembly off of Amazon
you are the man!
What do you do if you can’t get the ice unit out? Ours is stuck.
Was this making ice but it wasn’t coming out? Or it wasn’t making ice at all?
Auger motor not spinning or tries to spin. Motor is getting voltage. Actually measured higher than 110v. Solenoid is ok. Door switch is ok.
Replaced the auger motor and still has the same issue.
Any ideas to troubleshoot?
Which Whirlpool model is shown in picture? Thank you
Our auger is fine....its just not making any ice at all. It has happened before but started working again after a couple days by itself. This has stopped making ice like 3-4 times now. I can't find a diagnostics manual to interpret the codes anywhere.
How do you know what repair is required? How do you troubleshoot it? Right now I can’t even get the plastic door open off the ice maker.
Did you find out your problem if you did please let me know
Thank you! Helped me out today big time!
How can I tell if the yoke is moving?
Good luck!
The flapper in the ice chute maybe not closing
I have the same problem did you find the solution? I can’t even take the ice maker out it’s too full.. I’m thinking it’s the water filter it says I need to change it?
question if you don’t connect the ice marker will it affect the refrigerator?
Where is the fill tube for the ice maker located on this unit?
I have whirl pool French door style fridge with middle drawer model # wrx735sdhz03 we have had it for less then two months now for second time it stopped producing ice. I was told the unplug 30 second trick then push the arm up 3 times to reset it. The first time this happened after a month in our home it worked. But now nothing. Any suggestions. Thanks so much
Hi..,we’re having the same problem with the same model…did you ever figure it out?
Hi, my same model refrigerator stopped making ice and the water comes out warm. It’s about a year and a half old.
Where is the link to order part?
I did a diagnostic 25 and then 5 came up . What does that mean. The whirlpool is little over a year and recently not producing ice
Well what the hell did you use to take the panel off I can’t see in there did you use a Phillips ?
Did you ever get it off? Im also having trouble
Is there a trick to putting the ice tray back in? Sometimes, mine makes a growling noise and I have to pull it out and do it again.
Make sure that your ice tray auger flange in back of tray is aligned properly to the auger motor yolk.
yep lance is right. Have to line the Yoke up with the tray.
thanks for helping out!
I have this ice maker but no water is filling the ice maker but the water dispenser does work. What is going on where no ice is being made???? Thanks
This same thing happened to mine. It doesn’t fill or make ice but the water works just fine. Did you figure it out?
Thanks man very helpful
I soldered all the wires back together and I'm getting power to all the wires, but I'm not hearing any water squirt into the trays.
What the part number for the ice maker?
How did you remove the dispenser? We've been pushing the button to the right and pulling, but it won't budge.
Great video
Do you have an updated link to the yoke? The one listed expired.
Looks like it is not on amazon anymore. Here is the part number if you still need it. 63052-2
Hi my WP fridge is a 2018 and my ice maker is not like the one in this video. The door dispenser runs but no ice comes out.
So I have the same fridge but the dispenser quit and its still making ice and idk what to look for any advice
So helpful thank you :)
Cost free.
Sounds like the door where the ice comes out of is stuck and letting warm air go up that ends up making the ice stick to each other.
You have the same fridge as mine I’m trying to see why is my food , veggies are freezing !!!!! Have you ever had this problem??
hold the temp button on the ice maker panel and turn it up. should be at about 37°f
My ice box doesn't want to come out--seems stuck. Pressing the button, but it doesn't slide out.
I have the exact same issue with the exact same refrigerator
I need help with my refrigerator, when I connected the water hose, the water in the ice dispenser did not stop.
Water valve
Links not working
Edit: Got the links to work but the part number is different on my motor than in your link, my part number is w10309868
Thanks for the video again 👍
Links are working on my end. You get them to work?
I have same one but mine dispense water, but there is no water in ice maker why?
What if the water is not filling?
I have the same fridge 6 months old!! Same issue.
So infuriating for a very expensive fridge
It is under warranty and that motor is expensive. Let them cover it under warranty, All new appliance have at least a year warranty.
I can't even get the ice box out at 0:14 😒
Possible to weld that bad boy instead of replacing?
Someone in the comments welded it to fix it.
I'm guessing the motor died in mine, as it's not making a sound when you turn it on.
Job security...a stripped driveshaft on a motor, why couldn't be the auger?
I can’t even get the ice tray door open: it’s like stuck and I pushed the button hard and wiggled
I just JB welded mine
It still makes ice
I’ll truthfully Venmo you $20 if you can tell me which diagnostic modes there are to test my ice maker. I have this very model fridge and the ice machine stopped making ice. For my family, it’s an emergency thanks!
I am so done buying ice maker refrigerator any more
2 week old Fridge and im now I’m searching for others that have had the same issue
Week 1 no ice, first was no water and some ice and now no ice and some water.
This is so complicated just to turn it on
Had to cut my yolk off.
