    Fact is - going all the way back to the Syd days - Roger Waters was a control freak - Barrett was writing the songs - but Waters was controlling many other aspects of the band's business - and when Waters finally became a great songwriter on his own - his ego blew up and then you had an ego maniac combined with a control freak - that was bound to put off the other guys in the band eventually ..

      That being said, it WAS Waters who always was the driving force behind Pink Floyd to keep recording, whereas the others seemed to be lacking a decent work ethic. Waters did most of the work on The Wall and The Final Cut and the others just did the absolute minimum. It was this dynamic that made Waters believe Pink Floyd was over and he quit the band, only to see to his astonishment that the others almost immediately sprang into life and started making music again. It must have felt like a knife in the back to Waters and I can't help but wonder if three middle-aged men couldn't have solved their conflict with Waters better.

    Pink Floyd should have probably called it day after Animals and certainly after The Wall or at least Roger should have left, perhaps if they had, and gone away for a few years to do their own thing they might have been able to get back together later on to do the odd tour or even record the odd album. In my opinion once relationships start to sour and breakdown its far better to bail out before the bitterness and loathing really kicks in.
    Personally most of Rogers solo stuff does nothing for me and Pink Floyds stuff without Roger is, with the exception of High Hopes, one of my all time favourite tracks, and one or two others, ok but nothing special. They were far better as a unit. That is just my opinion of course, I don't claim to speak with any authority on this.

      Gilmour needs everyone to perceive Waters as a lunatic villain so he can never be seen as a member of the true Pink Floyd. There are many fans who believe Pink Floyd is not Pink Floyd without Waters. Gilmour did a couple charity appearances with the original members but he would never agree to a reunion tour even for charity. People would invalidate the post-Waters material.

    The Wall Tour: ironically, the tour was too expensive and the band didn't really earn any money. Richard Wright, however, as a "hired Keyboard player" got paid as per contract. So at the end he was the only one who earned money on tour.

    • @SM-bm6jo
      @SM-bm6jo ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      There was no "Wall Tour" They performed 31 shows in only four cities. The problem was getting the stage and stage hands from venue to venue. Everyone except Waters wanted to streamline the show and take it on the road. But Waters was too attached to the theme of musician isolated from his audience. It would contradict The Wall's story to add a greatest hits segment and take it on the road like their typical tours. But, true, Wright was the only one to make money while everyone else lost money.

    • @SM-bm6jo
      @SM-bm6jo ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Out the gate his first blunder was not recognizing what Pink Floyd had become when he assembled his solo band. Gilmour's vocals and guitar playing were what sold all of their greatest compositions. Second to Gilmour was Waters's lyrics. Lyrics are nothing unless you present them with an appealing voice. Eric Clapton on guitar was one of the worst picks to be his Gilmour, one of the biggest mismatches in Rock history. Give credit to Ozzy Osbourne for knowing he needed someone like Tony Iommi when he chose Randy Rhoads. Imagine Ozzy choosing Eric Clapton.

    For me Roger Waters' burnt the last bridge when he came out actively punting for Putin a few years ago. He even did a podcast with another Putin fan boy & convicted sex offender Scott Ritter. One can't actually sink any lower!.

    Roger Waters is a fucking genius..Without him you don't have that amazing body of work. The Wall is a fucking masterpiece .. yes they all were irreplaceable parts of the music but it was water's unyielding grip that made it happen. Whatever the aftermath that body of work is testament to greatness. And when he left Pink Floyd was no more. And none of them ,himself included, could ever recreate that kind of genius again. Unfortunate situation but because of him they are all wealthy beyond their wildest dreams

      Way back in the day, Roger couldn't even tune his bass, Rick Wright used to do it for him. Dave Gilmour did play bass on some recordings apparently, especially if it was one of his own songs, but I don't think that was so much Roger couldn't play it, more that he didn't want to. Apparently they both played bass on One of These Days
      He certainly played the bass live on the two occasions I saw them in the seventies.
      Dave and Rick were the musicians, Roger has said himself that he always considered the lyrics to be more important than the music.

    For all his faults, Waters was an integral part of the band. And while the band continued to record, the music was a shadow of the signature sound.
    The Wall was a deeply personal album for Waters. I joked that afterwards, "Waters could not get over the Wall."
    The last album sadly was proof.
