John Oates was the business man in the partnership. He was the one managing all the stuff while Daryl was the better songwriter and singer. Hall could take all that time off and leave it to Oates. Hall could worry about the future while John is weighed down taking care of the last five decades. Oates got tired. He couldn’t do it, anymore. Either he hands it over to someone else or it all collapses. Hence why there is never any discussion of Daryl stepping up to help John out.

I enjoyed growing up with these guys and so many great tunes. They upped the quality of pop in general. However getting paid on your copyrights is less and less reliable and verifiable with today's formats. It's similar to what 1800's songwriter Stephen Foster experienced with player piano companies pasting his tunes on the rolls without paying him. Oates is smart to cash out in his later years, free to invest in more solid things.

Oats has found a good home in Nashville. I was a fan from early in their career. As a hardcore Rundgren fan, the War Babies album was on heavy rotation in my youth. I saw them at the Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh as they were blowing up and Hall was to this day one of the best vocalists I have ever seen. They produced some great music and I will choose to concentrate on the beautiful things they created and not the animosities that usually develop in all endeavors where humans interact with each other

Daryl Hall was the lead singer and main songwriter. John Oates is nobody. The truth hurts.

I think Ono was a substantial factor in the break up of the Beatles. The video cites the difficulty with the manager but that could have been solved as other bands sorted their problems with their manager. It was also cited that McCartney and Lennon were going in different directions musically. However, their music was different. Pauls music was light and optimistic, Johns was darker and about loss. Paul was successful with the woman but John's was more fraught with disappointment. Just listen to their lyrics. It was the contrast that made the Beatles what they were: together they were greater than the sum total of their parts. Paul, right after the Beatles went on to record McCartney and Ram, John recorded Imagine and The Plastic Ono Band. McCartney was a stripped down version of what he had done with the Beatles and Ram was a more fuller sounding album. They were both ok albums but lacked the touch of the other 3's influence. Ive just listened to the 2 albums of John's that i mention and they suffer more the lack of the other 3's influence more than Paul's do. In fact if Lennon hadnt been part of the Beatles i think his albums wouldnt have got much notice. They are naive, childish in lyrics, depressing and complaining. Furthermore, only John could have gotten away with writing the daft song, Imagine. So, do i feel Yoko had a big hand in the Beatles breakup? I feel she was the biggest factor. Watching the various documentaries of those final month you can see that none of the other members liked Yoko. She seemed to be an uncomfortable presence in the studio. The way the others talked about her was telling. It was like she wanted to get involved as part of the band, but she knew nothing about music other than screaming...not a great talent. The others didnt want her there but they, knowing Johns attitude, were fearful that John would walk out on the band as it was looking like John put Yoko before the band. His attitude was obvious when he kept the band waiting every morning for his and Yoko's arrival. Watching the documentaries, i was even pissed off with her and im sure the other Beatles partners were not too happy with her being in the studio while they were at home or pursuing an interest. It never looked like any of the other Beatles or the production staff had much of a relationship with Ono so it must have been awkward them trying to work around her. Unfortunately, John was too insecure and wanted to keep Ono by his side at all times. Not so with the band as you could see Johns disinterest being shown at various times and messing around when the band were trying to create, was disrespectful. So, Yono was the straw that broke the camals back and she inherited virtually all of John's wealth to boot. Avant Garde she wasnt. It takes no talent to scream, have a terrible singing voice and it is not innovative. John should have stuck to Synthia.

Why is the woman always the VICTIM...has anybody ever heard his side of the story...??? John valued his privacy and I heard numerous times (that's more than once btw), that Linda Evans wasn't easy to get along with...so wake up and smell the coffee. She wasn't kept captive by any means, and she was free to leave the relationship/marriage, so why make him out to be such a bad guy. Neither of them had much talent as actors, but both were attractive/handsome/good looking etc, but that's a bit difficult to keep hanging onto and monetize unless you're like a Rachel Welsh who had zero acting talent as well, but she had the looks...And more to the point...have all you losers ever wondered why you even care about people you don't know, have ever met or will ever meet in real life...or do you simply live through these so-called 'famous' people because of the emptyness inside yourselves...People are people, and most of the people you waste all your energy on and put up on pedestals, are extremely unhappy and insecure in their private lives; they're happy when in the spotlight portraying different characters, but as soon as they're back home and having to be themself once again, life is often hellish for them (trust me on this one). They're not Gods or anyone to look up to, unless of course you have completely given up in life. So get a life...your own life...one with some sort of meaning and purpose...Cheers

Both of them are very talented. John has put out some amazing music since they split up. His music is very different from what Hall and Oates did. This could be both of their stories.

I Recently attended a Darryl Hall concert he sounded great after all these years. I also saw Hall & Oates back in the early days before they ever achieved massive success. I think I preferred the earlier struggling musicians more than seeing Darryl Hall performing with his backup band performing the hits from the past.
