To answer Justine's question about red cabbage vs green with sausage.... red cabbage is sweeter and it tastes much better with the sausage then green does. I make a similar dish but I add onions and a small amount of olive oil to the pan first. Then add the red cabbage plus lots of salt then slices of kielbasa. Cook on medium low til cabbage is tender. It is very good on a cold winter night with some cornbread.

I do cabbage with garlic and olive oil, sausage, and potatoes in the pan. Once cooked, the cabbage doesn't have the same issues with digestion that raw cabbage does. And the garlic helps, too. Add some cornbread, and it's a great meal.

Cabbage is very high in vitamin "C" so it's very good for you.
The difference between red and green cabbage is that red cabbage possesses additional nutrients when compared to green cabbage. The green cabbage is usually preserved during winter for usage, whereas red cabbage stays fresh in winter without being pickled.

Ron doctoring that pudding up reminded me of my father in law who would put butter on bread with sugar and drown it in milk and call it desert.😂

My family had a farm with a sugar bush and Grandpa made his own maple syrup . For dessert we would butter toast, then take a bite with a tiny spoon of maple syrup.
You'd be sitting there with a custard dish of syrup just nibbling and spooning away.

Lard is rendered fatback off a hog. When being rendered the biproducts float to the top of the melted fat, are skimmed off, and known as cracklings. We always made lard. It takes a low to moderate heat and lots of time to slowly render. Rendering removes the water so that the lard will keep for a long time. Great for cooking and pie crusts!

You both do such a great job and it is all so exciting to watch. When serving fried cabbage, adding sliced apples may help the flavor so Ron scarfs it down as quickly as the sausages. Of course, working hard in the wintertime to stay warm does afford hearty appetites. You both are wonderful!

I stumbled across your channel this morning… it brought back many memories from my childhood! In the late 60 and 70s, when not popular to do so, my parents decided to live on the grid! We had an old wood cook stove, which came from an old ship… I learned to cook on that stove. We’d get the cook stove so hot at times we’d have to open the doors to cool the house down! We heated with wood with a fireplace also. We had an out house and hulled our water, and had no power. I learned skills no one my age knew. Now when my own family has lost power I can always find something to do without power!
Later my parents broke bovine into yokes (oxen)and used them to pull a Mitchell wagon. They did Numerous school assemblies teaching the history of the Oregon Trail, demonstrating how life on the trail would’ve been…They also drove the Oregon trail with their oxen and Mitchell wagon… Some may know of the Tucker family, with the Mitchell wagon. They also stayed at Dalles Oregon in 19 93 or 94 To celebrate the Oregon Trail… Some may remember…
