This video will help you diagnose ice maker on a Kitchen Aid/Whirlpool refrigerator. First thing you want to do is check error codes for the ice maker. Hold the left most button on the user interface for 3 seconds. The control will show a count down during this process. Number 01 pops up. You want to go to number 56. This is the ice maker error code test. E2 is ice maker lost motor position error. Nine times out of 10 the ice maker is bad when this is the case. Go ahead and replace the ice maker and it should work for you. Good luck and like and Subscribe!

Well, actually one needs to unplug the refrigerator. I bought from these guys a new ice maker, replaced it following these instructions (with the power on) and I still had the E5 code on and no ice. I unplugged power, left it without power for about 40 minutes, plugged it back again let it hum a couple of hours and checked again. Code E5 is gone and the refrigerator makes ice again. Thank you
Thank you! I followed your video and replaced my ice maker. You made me realize it's not too difficult to do. I swapped it out in 40 minutes. I'm sure I saved hundreds of dollars because the part was only $90! I had to do a hard reset the next morning, unplugging the fridge for 10 minutes because it wasn't dispensing ice after replacing it. This worked to reset the control board, I now have ice in the bin!
THANKS SO MUCH! I learned more information about my Whirlpool fridge from your 'precise and easy to follow' video than I have from the last dozen I tried to watch for help. YOU ROCK! Because of the information you provided, I was able to determine by the codes that the ice maker itself was error free, but that one side of the water inlet valve had failed. Therefore, I was getting water to the water dispenser, but no water going to the ice maker to make ice with. So much information, in so little time, thanks to you, sir! Great video. I would have never figured this one out on my own. One additional comment- the new icemaker has to be perfectly in position with no wires caught underneath the icemaker unit or the cassette lid will not go back in place like it should and the cassette will not fit back into the fridge. Thankyou so much for putting this out there for the rest of us.
This video is really great, and I appreciate it. I've watched it several times until it sank in. Unfortunately, I'm still confused as to what my problem might be, and I might have to call a service tech. I have a family and money is tight, and I really don't want to have to do that. Low or no ice production. New water filter from known good reseller. Service Test 15 - Ice Level sensor passes. Service Test 56 - Ice Maker Error Codes: E0 - no errors. Service Test 59 - Ice Maker Motor, passes, both directions. Service Test 57 - Ice Maker Harvest - Will dispense any ice that is in ice maker. Service Test 45, Ice Maker Water Fill Test: Passes. If anyone has any advice, I'd certainly appreciate it.

This is a great video! I changed out my ice-maker (found on eBay) today by following it. A couple of minor points. You have to push in on the flange next to the water line with a screwdriver to get the tube out. Otherwise, it will not pull out. Also, once you get the plastic cover off the ice maker box, be careful of the styrofoam sheet that is exposed. It is very thin and fragile. The ice maker wire plug connection is tiny and you can accidentally crack the styrofoam trying to unplug it. My fridge had two light plugs under the large ceiling panel instead of one, but not a big deal. Altogether a great guide!
Was it necessary to turn the water off to the fridge before removing the water line?
Saved me a lot of pain this video did. Only problem I had is that whoever drilled the holes for the front of the ice maker part drilled them at a angle, but enough work and it went back, never gonna open this piece of work back up again

Its way more cheaper to hire an appliance repair man to fix it than buying a new fridge. New French door is at least $2500.

First thanks for the kitchenaid diagnostic video which helped me figure out what the problem was with my ice maker in that exact fridge. Turns out it was the motor. This video gave me the confidence to think I could tackle the job myself. I ordered the part and used your video as a tutorial. Took about 45 min and 24 hours later I have ice!!! Total cost $107.

I have the same fridge. We weren't getting any error codes. Oddly enough, Test 59 would find position one direction and not the other ... but we had no error codes.
After running Test 19 (Heater) for about 5 minutes, I ran the test that ejects the ice (I think it was 57) prior to running the water fill test for the ice maker. When I did, I heard some small bits of ice fall out.
After doing this, I had ice in the door the next morning. Hoping it was just some ice gunking up the works that got broke out from heating it up and cycling it. If you have no ice in the door but have no codes, it's worth a shot. A new ice maker is like $130 (on amazon, from the link provided, as of yesterday). Don't throw money at the problem if you can warm it up for 5 minutes and let it ride another day.

Excellent video. Thanks a bunch! My ice maker is erratic. The ice bin was a bit low in the morning when it usually fills up at night from its typical half full level. So, after watching your video and finding my tech sheet per your directions I did a test and got a zero code. Three seconds later the ice maker dropped a load of ice just. Sometimes the bin gets much lower than this time. So now I know where to start right away next time for diagnosis. Thanks much for posting your video ! I'm saving the bookmark in case I have to replace the ice maker or something in it.
BTW for others. If you don't want to be replacing the auger motor or shaft in the ice bin just reach into it once a day with a clean hand and stir/break up the ice so it is not clumped up.

I know he said when you get the screws out of the ice maker housing to pull down you should pull out it slides into clips if you pull straight down you can break one of the Clips off I know cuz that's what happened to me when you get the screws out pull it straight out make sure you support the back cuz it will drop otherwise this was a great video really help me out and save me a lot of money thanks

Great video. You just saved me some money. ice maker was returning 02 on clockwise. took off the icemaker faceplate to check if something was frozen. Fiddled with the auger and put it back. Bingo...let there be ice in the bin again..lol...both rotations are back to 01..Thanks again

Thank you. My ice maker quit on my Whirlpool Gold. Pulled the diagnostic sheet from the upper hinge and found I had the E2 error code. I ordered the ice maker from Amazon, and came across your video. Installed the ice maker in about 20 minutes. A short time later I had ice again. Well done video.

This is a GREAT video--I was able to fix my kitchenaid no problem with your help. One note: after I installed the new icemaker it initially showed the same error code as prior to the repair. Recycling the power to the refrigerator (turn off and on at the breaker box) cleared the error and the new icemaker is working just fine after this fix
I’ve tried several attempts to do the test but not seeing error code E02 in mode 59, I took a chance and replace with a new ice maker anyways. Thanks to your video I followed every step by step which makes it very easy to disassemble the ice maker. After 24 hrs it was making ice again and hoping it will continue to make ice when it gets low, my old ice maker was making intermittent ice so hopefully this new one will fix that problem. THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video and it definitely helps me out big time. God bless and stay safe out there!!!

Great video but the link is wrong. Amazon sent a part with the wrong number of connectors. Installed it anyway and of course got 02 error codes.
Were you able to figure this out? I also ordered from the link but yes, it has changed now so that two connectors are now one connector and I’m not sure what to do. It’s the right number of wires but they’ve changed so that all six are on one connector where they were split before…
I had to wait 24 hours for it to start droping ice. Also I wasn't pushing buttons #3 to start the test so it must have had to reset over night since I never did 59,45 test or power down reset. Thank you very much for this video. 😃
Hey thank you sincerely for your time for explaining. I did this while I watched your video. After installation everything went well it made ice about maybe 8-10 ice pieces then it stopped making it. What can this potentially be? Where should I look in order for me to figure out why it stopped making ice?
Great video. I had the same thing happen to me and this helped a ton. Rather than replacing the ice maker I took mine apart and made sure the gears were able to spin that powered the auger. I got an 01 and the it started working again when I put it back together. Worth a try before replacing.
I’m getting E2 error on both tests run. Motor doesn’t even make noise so I guess it’s completely out but my bottom ice still works so I just use that one. Lol

Thankfully, I checked another person’s video after watching yours and almost destroying my water line. Mentioning that you need to depress the yellow tab on the water line would be helpful to others so that they don’t cause extra problems.

Me to but I used a blow dryer to melt the ice jammed inside box of ice maker then the motor rotated and got the 01 code. At first it was a 02 code thought I needed a motor. Glad I didn't.
I had a newer kitchenaid so there were several more wiring harness connectors, and the part number was different, but most everything else was the same. Thank you!
I just completed the installation of a new Ice Maker. I followed all the steps and Ta Da! I hear it working. I thoroughly enjoyed the step by step video and I will share with my neighbors who have the same fridge and Gold Series line of appliances. I am hoping for another 6 years out of this refridge! Really appreciate this video. Just swapped out my icemaker with it. Although it failed the icemaker and motor test, I’m not convinced it’s the issue. I probably should’ve done some additional diagnostics beforehand. There was a little ice on the back of the compartment the icemaker sits in when I pulled it out. We’ll see how things go. At least I know the icemaker works.
Let me know what you find please. I replaced the ice maker and it worked for one or two cycles the stopped. I also had the ice in the back.

Sounds like you have an air leak between your fresh food section (fridge) and the ice box. You can try sealing the seam between the icebox and the back wall of the fridge and that should eliminate the leak and prevent further ice build-up.

Not sure how long it will hold up, but ours was failing the CW & CCW test as well. I just removed the door cover, reran the CCW test and manually assisted the motor and it started to run. I then ran the CCW test a couple more times, then re ran the CW test a few times and it passed every time. I cleared the E2 code and now it’s been working perfectly for the last 2 weeks. Just a $0 option for your viewers to try before replacing the ice maker.

Thanks for this. My Gold Series ice maker stopped making ice after 5 years. I ran across this video with a very similar Whirpool like mine and ordered the part through your link. Once I received the part, got it up and working in 30 minutes.
This video was extremely helpful. I was able to switch out my old ice maker and install new one. It started making ice....however I have run into a new problem. My water line is freezing up and it didn't before. I have cleaned coils, defrosted the refrigerator. It started working again after that but froze up again. Any suggestions?

Great video easy to follow. Just changed out the ice maker which I ordered from your link. I still get 02 on both test 59. I can see it turn in both directions but I guess it never find the home position. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have ice!
Update: 40 hours after replacing the ice maker still no ice. Still fails to find home position on clockwise and counterclockwise.

great video... I've had some friends who used to do fridge maintenance and they said 90% of the time the ice maker is just frozen... and all it needs is to use a hairdryer on the whole thing... dry it o ff and put back in. Now... I figure I'll still put in a replacement cause I don't want to do the job twice........but for those that are quick with their tools...... you might try this.

I have the same style of ice maker and fridge. Have water dripping from the first panel you removed in your video. Is a cracked or broken water line common for this kind of unit?

Thanks for the walkthrough. Because of this, I’m back in action with plenty of ice.
Instructions were perfect until I went to replace the ice maker. Both have three larger wires with harness, but the new ice maker only has one more wire harness with six wires and the old ice maker (same as video) has two more wire harnesses (one with two wires and one with four wires). I may try to cut/splice the two white wires from ice maker and connect to red/brown wires in other harness unless you have any other suggestions. I checked and both new and old ice makers have some part numbers.

The only difference I had on my whirlpool was different numbers to run the CW and CCW test for 59. But the spec sheet you pointed out cleared that up.

Thank you fro this video! I found this on YT a while ago and finally got the part to replace and did it about 10 min ago. Weirdly when I disconnected my water tube it didn't have any water in it, but it's also been about 5months since my ice maker stopped as well. I did the tests like you did at the beginning of the video and my old part didn't do anything. Got the new one in and did the tests, it worked. Now to see if i get ice.

finding the service info on board testing was gold, now maybe I'll be able to track down the reason my interior lights and cold cut drawer stop working until I unplug the unit for fifteen minutes. Boards were too expensive to take a guess. I've already had to change out a defective icemaker water control valve, pricey part because they combined the water and ice maker supply solenoids into one assembly

When my problem first started, I was getting zero response with test 56. After replacing, test 56 does both clockwise and counter clockwise tests, but I get E2 for both :(

THANK YOU! I'm calling the Whirlpool Authorized Technician that came to my house and in 10 seconds and $87.00 later told me I needed a new ice maker, and requesting a refund. His cost would have been around $300.00 to do the work. I changed it myself for $60.00 and still no ice. Then I saw this video OMG why is it that EVERY Whirlpool tech does not know how to run this diagnostic or where to find this tech sheet? Finally I ran all of the pertinent tests for the ice maker and found the Ice Level Sensor was not right. At least I know now where to look.

Thank you for this video. I was able to buy the icemaker for my Whirlpool and replace it. It was pretty easy. Now the question I have is . . . How does the motor lose it's home position? Couldn't you just pull the motor out and reset it - what exactly is the home position signal. Seems like this error could be fixed with a reset of the ice motor. Also, this didn't fix my issue - my fan went out too.
Very helpful, thanks! Exactly the same steps for my Jennair. I probably would've broken a clip or two trying to guess my way through. I pulled mine all apart to verify the part number (I was getting conflicting information referencing it). Upon putting everything back together while I wait for the part to come in, I reran the two tests... now they pass! But I still get an E2 error code🤨. We'll see what happens, I'll try to remember to update this.

When I run the 56 diagnostic test on my Whirlpool french door fridge, I get error code E1. No cooling. Ice Maker timed out. Ice compartment unable to reach desired temperature. Possible cooling or fan issue. Does this mean my ice maker needs replacing or is this another problem or cooling fan issue? How do I fix this? Thanks for your help.
I had the same issue after replacing my ice maker. I unplugged the fridge and waited a minute then plugged it back in. E1 went to E0.
Easy to follow. We had an E2 but now we have an E0. Got the new ice maker installed just fine, so we thought. Keep pushing buttons and overfilling ice maker water. Replaced water filter too. Totally confused. Took about 2 hours to do because my husband had to stop and rest. Now it's around 50° in the fridge and we're not sure what to do. We can't find our paperwork. It got moved to somewhere safe.🙄
Thanks for this great video. =) I was able to replace my ice maker and now the wife is happy. =D One thing to note: I believe my model was slightly newer than the part's model, so the wiring between the two was slightly different. I ended up having to cut off the connector on the replacement part, and then splice on the connector from the old/broken unit. After that it worked great -- but it might be daunting to somebody without electrical experience.
Yes this is correct. Seems like the wiring harness for the new one is a little bit different.
It did make it a bit tricky for the average person.
I’m not sure if there is an updated part number that has the two connectors separate but this Update one will be too complicated for most people. As you had to snip wires and connect the old wiring harness that was missing from the new one.
If the original poster of this video could update the part number that would be very helpful.

@@stephenmartin7907 I have this issue currently, the test for both clockwise and counterclockwise has given me a 02, I was thinking that the ONE modular was an updated version that would hook into the one location (black) but it doesn't seem to be the case since I'm still failing both tests with a 02. Any tips on how to splice the wires using the older broken ice maker with the extra small (white) modular?

Perfect video, all tests passed! One issue, now my top lights won't go back on. Any pointers? Went back through and checked all the connections...

Thanks for the video it was super easy to follow along... our ice maker had been down for a long time had I known it was so easy I would have swapped it out sooner!
Thank you for this video. It helped me get an answer to why ice isn’t being made. The code said bad ice make thermistor. Do you know where that thermistor is located? The tech I hired indicated it was part of the ice maker itself, but after replacing I still don’t have ice.
