I made some potato cakes a couple of weeks ago almost the same as yours Angela! Left over steamed potatoes which I mashed, dried mixed herbs, gluten free flour, one beaten egg and grated vegan cheese (I'm gluten and lactose intolerant). I put them in the oven and then did a quick turn in the wok with some sunflower oil to crisp up the surfaces. The last one I had the following day was fried. They were so delicious!

They are very easy to work with and their network of artisans is huge. They even have volunteer potters who might want to come. Indy isn’t terribly far from you- maybe four hours? I’ve done artwork for them and they’re wonderful.

Up here in Vermont, we've been getting plenty of snow. This will be the 4th day I've had to shovel. (I'm a senior citizen and oy vey, my back is already sore!) You should see all the snow on my roof and everybody else's. We'll be getting more snow the day after tomorrow and the temperature will dip below zero. My great grandma raised me, and she grew up during the great depression. Her mom had died when she was 2 years old, and she had 4 siblings. They were poor and she talked of times with hardly anything to eat. Mixing water with flour and baking it into biscuits. But she did make what she called potatoe cakes. She used left over mashed potatoes added egg yolks and would make them into small little "cakes", then fry them in whatever grease she had. Lard, cooking oil, bacon grease... Now days a lot of people add sour cream to them. Maybe try those instead! She taught me how to make homeade egg noodles for chicken soup, using just flour and eggs, hand rolling and cutting with a knife. They are delicious!

I make potato pancakes all the time. I take leftover mashed potatoes I add an egg or two (depending on how much potato I have) salt Pepper (sometimes garlic and/or parm. cheese) scoop them out with a spoon and make a ball and then roll them in some seasoned flour (sometimes if the mixture is to wet, I will put a little flour in the mixture) and flatten them and then fry them in about a half inch or so of ( so they will float and not stick to bottom of pan) bacon grease or butter until browned. Serve them with butter or gravy. You'll have to experiment a little with the ingredients so the cake stays together and not fall apart. But that is how I do it.

I was watching cherry pie video. Try a "cup a cobbler". It's 1 cup flour, 1cup sugar, 1cup milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1cup of sugared fruit (with the syrup the fruit makes) 1 "stick" butter (1/4cup). 1/2 teaspoon salt. Mix dry ingredients with milk and vanilla. Pour into baking dish. Pour or spoon fruit and syrup over top. Slice butter on top. Bake at 425 for 40-45 minutes or till golden brown. May add cinnamon on top before baking. Enjoy! Love your videos also.

The portrait is lovely. The reason our forebears drink so much beer, ale, mead, wine, and cider, is because 1.) it provided necessary vitamins not in their food, 2.) it provided needed calories, and 3.) it was safer than the chancy water supplies. The alcohol content was at least half of what it is today, so it wasn't like everybody was staggering around smashed. Even children drank the stuff.

I would take out the wine and add chopped onions and salt n pepper. Probably would taste better. Love the portraits, what a great idea 👏👍

Substitute mushroom katsup for the wine in the cake with salt butter and onion powder and omit the sugar in the sauce. Just do melted butter and mushroom katsup

The potato cakes I make are shredded potatoes with a little bit of a pancake-like batter mixed together and fry them. Topped with plumb sauce yum.

Hi, Do not hang the painting in front of the fireplace. It will get destroyed. The heat and the sit will ruin it. You should place it in another room where the heat is indirect! Lovely painting, I have been subscribed for a while, first time commented. Thank you for your vids keep up the excellent work, God Bless!

I have never heard of potato cakes made that way...lol. I make my potato cakes with day old mashed potatoes, flour, salt, pepper and then fry them in butter🧈 Sooo good!

My mom made potato patties all her life, those were fried and I expected these to be. They both share some ingredients but not all. I wasn't expecting them to be baked.

In the book "The Pioneers" by David McCullough, it mentions about the earthquake damaging buildings in Marietta OH. Very good book if you haven't already read it!

You might want to take a look at Fannie Farmers Cookbook written in the 1800’s if you haven’t already. Modern copies of this cookbook can be found online. I found her recipes to be very interesting!

I lived in Mackay , Idaho in 1983 for the 8.4 earthquake. I lived in a cabin up in the mountains pretty close to the epicenter. I was told it was under our outhouse. Anyway...the cabin rolled with the quake! It shook out all of the chink, but the structure was fine. Even the sod roof withstood it! Anything brick was toast, though.
