Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up.
Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

There's a reason why B-M is considered a "musicians band".
Just the 3 at the back: Kanami on lead-guitar, Misa on bass and Akane on drums are by many musicians considered very skilled. Bass and drum are always in the pocket playing of each other, while the guitar has become prominent with the years, with Miku's improvements as rythmguitarist.
When the band was formed, she was supposed to be the singer. Though she was kind of experienced, with her past from an idol-group, which was split up in 2012, it soon proved that her voice was too sweet for rock. It was kind of a self-realisation moment for her, so they brought in the 19 year old Saiki from same management as Miku. With 2 singers they wondered if one could play guitar. Miku volunteered, and got Kanami as teacher.

@@GreatStonedDragon You may try their early song FREEZER, there is a video with lyrics (including English translation) at Blogspot. It's an amazing masterpiece of dual vocals, that's how Miku imagine it initially when hiring Saiki to help her. But later it became clear that Saiki's voice is a rocky one, really fitting the style BAND-MAID aspired to, and Miku switched to backing vocals. But her backing vocals are really great, she's moving around a lot. It's more like a hype man in Rap, having his own vocal line all the time.
Band-Maid has a lead guitarist and a lead bassist.
And a lead pigeon.

Definitely hard rock - and IMO the best hard rock band in the world! Thanks for checking out the maids!! You can really pick any song of theirs at random and it'll be very good to OMG, but you can wind up in almost any genre. Most of their music is very fun and uplifting, and have killer instrumental parts. Their concerts are a BLAST, and they do a lot of audience participation. If you want fast and crazy, and more "metal-y" check out their instrumental From Now On. Smoke em if you got em.

Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Don’t Let Me Down, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 32 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 33 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 31 years old. Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band.
Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. Poker shark and horse racing fanatic. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Definitely eccentric, possibly insane.
Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors. A sweet, motherly woman who turns into a beast when you hand her a guitar.
Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Completely unflappable. Frequently snacks between songs. Has been known to sign her banana peels and throw them to the audience.
MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls.
Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. Regards her band mates, especially Kanami and Miku, with bemused exasperation. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).
Welcome to the BandMaid experience. The greatest proper rock and roll band of the 21st century. Here's some opinions and facts:
•Bass solos are more likely to happen than not. There's a bass solo in their first video!
•Guitar solos are shorter, far shorter than you would like them to be
•Unless you are superhuman, you will not/ can not be able to pick up everything they're doing to make that song great on the first listen.
•Genre? Genres?? We don' need no stinkin" genre!
•You like a hard rocking crazy fast tune? Well how about it done as a slower acoustic version? They do that.
•April Fools Day 2019
As a joke they recorded a redo of Secret my Lips with traditional instruments and with lyrics in a Kyoto dialect. MV is stunningly beautiful.
•The linchpin member of the band gets the least notice/praise. The Mighty Miku Kobato founder/original lead singer steps back to make way for a new more hard rock vocalist. They want her to hold a guitar so she does and learns to play on the fly, performing all the while she's learning. So the person who willed the band into existence, who is the primary lyricist, the only member who sings and plays an instrument most of the time gets the least comments from reactors. Oh yeah she has her own signature model guitar from Zematis.
•10 plus years with the same line up. Think about that.
•More hooks, riffs and motifs in many songs than most bands have on an album. Check it out. No hyperbole.
•Use of puns, wordplay using homophones between Japanese and English are not the exception. They are typical of Kobato's lyrics.
•Despite the fact that their LIVE videos are superior to the official studio MV"s the latter are excellent. Funny, graphic, innovative and stunningly beautiful works of art describe what you get with BandMaid's official MV's.
•As close to the Beatles in terms of unique persona of the members as any group since the Monkees. MISA is quiet and drinks. Akane is happy and eats, Miku is klutzy and CUTE, Kanami is an airhead who crushes on Saiki and Saiki was the Ice Queen. But the Ice Queen has thoroughly thawed. See Yokohama's Endless Story! Their image is carefully crafted or spontaneous or both.
•Many songs have catch phrases or singalong sections to engage the audience. Many songs are in English and Japanese.Most songs are full of joy as well.
•They're having a ball. They enjoy performing. They enjoy the fans. They enjoy each other.
•Make no mistake, this is not a regular band.
Best rock band on the planet. They can play any genre. Try the MV of MANNERS.

Band-maid is hard to pin point on an genre. its pop punk (one could say emo) for sure but they do not limit them selves to any one category of Rock music. the unique thing is the composition.
they have great stage presence so anything live will not disappoint. but the music videos are good too like "Warning!" and "Unleash!!!!!"

You can't go wrong by listening to Moratorium, No God, Rinne, Onset, From Now On, Without Holding Back, Endless Story, About Us, Play, Why Why Why, and both versions (live and video) of Don't You Tell Me. They have a catalog of over one hundred great songs. If you are not fond of one then choose another because it will be much different than the one before it and the next one to follow. Have fun with it!

Band Maid is not a metal band, they call themselves a hard rocking maid band. That said they do use elements of metal in songs and some really dip into metal (Rinne) and often metal elements like Akane’s double pedal work. That said they kick ass and are amazing live. Hell I put a Band Maid patch on my metal battle vest of great bands I have seen live. Only other non metal band on it is Santana. Oh and Konami’s’ (lead guitar) favorite guitarist is Carlos Santana. The crew will be here giving history and suggestions and they will lead you to other killer songs as they have a deep catalog.

In context with the lyrics of the song, go back and rewatch the back and forth between the guitar and the bass. It's not a battle or duel, but rather an argument. An argument between the boyfriend (bass) and girlfriend(guitar). The bass starts the argument, the guitar answers back. The bass says something snarkey. The guitar mocks the bass back. Going back and forth until they eventually just start yelling at each other at the same time, with the guitar (the girl) ending the argument and having the last word. Lalalala LALALALALA!!
