Why Do Owls Hoot?

Have you ever wondered why do owls hoot? and why do owls only hoot at night time? Owls can sound quite frightening in the middle of the night, but their calls all have their reasons.
All hoots were of Barred Owls.

There is this barred owl that has a repetitious hoot. At first I thought it was a loop tape of an owl. I took a walk in my neighborhood to try and locate the vicinity of this owl. I could still hear it a half a mile away. At the time I just thought some kid left a Halloween tape of a repetitive loop of an owl. After researching it, this barred owl does repeat the same call over and over again and never get tired of it!!
