This is a good channel due to the authenticity of the people and the attention to detail to the period of time that they cover. It really has a feel of living in America in the 1820s. Maybe someone out there is doing a channel about life in the 1920s. Keep up the good work.

That dress looks beautiful! It looks like an 18th century dress. Do you know if it was more common to preserve special occassion clothing in its original condition, or to adapt it into newer fashions (when there was enough fabric to do so, of course)? I recall that there are multiple surviving dresses from the 19th century with evidence of alterations, and/or fabric that was dated to a previous era.
Both were done. I have also seen gowns that have been altered to fit a later period's fashion. It just depended on the preference of the gown's owner.
I do love your dress. You are right that is a scoop. Butter paddles are flat at the bottom. What a lot of lovely gifts.

Congrats on your plaque: gorgeous dress--I had ancestors from New Orleans and they would have worn something like your dress there on Christmas and New Years (called Repast) when there were many, many dinner parties in town...they often lasted for a week or more...you look lovely in red--it is your color...dts/usa

I recently found your site on You Tube and I love the 2 of you. It's fun to watch you cook using a fire place! Wow! It's so fascinating. I don't know the background for your show but I did see an episode where Ron brought home 2 rabbits and a duck and you made a lovely feast. I know you are struggling to make a good life for each other. And then the landlord came and stayed for dinner. It really bothered me that he seemed to time his visit around your dinner time and take advantage of your kindness and the situation. I hope this will not be an occurring predicament. Invitations are wonderful but moochers? Not so much. Silly of me to even mention this but it did bother me enough to have to write to you about it.

Hi: About those lovely wooden gifts that are painted with a girl and boy; they may be butter paddles. And that wooden 'cookie cutter' may be a butter mold! I'm not sure about the longer one, but I'm sure it's another similar kitchen tool. Perhaps a stirring paddle? If the others are butter-making tools, perhaps that one is, too.
