Sorry about that. Scientists have been working on a cure for the barn owls strep throat for a long time now, but thus far have not succeeded.
I had a pet barn owl while I was in college that I rescued
*Monika:•*• not really, I’ve had birds all my life...parakeets, quail, chickens that would ride on the handlebars of my bike, ducks that would fly next to me as I water skied, conures, a cockatoo, and cockatiels, but raptors were always my favorite. My mom didn’t want me to keep him at first, but eventually he grew up and was beautiful. Would sit on my shoulders and preen my hair, and my dad and I would fly him at midnight. I released him back into the wild when he was ready at Eufala wildlife refuge. He kept flying back to me but eventually stayed.
I ADORE THEM.

Damn, this is almost a haiku! 😆
Im really into their big eyes they are the barn owl banshee scream
They are really beautiful animals in sky
They are cute, yet there's something very intimidating about them to me. They are very unassuming predators sometimes.
A pair of owls have moved into the neighborhood. They sound like horned owls. We've had a rat problem, so I hope they're here to clear that up.
That's probably why they are there, its part of their feed source, they must be Hungary✌🦉
To you it’s a rat problem.
To those owls, it’s an all you can eat buffet.
Yes when I hear them I think the same thing and began to celebrate *evil laugh*
A pair of owls lives in my neighborhood too, I hear them hooting at each other in the trees at night and am trying to figure out what they are. I'm pretty sure they're horned owls as well.

Currently up at almost 5am because of squirrels in my ceiling 😐 playing this very loudly through my speakers.. they aren't making a sound now lol

What a funny life hack! To scare mice in your house, play owl noises! XD
I also had squirrels in my attic they destroyed all my boxes I got a tape of owl call's 🦉🦉🦉🦉 and placed it up in the attic, never had any problems with squirrels again hahaha👍👍❤️
If you put a statue of one in your attic and/or outside, they will be looking for new living quarters.
Everything sounds lovely and calming, not to be outdone the barn owl swoops in and makes your blood freeze with a nazghul screech.
A fellow nerd. How are ya?
I think if I was walking through the forest at night and heard this dude, I'd poop myself!
Yeah you aren’t kidding 😂
If you think the barn owl is freaky, look up sooty owl calls. Sooty owls are in the same genus, by the way, so they're related to barn owls! (you'll probably notice the family resemblance in both their facial structure and their horrifying shrieks)

I live in TX and have had several kinds of owls nest/hunt in my area: Barred, Great Horned, and Barn Owl. I know all of their calls. A few nights ago I heard a call that was familiar but I couldn't remember what it was. Thanks to this vid I now know it is an eastern screech owl. I have never heard one here before, although I did hear them all through my childhood in WV. I had forgotten.

I just learned we have a screaming barred owl in our yard. I almost jumped out of the bed!
We don't enjoy such a variety of owls in the UK so I was surprised to discover so many birds with so many calls. The photos are showing the birds beautifully and the recordings are clear and long enough to really appreciate them. Our barn owls sound very much like yours. Thank you so much for sharing.
I am also from the UK, so making this video was a great chance to learn the Owls of NA. I do have a soft spot for our native owls - especially the tawny owl and short-eared. I am glad you enjoyed the video, many thanks for commenting.

@@oldfogey4679 I have only met 4 different types so far: the tawny owl, the eagle owl, the barn owl and one that mews like a cat (that was near Poole). The eagle owl was quite a surprise! I was trying to identify it as a bird of prey and couldn't find it so was leafing through the bird book and it happened to open at the owl section, and there was that bird! so large, and flying in the late afternoon so I never expected it to be an owl. I was once out searching for my kitten who had gotten out, in the middle of the night. As I reached the end of my block, out of no where, I heard a barn owl let out that horrific shriek, nearly emptied my bladder, and then saw it silently flying away about fifty feet away from me, thanks to full moonlight. Amazing how quiet the bastards are, but when they decide to make noise they go for it full throttle. At first I feared the worst for my Kimba, but the owl didn't eat him, I found him and got him home safe.
I think they only eat mice.

Those barred owls can get really loud when they decide to start hooting right above you.
Something else to consider that sounds like someone in extreme pain is a fox or coyote. The first time I heard what the fox said, I thought he was saying I'm a woman being brutally beaten! Truly terrifying in the woods in the middle of the night!!
@@DivaInTheWoods That's true, but in southwest, Iowa foxes are fairly uncommon. Also, it was too close to me for it to be a coyote; it would've been louder than that. I also hear coyotes nearly every night, and that wasn't a coyote, lol. The sound was coming from up in the trees. The only trees we have are near our creek; other than that, where I live is mostly fields. The trees we have are walnut trees, and their branches don't come down far. I like to play the calls through a Bluetooth speaker. I’ve had barred owls fly up and hoot for 30 minutes before. I love those lil buggers 🦉
@@ponolovefarms3926 just so you know, doing this is not good for the birds (same with replicating calls by voice, though that's harder and so less abusable). it's awesome to see the owls fly up to you but it is confusing for them and it puts them in kind of a bad spot when they really should be resting and saving their energy during the day. not to mention it puts them at risk of being spotted and marauded by diurnal birds like crows that they'd really do best to avoid. it's also a very bad idea in heavily populated owl areas or breeding seasons because it can instigate conflicts or hinder proper breeding between the owls. every once in a while it might be ok but really it's not recommended, even if it is an easy way to spot a cool owl.
@@thefolder69 I know when I am awake in the middle of the night, and woken up by a freaked out cat and hear an owl, the very first thing I do is think, I hope HE'S getting enough rest!!

One time heard two great horned owls hooting at each other. Usually hear barred owls. That was the first time I looked on TH-cam in the middle of the night for that reason.
veggieowlgirl same reason I’m watching now lol except I found out that my owl is a Barred owl :)
Edit: if you never ended up finding yours on this list, it helps to google native owls to your state and go from there ^-^
You’re an OWL!!
@@galleryg998 Yep, a veggie owl! 😁
veggieowlgirl :)
barred owl memory from my child hood. It sounded like "Who, who, who cooks for you all?"
Yes, haven't heard anyone else say that. It's true though, that's what we were taught they said as kids
Can confirm. I remember being taught that as a kid.
the boreal owl makes such beautiful noises, I actually got goosebumps...
Actually...all of them do
And the long-eared owl sounded exactly like I imagined for some reason
0:08 majestic hoot
3:30 would make a nice beat
5:53 sounds like a cute squeaky toy
6:47 cute hoots
7:12 soft cute beeps
9:06 sounds like a cute puppy trying to yip
Northern Pygmy Owl, the cuddliest lookin' bird
Started playing this on my phone and accidentally sent my cat and dog on high alert! 😅😅😂😂
The barred owl made me laugh deadass
It kinda sounded cute tho
Like a little old man deciding what tea he should drink this morning
Who drinks the tea? Who drinks the teeeeaa!
Haha you should write stories. Loved that comparison.
We used to hear this at 2-3 in the morning while fishing in the middle of nowhere. It was one of those things that, even though we knew what it was we were still a little freaked out.
and they love to argue with each other too. they always wake me up in the middle of the night screaming at each other since they like to roost in the pine trees near my house.
@@Gala-yp8nx most likely a couple (male/female) caterwauling.. have two that nest in a pecan tree in my backyard. Love their hoots and cackle.. fun fact: they pair for life.
There’s a family of barred owls on my property that sneak up and hoot back and forth with me sometimes. There’s some videos on my channel. I’m making a nest box for them now 🦉
I love the elk bugle in the background of the great horned! Nature is gorgeous
7:12 sounds like my car trying to prevent me from backing into something.
Why are screech owls the cutest thing in existence?!
Nevermind a lot of these guys are cute
It's the oversized heads and big round eyes
@Ofelia Gurdian The cutest owl in the world in my opinion.
@@michaelmichaelson2014 so adorable
Agreed! Long eared owls are my favorite of these bunch though 💖
I just heard a great horned owl while in my living room. It was such a highlight to my week of having quarantine/isolate. Little things just make you so happy.
i was high asf and started loving owls for some reason
Other owls: make assorted soft sounds.
Barn owl: *INHALE*, 10:37
@FreeThinking TruthSeeker sounds like you need to get the stick out of your ass friendo
@FreeThinking TruthSeeker Ok boomer. Do you actually find away to attack people by your format or are you to stupid to make any other statement.
@FreeThinking TruthSeeker 3 weeks have pass and the only Dumb ass here is you. Go be a try hard keyboard warrior somewhere else.. but here in irl you would get your ass kick pussy.
@FreeThinking TruthSeeker well I'm not a kid.have not been a kid in a very long time . But hey I can spot a bully man child. Face the fact that you are the only kid here if you use bully tactics to target random people.
@FreeThinking TruthSeeker ok boomer
Flammulated owl could be sampled for a hip hop beat
Yep😂
Bra I WAS JUST SNAPPIN TO THAT SHIT😂😂 like "AYEEEE"
It has really good flow lmao
Honestly? I thought the same thing, but more "hip hop". That's a very rhythmic hoot it's got.
LMAOOO i was looking for this comment
But imagine hearing that last great grey owl call in the middle of the night o-o
It's nightmarish
Again...here is the banshhee barn owl scream
The Great Grey Owl looks truly wise. Thank you for this magnificent compilation. So much variety!
You're very welcome. Many thanks for commenting!
It has such a creepy noise though o_O
Barred owls sound so incredible. All owls are amazing and 90% of them make very relaxing sounds if you know what they are... 4am in deep woods alone might be a little less relaxing though, lol... but they are amazing creatures.
Yeah I think the “laughing” caterwauling call that they do would be creepy as hell to hear alone in the woods X)
I've grown up hearing barred owls at night, especially early in the fall season! There's some in the forest by my dorm, and I always look forward to hearing them every fall.
Yeah I heard an Eastern screech owl call when I was up in Minnesota while camping, it was 4 in the morning if I remember right...
@@spitspider41 i live in florida, very populated here, but i live near a park and have insomnia, but i hear the owls as well as traffic here. . crazy...all hours of the night 830 pm. and gators too. all hours up till 5, 6 a.m. ( my natural bedtime) if i dont take my sleeping pills
@@Ash-yu1yj I'm suprised owls stay due to all the noise
The Great Grey could pass for a Silver Backed Gorilla! So awesome
I love owls. Amazing animal. I put the wooden ones in my christmas tree.
2:24
Me laughing because I’m thinking of birb memes I saw earlier.
I'd just like to say that, when walking through the woods at night, hearing a chorus of Barred owls suddenly chanting all around you is absolutely terrifying. (the call at 0:15 to be precise)
I had a nightmare about that.
oh, dude tell me about it! i was outside prolly bout 10yrs ago, smokin a cigarette at like 3am- so it's like just me and tha cats awake at this point- well 1 cat rather, tha other, meh.....when outta no where i hear one- super close tho, so it startled me- not gonna lie..ok, the he got a call back- not as close as he was, but still a bit closer than i have ever been to owls calling in the night, right. but i'm smokin and have abouta half a cigarette left-tha cat's ass has bounced of course but whatevs ima finish...well then, i shit you not- all of a sudden it sounded like i was in the freakin jungle with a pack of daggum howler monkeys er somethin- it sounded like there were about 6 in my estimation at different points in tha forest surrounding the house at various distances, but all relatively close- and a lot of that staccato- ah ah ah ah.....holey moley y'all- i dropt that cig and dasht inside grabbed my bf's bro- he was up gaming actually- told him tha happs and he grabbed some fancy mic and ran back outside w/ me to try and capture tha monkey owls, as i was calling them at tha time...whew- they raised his hackles too...i've never heard anything like that again,(thankfully?) though it was very intriguing and i wish ida had my camcorder and its nightvision function, argh, but the memory will do ;) as for the sound recording, well, me n homeboy are no longer ummm, communicado, sooooo, yeah....boy, that took a lot longer to tell than i thot it wood...saaahreee and peace be with you friend- have a wonderful day, or night or how bout just have a wonderful time- since i have no idea when u'll see this🪶🙀😳😅😉
7:45 Nice try but that's a kitten
It sounds like a tiger cub
Dude I have a barn owl in my back yard apparently that just screams once but really loudly to the point it wakes you up and freaks you out!
Owls are such incredible creatures, it always surprises me how silent they are when they fly and how every call is different.
These are so high quality, thank you!
Many thanks! And you're welcome
@@birdkind Yes I agree. .high quality. .. thank you ...
@@birdkind This video came on via autoplay and I thought the sounds were coming from out my window :O sounds like its right there!
The short-eared owl sounds like a screaming cat.
The Great Grey Owl literally looks like a Grand ascended master from another realm with the key to the forbidden Galaxy of Wisdom.
Owls, love 'em! Great video!
Many thanks!
I've heard eastern screech owls my entire life and had no idea. I'm learning so much!
Saw/heard one this morning!
A friend of mine saved a baby screech owl from a cat. Fed it for a few weeks. Let it go and it came back to her house. She's gonna feed it till it's full grown then release it. The momma owl has been hanging around their house for a few weeks before the baby showed up. They are the coolest birds with an eerie lonesome call just at twilight every night. I hear them all the time here in southwest Mississippi. Rarely see them.
I don’t think that’s a good idea. Even if the owl doesn’t imprint on her, it may not know how to hunt for itself.
Raptors are federally protected. Having one could be a big no-no. Best to contact Fish and Wildlife in your area if it needs help.
All other owls: Hoo. Hoo. Hoo.
Barn owl: And now for something completely different!
I actually think the Barred Owl sounds the scariest lol especially that haunting scream at the beginning. Then the Great Grey Owl is pretty creepy too. I think if I heard a Barn Owl screaming at night I’d be really unsettled but the other two have a very creepy “song”. My sister and I think that the Barred Owl sometimes sounds like it’s mimicking the calls of other animals such as coyotes, and even humans at times.
I heard a barred owl at night in my apartment, and I was terrified for a few minutes because it sounded like humans mimicking bird noises back and forth to each other which made my blood run cold. But it was just a barred owl or two singing their little trilling song.
i agree, a pair of barred owls have come into my neighborhood last week and i was lying in bed eyes wide open and all scared as hell
@@hallezebrowskiI went to my friend’s house out in the country last fall and we were having a bonfire, I could hear them calling in the distance and then later when I came back outside to get something from my car, one let out a wailing scream just like the one in this video. I ran back in the house SO fast, my heart was pounding
me: wow this is really relaxing imma take a nap to this
barn owl: *screm*
me: I CAN FEEL HIS BLADE!!!!
Someone's been reading way too many Guardians of Ga'Hoole books.

Northern saw whet owls sound like the check out line at the grocery store
World Embassy I joined some people working to band northern saw whet owls one night and that are so tiny and adorable! They’re about the size of a soda can.
Either that or a submarine
We’ve got great horned owls and barred owls down here, they scream as loud as they can at 2:00 am and wake me up
Northern pygmy owls say "beep"
There was a family of eastern screech owls where I used to live. They were so beautiful to listen to, and they would all hang out on a big tree branch right next maybe 30 feet away. There wing span is unbelievable for their little size.
I heard/saw one this morning!
Amazing little owls just love their songs. A fledgling barn owl sounds like a little kid just flipping out like they are getting hurt.
The pygmy owls are making me cryyyyy they're so damn CUTE
Love the dear Spotted Owl! dear spots that are so endangered by logging forests...
