This performance was less than 12 hours after they performed at the Lollapalooza "After Party" which oddly enough happened the night before. In 2022 they knew there were going to be performing at a lot of festivals in the US, so Saiki (lead singer) suggested to Kanami (lead guitarist) that they should create a "kick ass" instrumental song to grab people's attention. The idea worked at Aftershock in 2022, they started off with a few hundred people there to see them, and their set ended with several thousand people watching them. The instrumental is named, "From Now On" and there is an official studio video of it on TH-cam, although there isn't an official live version yet.

This is what Rolling Stone had to say about Band Maid at Lallapalooza -- (Lallapalooza is by invite only) Japanese Rockers Band-Maid Put Guitar Center Showoffs to Shame There’s a pun to be made about how much Band-Maid ripped, but the Japanese group goes even harder than that. Fluctuating between hard rock, aughts nu-metal, and pop rock, each member of the quintet is a virtuoso in her own right with more than a decade of practice in Band-Maid alone. They lured curious onlookers into the fold when highlights like “Domination” and “Don’t You Tell Me” got huge reactions from the crowd, but it was the bass solo-versus-guitar solo duels mid-song that got the biggest cheers. This is what those guys in Guitar Center think their ridiculous riffing sounds like. Turns out it’s done best, and most effortlessly, by women in black-and-white maid dresses and frilly hair-pieces as they smile ear to ear. -N.C. The camera work was by a HULU crew and they sucked at it!!
They were so excited to be invited to Lollapalooza. They were the first act on so unfortunately the crowd started small and it was blisteringly hot in the sun, but they absolutely killed it and word really got around how amazing they were. They were selected to do a special featured show at a local venue the night before this, so they played a full show until about 1:00 AM and then had to be here to get ready for this 1:00 starting slot.
Going into the festival all the members were so fired up. They were the only Japanese act that got booked. Akane broke two drum sticks in this set. You can see the rack toms swaying due to the power of Akane's kick drum.
Her kit wasn't at all stable on that mobile platform, I've not seen her top toms bounce like that before. Her twin pedals came loose towards the end of No God as well which Daisuke had to sort on the fly.
The truly insane thing about this band is that it's ALL this good. There's simply no filler on any album or single, especially once the studio allowed them to write their own stuff. Anime tie-ins: Check out Different, Sense, or Shambles (see other comments for more detail). Also, Unleash!!!!! is an anime-style music video. The video is so good, it often distracts me from the music.
I live in the Chicago area and I swore never to go to Lollapalooza again until the maids were booked there. The lineup that day was pretty much my nightmare lineup except for the maids but it was worth it just to see them and I did find another band that was pretty good. The thing is I would love to see them get a better time slot at Lollapalooza and on a day where there was some similar bands either in the hard rock or metal genre so that more actual band maid fans would be there. A lot of the people in the audience were not familiar with the band but the crowd definitely grew during the performance as people wandered by and said what the hell is this?! If they do Lollapalooza again I really want to see them get a better time slot and even more importantly I'd like to see other bands that are somewhere close to the same type of music. Then they will get the attendance and enthusiasm that they deserve.
I I feel so lucky have seen this play this live at the concert right after this. I was blown away. Just know that everything you hear them do on their albums or music videos, they are able to do it live and even better. Also what the concert videos don't easily convey is that they interact with the fans. If you are down front. They WILL notice you. At one show I was at the front rail between Saki and Kanami. I realized Saki was looking at me-not in my general direction-but at me. I smiled at her and gave her a thumbs up and she winked. They really enjoy the fans.
Hardly anyone there knew who Band Maid was, except for a handful of Maidiacs, (one in full battle armor). They made new friends that day. That includes many members of other bands. This is one of the most creative songwriting groups in decades. That shock experience from people seeing little Japanese maids with guitars and then blowing them away with sound? The members of Band Maid have commented on how much they love that. If you thought this was interesting or entertaining? If you think you have them figured out? 😊 “From Now On,” official music video. Have good headphones 🎧
You gents should check out Play (official live video) or Domination (official live video) next. But then again, any Band-Maid song will do. They're all FIRE!
I was there and still never believe watching this how awesome it was. Over 90 degrees, heat index around 100 absolutely no shade and those women went as hard as they could for an hour. There was only about 10 percent there for band-maid but man people did get into them fast and not ready because everyone else in that stage that day was light pop music, after them Sabrina Carpenter played if that shows you anything. Also how many times can they do that in a show, at least twice if not more. That day the also did the Bass/guitar trade-off for Don't You Tell Me.
@@Bekka_Noyb did you go to the show the night before at Park West. I got to see them 3 times that summer and every show was different. At Park West I was literally about 2 feet away from MISA. Gary I've been and still am so sick I've got pneumonia and by the time my sister found me I was in really bad shape in pain with a pulse of 110. Anyway I'm improving so that's good. A lovely woman who lives nearby noticed the lack of activity and came over to check on me. I told my sister about the kindness that she had shown me and sister knew that there must be something wrong and got me to the Dr then the following morning to a variety of tests including a chest xrays. The imaging people were going to send me straight to hospital but my sister was able to give them the answers they wanted to hear. I don't think I've ever been this unwell.

@GaryHolloway-810 sorry to hear that you have covid but the more you are vaccinated the easier it is. Yes I'm very lucky. I actually had an endoscopy with pneumonia a couple of weeks ago. Band Maid was billed to perform around 1:45p on Friday (Day 2 of 5), after performing 15 hours earlier at the Lolla "Aftershow." So, people were still entering the venue resulting in a small crowd when the show began. By the end of the 1 hour set, there were a few more folks stopping by, unknowingly realizing that they were seeing a historic event, of Band Maid conquering the World, Po! Great reaction, Sirs! Btw, Wait till the 3.5 hr long Yokohama Final 2023 Bluray/DVD is released in Mar '24. They do this song set and it's superb. You'll take a couple of years to get through their repertoire, Po! 🦍🍌
Yep, they have done opening and closing music for several animes. "Sense" for Platinum Arrow, "Shambles" for an anime fight video, music for another anime titled"Days of Wine and Wind". They actually created their own anime video for their song titled "Unleash" from their EP of the same title. "Hate?" is on that track. They were featured in an action thriller filmed in Japan title "Kate". They are such talented musicians. They also have a softer side with their rock ballads like "Daydreaming", a lament about the Covid shutdown to their fans titled "About Us". It's absolutely beautiful, "Memorable' is their latest tribute to their fans from their tour of the U.S. last year. They have done an online acoustic oku-ji (concert) in December 2021. The songs from it are definitely worth watching.
Just to let you know, at several of their concerts after Lollapalooza, they played "Dice/Hate?" with that same conversation/duel and, of course, the audience went crazy!!!!!
You can see why they made friends with Incubus (with Tal Wilkenfield) at another festival and are collaborating in Japan in may. "We're not cool enough to play Lopalooza" incubus dude.
What do you get when you add a barefoot assassin a gorilla a princess a queen and a pigeon you get the living legends known as band maid the greatest rock band on the planet
Band Maid will go down as a legendary band. It is just taking the world a bit longer to catch up because they are Japanese women. If this band was made up of english speaking men, they would be considered one of the greatest bands of all time. They will get there, it just will take a bit longer. Great reaction guys. Rock on 🤘
I saw them with my daughter 2 days after this performance in Minneapolis. it was mind blowing to see it live without the crappy camera work done at Lollapalooza by HULU. There are some fan cams of the "Mini-police" {How Miku (red rose) sounds when saying Minneapolis} show to give you a feel for how they sound live through a phone. One of the best live bands I've heard..... I'm 56 and seen a lotta shows, from the end of a lighthouse pier sticking out into Lake Michigan to arenas to Alpine Valley. 🤘
Great to see you young gentlemen liking Band-Maid. It kinda made me look back to my late teens to 20s when I really loved Led Zep and some punk/new wave then going to metal with Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and a bit of Danzig then veering a little when the grunge scene from Seattle came out. Good times! But by the 2000s I lost my enthusiasm, good thing I came across one of their suggested videos last February 2023. I never looked back, I’m glad they’re here to save rock and roll! Awesome band, equally phenomenal and talented members.
I like your reaction to this video. As you stated, you don't see this kind of musicianship ( talk & response or duel between bass and guitar, or between any other two instruments) now a days. In my opinion, this is one of the reasons there are a lot of old farts like me who love this band. If these ladies/band had been around in the 60's and 70's when I went to a lot of rock concerts they would have definitely been on my short list of bands to see. As I am 70 now, they are the short list. Keep up the good work.
"I don't think I've ever seen a riff off like this." Hell, this was the second one on the set! They revisited a duel from their earlier days in a previous song this show.
Yes! They absolutely do Anime Theme Songs! They just did the season two closing theme for the Netflix anime, Kengan Ashura. It's called 'Shambles'. There is a LIVE version, but this is one of the few where their OMV is better than the LIVE, and the LIVE's pretty great. But even before that, they did 'Glory' for Yu-Gi-Oh, VRAINS. There are a couple others, but check out their very own Anime style OMV, 'Unleash!!!!'. It's like a taste of what a BAND-MAID anime would be like.

Guys keep the BM train rolling! Seen them four times including their gig in Mexico City. Talk about energy!!! More please ! Keep Rocking amigos!!!🤟🏼✌🏻👍🏼
The only bad thing is that the bass/guitar back and forth is live only! One of the things I like about these two is that it shows that they do different types of rock. Dice is fairly pop-punk. Hate? Is very hard rock almost metal, maybe progressive. To answer your question, yes, they have some anime songs. (Different) Log Horizon se3 open, (Sense) Platinum End se1 open, (Shambles) Kegan Ashura se2 close. The song Glory is also in an anime but not sure what. They have a new one coming out later this year.
It's too bad the video directory was 180° out of sync - they managed to avoid any image of Kanami during her solo in "Dice" and only caught up with MISA about half-way through the back-and-forth in "Hate?" The lyrics to "Hate?" are pretty brutal. Look up the English translation sometime. Apparently one of Saiki's friends had her marriage break up during the covid times and she didn't think much of her friend's husband. Here is part of a translation of an interview with Band-Maid on Natalie on September 22, 2022: Saiki: *_HATE?_*_ felt aggressive like “THE Band-Maid song” already from the demo stage, and I just had something that pissed me off right then (laughs), so I expressed my irritation in the lyrics. Also, I simply wanted to include the phrase “I hate you”._ Kanami: _It’s a phrase that makes you want to sing (laughs)._ Kobato: _It’s hard to find any other song where you can shout “I hate you” this many times, po._
This was recorded by contracted company for Hulu and they had no idea that Misa was one to watch so you hear amazing bass but the cameras are not on her.

Great reaction and when they hit the stage the temperature was between 95-100F. The girls later said this was the hottest show they've ever played. Also, the lyrics to HATE? were written by the main singer, Saiki, about her friend's husband caught cheating on her, which caused a huge scandal in Japan.

I was at their concert in Tokio on July 3rd last year, the first after their June break, and they already did the Dice/Hate? combination back then. Including the instrumental guitar/bass part. Lollapalooza was in early August 2023. So all the members were well aware of what was happening 🙂
They performed it the same way in the "aftershow" they did just a few hours before this, and at most, if not every, subsequent show on the 2nd leg of their U.S. and Mexico City tour last year.
Yes. This is the video everyone wants to see. This is when Band-Maid added their epic Bass/Guitar duel into 'HATE?' and introduced it to American audiences over the Netflix live stream. It's sooooo GOOD. Truly historic Rock. But Maidiacs who shelled the bucks out to watch the live stream of Band-Maid's Tour Final last Thanksgiving will tell you that this performance was repeated at Yokohama Arena with better audio and better video. @@dazedandconfused318 Daisuke is the man. Such a great tech.
I will be seriously disappointed if they don't get better timeslots next time they hit the festival circuit.
I genuinely think that call-and-response bass and guitar solo is the coolest musical thing I've ever seen. I love these ladies.
“From Now On,” official music video. Have good headphones 🎧
I was a Maid man already but what an awesome performance they put on. Cool suggestion with "From Now On" Mike.👍
"One in full battle armor" I'm guessing a maid outfit? Hahaha. I love the madiacs, it's so fun.
Gary Holloway always finds. You guessed it... :D
Yes From now on...
Well, that blew me away. (Also :)
Kinda wish I had went to that show 😳
@@Bekka_Noyb did you go to the show the night before at Park West. I got to see them 3 times that summer and every show was different. At Park West I was literally about 2 feet away from MISA. The front row was so close at her side of the stage you could reach out and touch her, not that I would even dare.
And before them was an EDM performance, just to give full context.
Went to see them in Philly back in 2022 & then like 8 months later in their 1st US show in Houston. Was late to Philly was in back. Paid extra for actual balcony seat (MISA's side) for Houston @@Dante94
there 4 more jaw-droppers from the girls you gotta see . ALL Live clips
1 Domination live 2020- more solo from the girls
2 Freedom - awesome extended drum solo into gtr solo moment
3 Real Existence - hi energy performance of an early single.
4 Lolla Festival opening song , the instrumental , From Now On, which surprised hell outa the crowd.
btw the whole of the Lolla set , 48 mins or so is up here on youtube , a lesson on how to crush a crowd with good songs and flawless power and endless enthusiasm.
After these 4 you will realise these girls are the best Hard Rock band on the friggin planet, hands down , no debate , and that's on a live basis. I haven't seen a jammin rock band like this band since I saw Led Zep live. And in fact Jimmy Page went to see them when he was in Tokyo, and is a big fan of Akane's drumming , and liked the gtr player Kanami as well. And that was a few years back too. Sometimes , true talent does get recognised , as it should be.
the drummer goes hard??? look at 13.34 in ur video! A- Chan crack the right stick and throw it away and grab the next viktim !!
Kanami lead guitar is on fire.
And, did you notice their smiles! The drummer is whaling, and smiles the whole, while Kanami is killing it on the guitar, AND has this big happy grin on her face. Misa, the bass player is known as the "barefoot assassin!"
Thrill is an awesome starter for people who haven't heard of these guys before just to break the ice. But this double proves that they have so much more to offer.
Not just pretty girls in maid outfits.
Thanks for your wonderful reaction. As you may have noticed, the filming staff for this live show only have the skills of part-timers who don't even know the difference between guitar and bass. BAND-MAID is not so lucky
It's certainly no Mirage, seeing really is believing that BAND-MAID have an oasis overflowing with awesome music :)

So nice that your neighbour saw something was out of the ordinary too. When it all comes down to it no matter how siblings moan about each other they always come thru when it really matters :)
@GaryHolloway-810 sorry to hear that you have covid but the more you are vaccinated the easier it is. Yes I'm very lucky. I actually had an endoscopy with pneumonia a couple of weeks ago. They said are you sick and I said yes I'm very sick and they said what's wrong with you. I couldn't believe it they are asking someone with year 10 education when we are standing in the middle of a hospital. They gave me a covid test and it was negative and I was good to go as far as they were concerned. I'm sure if I had died it would have all been my fault because the government is never at fault. Anyway it must have been a great concert . Hopefully you will feel better in a few days. I haven't been listening to much music I just don't feel like it. That was the best reaction! Please give us more BAND-MAID!
High performance live band.
Super cool‼️❤
You need "bandmaid corallium live at the eggman" for incredible brain frying precision and creativity. Stunning video quality too.
The top tier of the top tier and they remain humble and grateful unlike the plethora of arrogant a- holes in the business. What a fcken band Po 👍🍻
Just to let you know, at several of their concerts after Lollapalooza, they played "Dice/Hate?" with that same conversation/duel and, of course, the audience went crazy!!!!!
We love our MAIDS!
Exactly
🎀💝SAIKI ATSUMI💝🎀 Vocalist, Lyricist, Frontwoman/Performer, Sensei, Role Model, History Maker -- Happy Birthday, StarQueen!
They did two of those duels in that one-hour show. The other was in the song "Don't You Tell Me."
5:38 you should watch the beginning when they did a small sound check. Crowd went like damn and shut up
"I don't think I've ever seen a riff off like this." Hell, this was the second one on the set! They revisited a duel from their earlier days in a previous song this show.
Guys check out 2 new from band maid Yokohama. Dont you tell me and Hate again, both has bass battles and much better quality
Great job guys!!
This camera crew doesn't know what's important.
That for BAND-MAID they need more than 5 cameras.
For real. I don't think they managed to film the right person at the right time a single time.
Hey Adele and Taylor Swift- now THAT's a fuggin breakup song!!

Music can bring out some very powerful emotions in people. Band Maid is one of very few bands that I can honestly say that I would probably "fangirl" over if I saw them live. I can't explain it but something about the music just hits me completely different.
Guys keep the BM train rolling! Seen them four times including their gig in Mexico City. Talk about energy!!! More please ! Keep Rocking amigos!!!🤟🏼✌🏻👍🏼
They are incredible. I heard them live a few days later in Minneapolis.
The best ever ..Dice Hate and domination 3 best songs ever
Here is part of a translation of an interview with Band-Maid on Natalie on September 22, 2022:
Saiki: *_HATE?_*_ felt aggressive like “THE Band-Maid song” already from the demo stage, and I just had something that pissed me off right then (laughs), so I expressed my irritation in the lyrics. Also, I simply wanted to include the phrase “I hate you”._
Kanami: _It’s a phrase that makes you want to sing (laughs)._
Kobato: _It’s hard to find any other song where you can shout “I hate you” this many times, po._
This was recorded by contracted company for Hulu and they had no idea that Misa was one to watch so you hear amazing bass but the cameras are not on her.
The Queen's of Groove.. Nice reaction guys.. Do some more Band-maid.. It's very good for the soul..
Best wishes from France...

Great reaction and when they hit the stage the temperature was between 95-100F. The girls later said this was the hottest show they've ever played. Also, the lyrics to HATE? were written by the main singer, Saiki, about her friend's husband caught cheating on her, which caused a huge scandal in Japan.

7. With You; Smile of the Arsnotoria (Cluppo)

Such a great live band. Watch any live videos people recommend. So good.
Singer (and backing vocal as well) wasn't 100% after singing 18 songs overnight.
Rolling Stone magazine wrote them up being THE best band that day at lollapalooza.
My understanding is that Kanami (guitar) and Misa (bass) planned the battle but it was the first time the other members heard it live. Watch Saiki's (vocals) reaction and it kinda confirms this. Great reaction. I just subscribed.
I was at their concert in Tokio on July 3rd last year, the first after their June break, and they already did the Dice/Hate? combination back then. Including the instrumental guitar/bass part. Lollapalooza was in early August 2023.
So all the members were well aware of what was happening 🙂
Thanks for the eyewitness update. 🤓@@UltraHD.7
They performed it the same way in the "aftershow" they did just a few hours before this, and at most, if not every, subsequent show on the 2nd leg of their U.S. and Mexico City tour last year.
I feel like you couldn’t have slapped the smiles off your faces during the solo.
The 'HATE?' duel was one of many high points of that 3-1/2 hour long concert. Band-Maid flawlessly performed 33 songs that evening. These ladies do not disappoint: Band-Maid knows how to put on a show.
Band-Maid Anime themes:
Glory, Sense, Shambles, Different, Corallium
Well for Band Maid usual. We must not forget that the song isnt finished after Kanami had written it. Miku adds the lyrics, Misa determines which instruments she has to support when And Asami changes her drums accordingly.
*Akane, not Asami. Asami is the vocalist for Lovebites.
Saiki wrote the lyrics for Hate though.

The only bad thing about this video... it wasn't filmed by Band-Maid's crew. They miss sooooo much sh*t during both songs. Band-Maid deserves better!
"Lets listen to the transition" (as you keep pausing) LOL. When watching Band-Maid live its really hard to keep to format because of all the awesomeness happening. I noticed that when you pause a lot in your videos that means you like what you are viewing and hearing. This particular live video is a favorite for many Maidiacs but you really havent seen anything yet. Most of their live performances outshine this one by far (mostly because of the camera work and sound quality). If you want a glimpse of their real talent watch DOMINATION LIVE or any of their official live recordings to start.

The Lolla camera director has taken heaps of criticism on this already. I don't think he knew a lot about the band. When you have 5 super-talented artists on stage in front of you, and you are not familiar with the show ... imagine trying to direct this ... lol.
Can't fault him at all. The initial idea was probably Lead singer, energetic backup singer with an eye-catching guitar, and some one told him the drummer was dope and had a big smile. Plus it looked like they only had two cameras stage side.
Yeah we talked about it after we finished recording. Definitely weird to watch a video where they aren’t videoing the person riffing during the song 😂
They had a cameo on Mary Elizabeth Winstead's movie, Kate. They were playing Choose Me, which is one of their best songs.
That same song was also in episode 3 of Peacemaker.
