  • Perhaps you've taken a probiotic and it's made you feel MORE bloated, gassy, or unwell. Maybe it even feels like it's flared up your IBS, SIBO, or IBD! Is it die-off? Did it "feed" your SIBO? Is it a "bad" product? We'll take a deep dive into this topic in today's video!

From personal experience, sensitiive people need to titrate or reduce the quantity to not have an over reaction. I would recommend to someone that reacts strongly, to open the capsule and start with a trace amount and then work up until symptoms are too strong. Then increase 1 or 2 times a week. Even small quantities can be very beneficial for someone with a severely damaged gut.
Thx for sharing, your videos are very informative and give a new perspective.

This was a "light bulb moment" for me! Thank you. I was recently diagnosed with SIBO, however, I have no overt symptoms. In fact, my GI system had been feeling quite good for many years. I was taking S. boulardii with no problem. Then my new NP prescribed a lacto-/bifido- probiotic and everything changed suddenly. I had every SIBO symptom. I gave it 4 days, thinking my body needed to "adjust", then reported back to my NP, who told me to stop it immediately. I finally got back to my old self after 10 days off it and really don't know what to do next, but at least I have a good understanding now of why that happened.

For my body, I can attest to the truth of what was shared. After a COVID infection my already compromised digestive system became a lot worse. I started taking a probiotic and gradually titrated up how many times a week I took it. Started with 1day/week…then every other day. I’ve been doing this for about a month and my body is still adjusting, immune and gastro. The PB is good for me but I feel it takes time to adjust pending the complexity of where one is at. It’s totally rewiring your entire body. This is teaching me patience 😊

Great info here. I vote for #3 die-off reaction. You can also use a taper-in procedure by taking smaller doses and increasing gradually to lessen the die-off symptoms. You can crack open a capsule and start with 1/4 dose in apple sauce and gradually increase it. A die off reaction is an indication that the good bacteria is doing the job and the benefits are just around the corner as you increase the dosage.
After a strong die-off reaction of bad muscle aches and flu-like symptoms, I shifted to a taper-in dosage. To help the body rid the toxins, zeolite, ACV and a hot bath with Epsom salts and a pinch of Boraxo in the hot bath draws out lots of crud through your pores.

Multi-strain probiotics taken on an empty stomach give me silent reflux symptoms almost immediately. Noticed after weeks of dosing, so probably not a die-off symptom. Lacto-fermented food and beverages cause the same symptoms. So much for trying to add the good guys.

Hey. Something I thought you would mention in the video but did't: Are probiotics manufactures bound by a recipe? eg. Company 'A' has probotics brand 'A bland', and every time you buy 'A bland' it is the same type of probiotics inside that container?
I was prescribed a daily dosage, and things were well for a couple of months, but now I think they are causing me real digestive issues. You didn't mention if someone can become intolerant after prolonged use.
If you have a video that addresses my questions, could you please link it?

@@hjkhjk3829 Everyone reacts differently and some people feel no differently when taking large doses of probiotics....but I was a mess....main symptoms were brain fog and depression, iwas confused and feeling very strange, depression was really bad and i also felt jittery and anxious..It was a while ago so I'm not sure if I had a headache...and i doubt i had ocd as i couldn't even think straight let alone do things over and over. I'm on antidepressants(150mg effexor) so the probiotics probably interacted with them....If you feel strange just stop taking them that's the only advice I can give you ....🙂

Thanks for your videos. I really enjoy them, and I learn a lot. You're so funny the way you explain things.🥰 I have a request and a question. Could you please number your videos, like, #1, #2 ect.... I have a really hard time to find which video comes first or after. It would be easier if one could follow a sequence., from beginning to the end.....Then, my question is, when you talk about feeling worse after taking probiotics, can you please elaborate on that "feeling worse" . For example, when I take probiotics I get an amazing amount of gas/flatulence and more of +++++ gas. I find that you never really talk about gas, which is a major problem for me. Sometimes the gas starts after dinner and goes on non-stop for the next 6 hours until I fall asleep. Did you ever have this symptom in your patients and what is the cause of reason for this? Is it Sibo, or a dysbiosis, or microbial infection, or something else? I would love to have a video on that, so I could understand a bit more. I am not in the USA and so, it is really hard to get any diagnoses or help regarding this issue. I tried everything and can't figure out what it is, or what to do about it. Going on a fodmap diet didn't do anything. Thanks for all the effort you put into your videos.

Hi Dr. DiNezza, thank you for this info. I'm really struggling. I had tested positive for SIBO a few years back. I felt much better after antibiotic treatment. My main symptom is excessive belching and bloating to the point that I'm short of breath. It seems to be happening every time I eat now and the bloating/belching lasts for several hours. I've currently stopped eating solid food (will do for 3 days) to let my digestive system rest. I also just started Florastor. I had one dose and about 18 hours later diarrhea. Is that a sign of die-off? Is there anything else I can do? My gastro docs haven't been able to figure this out. I also suffer from serious acid reflux. Take famotadine 2x per day. I've had 2 schatzski ring stretches. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have low acid stomach. Hypochlorhydria. That's why you can't digest your food and you're bloated. That's why you have acid reflux. The gasses from the undigested food are coming up your esophagus. You need to consider betaine hydrochloride, a delivery form of hydrochloric acid. Maybe some water with some apple cider vinegar. Also water with high-quality sea salt. See a natural nutritionist. Taking antacids only ruin your stomach even more and decrease your stomach's ability to produce hydrochloric acid.

How do I get these raw pro, pre biotics out of my system? I was taking raw pro and pre biotics with digestive enzymes for about 2 weeks. My acid reflux is gone however I had diarrhea and lightheadedness. The lightheadedness is scary. I stopped taking almost 1 week ago and still have the intermittent lightheadedness. Please any advice to rid these from my system would be greatly appreciated, its a horrible feeling, I would rather have the reflux then this weird head feeling. Thank you.

@@legreez13probiotics are a natural remedy? They’ve all come from natural source. For example a product ‘florastor’ was discovered by a guy observing fermenting lychee berry and culturing the yeast contained to find beneficial yeast saccaromyces boulardii, which btw is very helpful for most people. Problem is probiotics are very individualized. Don’t take a multi strain, find ONE single probiotic that works for you. For me its Florastor and Align/Bifido longum.
